Russian Invasion of Ukraine

It's actually all right and legitimate. And there are all well explained and legal too. Simply there is nothing to justify Act of invasion is fully legal too.

"The Russian Federation has the right to place in the Crimea 25 thousand military in the framework of the agreement on black sea fleet"

No one is disputing that 25,000 military personnel can be placed in Crimea by Russia, that's been mentioned a lot.

I think people are concerned that what you're presenting as 'fact' is the Russian State TV line, which is pretty innacurate. Somebody who was just watching CNN and Faux News got the same short shrift; check out a wider balance of reporting (if it's available from where you are) and weigh up the facts a bit more.

What you say isn't literally wrong but the balance of fact and opinion presents the overall picture very differently :)

Well, this (quote below) is literally wrong.

As I might have said before, unmarked military personnel blocking the Ukraininan army and taking over crucial infrastructure is against any and all laws. And I've also said a bunch of other stuff including things about the media and this and that, so I just don't wanna repeat myself.

Also, the last sentence in that quote just doesn't make any sense.

Kerry and Lavrov, Obama and Putin, they have been talking extensively, hours on end. They seem to agreed on everything except for one key point:

The West and EU says the revolutionary junta in Kiev is legitimate, and Russia says it is not. Impasse! Obama is boxed in at the moment. With the clock ticking on the snap Crimean referendum, the pressure is on.

What so bad with this? Is there a war like in Kiev? Or Russian troops forcing someone doing something? No it's a great reunion that both sides are dreaming of. Fact that it can lead to division in Ukraine were only matter of time. Crimea was always, historically Russian, and their people are pro-russian. No problem here.

Its maydans who started this, then forced all pro-russian people to unite and search for the protection. Of course people of Crimea know what happened in Kiev and don't want same on their homeland. Again Ukrainian and Russians are same people - Ukrainian better unite with Russian than join pro-west "democracy" that we all tired for last years.

I have friends in Kiev, and they say there's nothing like "Bandera fascists eating Russian-speaking children" as our Zombie-TV says.
Man, don't be a vatnik. Put those noodles off your ears.

Actually they're blocking Ukrainian troops from their legal activity.

Crimea was always, historically Russian, and their people are pro-russian. No problem here.
Half of Ukraine was always, historically Russian. Or Polish, or Romanian.
And Alaska was historically Russian until 1867. So what? Should we demand it back from the US?

Have you seen the freighter that Russia sunk near the city of Novoozerne to block some of Ukraine's navy vessels?

I think the Russian Navy has also set up a blockade near some other Ukrainian warships in Sevastopol.

What is the purpose of the blockade's?

To eventually seize the Ukrainian warships?

I respect your right to your view, I'd like to think that it is your view and not just the view of a single favourite state news channel ;)

The balance of information and opinion across the wider world seems very different, that's why I'm asking.

Cool, what's a vatnik? :)

@SMfan , I was trying diplomacy... I'd translated his sentences into what I thought he meant... it was hard to do :D

Vatnik ("Cotton wool jacket") is a collective image of a stupid Russian patriot (whose patriotism is just absurd and preposterous). It's a Russian local meme.

This is why:

To keep the Ukrainian ships from getting out, and anybody else from getting in.

CNN) -- All the self-righteous huffing and puffing in Washington over Ukraine jars on European and especially Russian ears after the multiple U.S.-led invasions and interventions in other people's countries of recent years. It's difficult to say what is more astonishing: the double standards exhibited by the White House, or the apparent total lack of self-awareness of U.S. officials.
Secretary of State John Kerry risked utter ridicule when he declared it unacceptable to invade another country on a "completely trumped-up pretext," or just because you don't like its current leadership. Iraq in 2003 springs instantly to mind. This is exactly what George W. Bush and Tony Blair did when they "trumped up" the supposed threat posed by the hated Saddam Hussein's fabled weapons of mass destruction.

I don't think ths US politicians can handle a situation like this, at the moment.
Obama dives into the Arab spring and republicans call war mongerer.

