The main thing is these countries (and more) are trading with Russia, and buying increased amounts of gas, oil and coal in defiance of US and European sanctions. IMHO, the sanctions are hurting ourselves more than they are hurting the Russians. We're shooting ourselves in the foot.

The alternative (lifting the sanctions) is unacceptable. Sure, our economy might suffer a bit, but that’s not the priority.

Russia has claimed both that they targeted a nearby warehouse that was allegedly being used to store foreign supplied weapons, and that the shopping mall (that they actually hit) was empty. Seriously, I truly believe that Russia are deliberately trolling at this point to literally add insult to injury mass murder.

Well, two of them (China and India) we knew a while ago wouldn't do anything. I'd expect more from Brazil and South Africa but that is probably just me being optimistic.

Expecting South Africa - or more correctly, ANC - to condemn Russia for its vile war is a lost cause. A waste of time. Don't even bother. No matter how many phone calls Biden makes to Ramaphosa, it won't change anything. The historical ties between the Soviets and ANC run too deep for that to happen, after all.

Shidapu, you face a tall order explaining why Sweden and Finland would prefer risking actual (Russian) killers invading their country over joining a voluntary, defensive pact with other countries that pose zero threat to their sovereignty, their culture or their people. I first learned what NATO was when I was a boy (just about the eighth grade, if I recall correctly) and yet up until very recently, NATO membership hasn't meant a great deal to the average Joe. 'Dolce et decorum est', perhaps the greatest anti-war poem, sums up my feelings on the need for defensive pacts such as NATO perfectly:

Russia is absolutely imperialist with a vengeance. They think they are are a superpower in a multipolar world. However, the US considers the defense of democracy, freedom and human rights as a global mandate. These values are the very reason we exist - the very essence of American exceptionalism. We are working to create a rules-based unipolar world order. Although currently we are doing a rather poor job of it.
