Russian Invasion of Ukraine

Russia boycotted hearings at the UN's highest court on Monday during which Ukraine is seeking an emergency order to halt hostilities, arguing that Moscow has falsely applied genocide law in justifying its invasion.

The hearings were held at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands, without legal representation for Russia.

"The fact that Russia's seats are empty speaks loudly. They are not here in this court of law: they are on a battlefield waging an aggressive war against my country," Ukrainian envoy Anton Korynevych said.

Well that's ****ed move Microsoft - they lock their games for Russians in Steam. Even if you bought them.

I came across an interesting stat that shows just how impossible it will be for Russia to hold Ukraine even if it wins the war,

One of the highest ratios of troops to populations recorded for a counter insurgency action was the British Army in Northern Ireland, that peaked at a ration of 2:100, so 2 soldiers for every 100 heads of population. A ratio that still resulted in failure to contain violence.

Ukraine has a population of 44 million people, which would require a force of 880k troops, which I believe is about 80% of the entire Russian Army!
I think they're trying that other way to make the ratio more favorable. :scared:

"We started a war in Ukraine to prevent a war possibly starting in Ukraine" 🤡

So conclusion:
1) aviation is dead. We still have military, cargo and light passenger, but medium and heavy passenger aviation will be completely dead ~ 6 months.
2) auto industry is dead. Currently we can produce UAZ Hunter, Niva, GAZ and Kamaz. All other brands, except ****y china soap box are out. Spare parts also mostly not available.
3) IT is doomed, banking is doomed, science is doomed, space is doomed. Weapon production is dead.
4) Light production could work for local market, heavy will be dead.
5) since April there will be BIG problem with unemployment.
6) Medicine is dead.
7) cinemas are dead

The last avenue out of this for Putin, without significant escalation or a protracted and politically doomed occupation is for him to have a GWB-style "Mission Accomplished" statement, proclaiming the Ukrainian military has been "incapacitated" and no longer a "threat." At this point the Russian military will disengage and go back to Russia. I seriously doubt this is what Putin intended to accomplish, but I don't see a better option for him. There would probably be some recognition of Crimea and Donbas as Russian territory, even if it's not formal.

I would guess that within a week we will know if Putin intends to de-escalate or escalate further. I really hope it's the former.

There's some high grade brain washing going on in Russia.
I didn't realize that the Z symbol was anything more than invasion markings. Yikes.

Does anyone know if the Z has some sort of iconographic meaning? It's not a Cyrillic letter, IIRC.

Supposedly it stands for "for the victory", which in Russian is за победу and when romanized is za pobedu.

Wikipedia has a little bit of info regarding it:

I'm sure those children were just doing what they were told. But the Z as as much of a designator as it is a statement. Like an allied stripe <. Wouldn't want to shoot at your own guy especially on account that a lot of Ukraine's equipment is Russian. It's a visual designator like an IFF challenge on an aircraft. Like an American flag patch on the shoulder of an Army uniform. Those glow under night vision so you don't shoot someone on your team.

Yeap. At least they open some humanitarian channels for Ukrainians.
Latest BBC about it :

Human Escape Corridor is Open.. He said.
There will be No shelling, I promise.. but only of you will escape into...
Russia..
This guy really have some balls. :)

Increased shelling into cities, as we speak. Foreign heavy weapons flooding in, the defense against the Invasion.
Negotiations on all levels leading nowhere ATM.

My GT 7 disc finally arrived in Moscow.
My friend is very happy now.
I will have to wait for my award.
No Card payment in Moscow anymore,
and no Prada. He's girlfriend is furious about that.

If they go through with the Internet isolation, you probably won't be racing against him.

That's the second one. Russian superpower status is disintegrating right before our eyes. It will be a failure of a state with nuclear weapons in no time, if they keep this tempo.

Not excusing RF generals incompetency, but I don't think any army in the world could do better in that situation. Siege of city's was always a mess, especially if defenders are regular army with 8 years of combat experience and great combat moral.

If the reports are anything to go by that many troops didn't know until last minute they were going to war, or that some are still under the assumption this was something else, at least a more justified fatality of this war will be a high-ranking official who knew full well, weeks in advance, what they were dragging everyone into.

Songs... When civilians being killed...
Latest BBC : R troops discised as ambulance drivers with Ukranian badges visible, is walking into cities, trying to wreak chaos among civilians...

That's why the huge army convoy is stuck for 4 days outside Kiev. Heavy resistance, encountered.

Remember, that anti-air Stingers is carried on shoulders, through open borders onto the Hot-Spots to establish a No-Fly...

It's almost like invading another country is bad and there are repercussions for doing so...

Russians knew they had to finish off the war in days with blitzkreig and shock and awe attacks which all largely failed now they are bogged down.

They really believed their attacks would lead to Ukraine surrendering. Either the Russian underestimated the Ukrainians or they have largely failed in doing a shock and awe attack. They thought they could replicate the Americans.

Lets not forget the reforms and modernisation of the Russian armed forces. So this war in Ukraine was their first test in fighting a conventional war against another country.

Instead it seems the Russians have half assed their reforms as they still fight with a cold war mentality. Russians only have a small inventory of precision guided bombs. Thats why you see their jets flying low because they are using unguided dumb bombs. Their jets and their helicopters are falling prey to manpads and low altitude air defence systems.

Russians have failed now they are bogged down in a fight that could last for weeks if not months.

Nobody denies the Ukrainians took heavy casualties also have their lands occupied I think they surprised everybody as many experts believed they were going to surrender just like what happened with Crimea.

The Ukrainian armed forces is outnumbered and outgunned in nearly everything.

If Russia fought a war against NATO this convoy would have easily been destroyed with drones and a10s.

Russians once again repeating mistakes. They are wasting and expending resources and supplies.

There are comments from Ukraine with thanks to musicians for that song, like from bombshelters. Keep in mind that we share one cultural space. Russians love Океа́н Е́льзи, Ivan Dorn and 5nizza. Ukrainians love Bi2, Noize Mc and Oxxximiron. Culture is one of the ways to told people that killing each other isnt an option.

Like I said before - anything to stop this mess. Its very strange feeling when you are happy that another economic bomb fallen at your country and, in some way, at you. Like I said before, Russians should wake up and start think for themselves. Its our boys die at this war without reason. Its our neighbors and family members in Ukraine suffer. If only way to wake up for my country is through suffer of economical shock - do it.

Zelenskiy is ready to discuss status of DPR/LPR and Crimea.

If you ask me, Ukraine could deal with Crimea in RF(there isn't any realistic way to get it back anyway, even with different RF leader) and give Donetsk/Lugansk some kind of autonomy inside Ukraine. Plus moratorium for participation in NATO for 10(?) years(again its cant be done in foreseeable future anyway). Not optimal, but at least, this could stop war.

What's the terms here? Is Zelensky going to officially recognize them as part of Russia or something? I thought Russia basically controlled them anyway.