Obama keeps it at sanctions for Russia and he is called a coward, a bunny, weak etc etc.

And let's not talk about the EU, what a bunch of silly nannies.
The current set of sanctions are called very firm actions... :indiff:

I know it is a difficult situation, but this isn't helping anyone.

I heard at work that there's about to be a nuclear war over this issue... a Google search turned up an interesting (as in sketchy) collection of news sites seeming to back that up. What's going on here?

Seems a bit over the top for people to be chucking around nuclear weapons over this issue. All I've seen (or rather read) is that Russia test fired an ICBM and that's it.

Nothing that can really lead to WW3. Vietnam didn't, Afghanistan didn't and even the Cuban crisis ended peacefully. What's going on now is just another geopolitical conflict - Putin is trying to compensate the influence lost in Ukraine by taking Crimea away, telling everyone "this is for safety of our people".
Let's hope he stops on Crimea and won't touch the Ukrainian revolution like Khrushchev did in Hungary.

The Topol test was planned before the crisis, and the Pentagon was warned about it.

What I'm hearing is, after I heard the "nuclear war" story at work, I did some Googling and found a couple sites (an Iranian news site and what might be a conspiracy site, but I'm not sure) stating that U.S. satillites had spotted Russia loading up like 30 aircraft (of the munitions-dropping type, not the munitions-firing type) at a nuclear weapons storage facility.

And you're right, that's a lot of firepower to be deploying over something like this. I wonder if they aren't intended for us in the event that we try to get in the way of Russian involvement - in fact I think that might have been the assumption in one of the articles...

A quick BBC News search didn't show anything of the sort, so maybe the stories you were hearing aren't true or BBC have some research to do ;).

Like you say, one of the sites you looked at may have been a conspiracy theory website, which as we all know doesn't really count for much. With regards to the Iranian site you visited, I'm not really too sure what the credibility of the Iranian media is like, so I can't comment on that. And if Russia were setting up for Nuclear strikes, I think we would be hearing a lot about it 👍

It just seems a bit rash to be jumping to using nuclear weapon's, especially as no actual combat is really taking place at the moment, just an exchange of words. Should the claims about loading aircraft with ammunition be true, it could just be a case of preparing for an event, rather than leaving it to the last minute. Also, I noticed you said that these aircraft were being loaded up at a nuclear weapons storage facility, but there is still the possibility that the planes are just being loaded with conventional ammunition. I'm sure that normal bombs and stuff can be kept at these facilities in addition to a nuclear arsenal 👍.

@SMfan , I was trying diplomacy... I'd translated his sentences into what I thought he meant... it was hard to do :D
Yeah, sometimes it's just not worth explaining.
I mean, if like one of my friends was brainwashed, i woulda spent time to explain the situation from the ground up to them. But that's cause I really care about my friends.
That guy is clearly under influence of some... beliefs and it just seems too hard of a job to break that influence.

About the "nuclear threat" - No. Just no. I hate explaining obvious things, so that's it.

Or, it was a pre-planned military maneouver that has nothing to do with Crimea.

That's how it looks, certainly the US say it was a scheduled test and that they were notified in advance as per treaty.

I think it's more likely that the launch was timed to sit between the two Olympics at Sochi, it's just a bonus for Putin that he managed to get a quick war in before the tiger photographs.

Interesting article on BBC Trending, certainly looks like it could be the same woman!

Hehehe, BBC is slooowwww.:D
That was spotted a week or so ago.
Yeah, the Russian propaganda machine works in the simplest and dumbest of ways.

Haha, they're reporting now that the Tsar's whereabouts are unknown :\ :)

That site aggregates news from the web, they might have already had it somewhere else but I didn't see it. Looking at the woman I think I saw her in a clip arguing with another woman in a marketplace... although angry old woman in headscarfs do look mostly alike.

Perhaps I shoulda explained better - that was spotted in the Ukrainian/Russian social media back then. Obviously, it took some time for it to be picked up by BBC.:)
I was just joking around there.:D

I think at least 4 of the 5 women are the same one.
