Russian Invasion of Ukraine

Germany's Chancellor has announced an increase in the annual military budget, to 100 billion Euros. That is more than double what it was last year and almost quadruple what it was before that. He has also vouched to keep it high from here on in the future. Essentially Germany has decided to build a powerful and modern army for the first time since WW2.

Looks like the news is starting to reach Minsk too, as there are reports of protests starting there.

Negotiation confirmed from both sides, border between Ukraine/Belorus.

Putin order is to put Russian nuclear arsenal into combat readiness(ready to launch).

But why? There isnt any better ways to spend money?
Because the "peaceful" Europe that people were used to, is not that peaceful after all? And a crazy leader on a big country can mess up the peace? Because to avoid war, you must be prepared for it? Deterrence?

If Ukraine didn't invest in their defense in recent years, Russia's job would have been a lot easier.

NATO has required that its members spend 2% of their GDP on defense for years now, yet most countries don't bother, with some spending less than 1%. That might change now.

What has this war achieved so far? That the combined force of NATO is something Russia would never want to face.

Is the order now to Ukraine essentially "stop fighting or we will launch nuclear weapons at you"?

Great, correct.
But whose side would you rather come out on top?
One lead by Putin, or one lead by Zelensky?

It's really quite simple.
The West and others have already or might just be thinking, well here is a good time to get rid of Putin, like they did with Saddam.

It's rarely a total success as Iraq proved.
But I'm happy to take that risk to see an end to Putin.
And I'm amazed there are non Russians who feel that Putin is being unfairly treated, in particular people like Tucker Carlson, and in UK Nigel Farage.

I don't like the way the West does things all the time, but i know I dislike Putin more and being English I'll always push come to shove have my countries back.

I think some just like to appear more knowing by taking a contrary view point in the face of what is an utter tyrant and has been for decades.
What? How did you get to that unhinged rant out of what I posted? You're mad that I pointed out that actually everyone wants to arm themselves and disarm their neighbours and that Putin is not unique in this? That it's entirely normal to want to mount offensive weapons on your borders but restrict everyone else from doing the same on theirs?

There's plenty of stuff that demonstrates what a colossal dickbiscuit Putin is without resorting to trivialities. Stuff that's relevant even, like how he attempts to murder anyone who poses the slightest political threat to him. This probably wouldn't be happening if Navalny got elected, but instead here we are because Putin likes smearing weird goo in other mens y-fronts.

You couldn't identify a contrary view if it flew up and tickled your undercroft, you just assume that anyone that doesn't have the same burning desire to strangle Putin and Russians in general is somehow ideologically opposed to you. That's not exactly the case, some of us just aren't psychopaths who want other people dead so that we can dance on their graves.

Clearly, this is by far the most serious escalation, and no, I don't believe that Putin is threatening Ukraine, he is threatening a global nuclear war unless Ukraine surrenders and the rest of the world just shuts up about it.

The man is a mad psychopath.

He became a laughing stock in front of the whole world and now threatens with nuclear weapons.
What a troll.👎
You can't scare me, little bald clown!

Check your facts again, because this is completely incorrect.

Ukrainian has become the official language from 1991 onwards after it was banned pre-91. Before 1991, Russian was mandatory of use in schools and litterature. The Ukrainian language was frowned upon.

Russian is still an official language in Ukraine because about half of the population speak the language.

I have no idea where you get the idea Russian is banned in Ukraine, but it is totally incorrect.
Victimhood--even that which is misplaced--tends to trump reason.

You keep talking like a 4 year old about peace and no to war.
We are beyond that and the big boys and girls are doing what they do.

Putin is flexing about nuclear war now.
The white doves have been blown out of the sky.

Stealing points to make you seem so clean and peaceful is fine.
But i am happy to see the country that was invaded stick it to Putins lot.

Call me a psychopath if you like, not bothered.

No one cares about the people James Bond kills because he is the hero.
Do you watch a James Bond film and think "but that guy was just following orders, he's someone's son."

You do you, i'll do me... thanks.
But i'd not like to have you around in a fight.

Its very simple for me, and it seems most people around the globe.
Putin is wrong in this and peace and love won't stop him, I'm afraid.
However nice it sounds.

To the rest of the world.

Dialogue with Putins polizei at New Arbath in Moscow:

  • Do you understand that you are next going to war?
  • Everyone will be there, shut up or I will take to police van.

Novayagazeta, today

When Macron came back from his last visit to Moscow, just before the agression, an official said to a journalist in the plane that Putin turned paranoiac.

Accepting war is a necessity is one thing, getting your jollies off on it is another. It's sad that your grandpa, who seeming was in WWII grasps this concept but for some reason that message didn't get handed down.

No one cares, BECAUSE IT'S A MOVIE!!!!!

I don't think most people around the globe agree with you, not even in the slightest, if they did Putin would have been bombed to hell by now. Thankfully the rest of the world actually values human lives, unlike you and Putin.

The nuke threat seems like a desperate threat of a failing dictator more than anything. He'd most likely get taken out from inside his own circle if he really tried to.
Still no casualties confirmed by Ministry of Defense. One officer dead - confirmed by Dagestan officials.

There will be BIG wave of protest when mothers of dead soliders will get coffines instead of childrens.

Grow up, putting me in same bracket as Putin. Funny.

I can't believe there are people who are waking up in countries other than Russia.
And their first thought is
"I must go on the internet and stand up against these people clamouring for Russia to be defeated"

To win a War (which Putin has started) those on the enemy side must have to die. FACT.

Had Putin not invaded Ukraine I'd not be posting about wanting to see Russian soldiers getting slaughtered.

As it is, I am now..... and i have no guilt about that at ALL.

Yes i hate Putin, but i never have even given a second thought to his army.

He dragged them there, only he is responsible for their deaths and injuries.
That people like you fail to grasp that is honestly beyond me, just like my opinion is beyond you.

You may get a slight feeling of superiority by virtue signalling you happy clappy flower power nonsense,
same way i am glad my 8 year old little girl is like that.

But reality isn't like that.

Obviously prior to the invasion I was saying "no to war".
But its a bit late for that now....

No point shouting "NO TO WAR!"
As the missiles rain down and the invaders march in.
Simply a time for
"DEATH TO THE INVADERS!"

Smoking weed and saying "peace man" doesn't solve a man like Putin....

Yup and I stand by it. You are very much in the same category as the guy in your avatar.

I very much want Russia to be defeated. Where we differ is I want minimal casualties while you want Russian blood to flow through the streets just like Putin wants Ukrainian blood to flow through the streets. You two are waaaaay more similar than you like to think.

Anyways, I'm done dealing with you, enjoy your life, may it be healthy and long!

Okay, we are all going to die. But maybe, just maybe, not by nuclear war.
NPR is reporting Ukraine and Russia to resume negotiations in Belarus.

They have taken Chernobyl, Snake Island, made a joke of the Russian army, united the western world in a way that has never been seen before and caused tons of NATO forces to be sent to Eastern Europe.
