Russian Invasion of Ukraine

Where’s Ronald Reagan when you need him?
Raising taxes on the poor in hell.

I don't know if you've ever witnessed a bar fight before but attempting to escalate a situation with an enraged person who doesn't give a **** is a very bad idea. They will counter because they don't care what happens. Just because the US can deal with that doesn't mean we should. And besides...we're on the other side of the ocean 💁‍♂️

Is the United States not going to respond to Russia’s nuclear statement? “Try something and prepare for annihilation” would suffice for now. Where’s Ronald Reagan when you need him?
I think that's what he wants, then just broadcast that to the Russians and leave out his bit.

Personally best to say nothing IMO.

Its clear that NATO could squash Putin, we just need to be aware he is deranged and has nuclear.

Would've been a miracle if it made it through. To me, this is the most upsetting part of this whole conflict.

An update on losses. Russia has lost quite a lot of equipment...those fuel tanks hurt.

edit as didn't realise its a Ukrainian plane.

Yes amazing plane, have a nice mod of it in MSFS.

I wouldn't say its the most upsetting thing to happen in this conflict so far though.

Losing Mriya feels like a small blow to the rest of the world. Seen a number of videos about the unique cargo companies around the world used it for.

That's like...12 F-35s lol.
Not really. Countries are buying 30+ F-35 for around $5 billion, and is not just the planes, but the whole package. Russia's defense budget is, supposedly, around 60 billion annualy.

I've seen the 124s come into Columbus a few times but never the 225. It had a unique capacity, literally, being a fair bit bigger than a C-5 also.

You're right, I did some bad math there lol. Good, hopefully they'll buy something other than helmets and actually be able to defend themselves.

There is a second unfinished one that for years has been in need of funding for completion. With the destruction of the original, this might gain higher priority when the war is over.

I'm surprised but not unhappy to see the amount of resistance Ukraine has been able to put up alone, hopefully they can keep it up along with those on the Russian side who refuse to participate.

The nuke threat seems like a desperate threat of a failing dictator more than anything. He'd most likely get taken out from inside his own circle if he really tried to.
That's the one way how to end this quickly, if they get rid of Putin things can be better for everyone.

What does the video say about the nuclear THREAT?
Directly about the defense. And not towards Ukraine, but from the NATO countries.
I don't know what they told you, but NATO is defense alliance. Only way how to make NATO fight is to attack NATO member country.
Russia have nothing to fear, unless your leadership is planning attack on NATO member country.

I also don't know if you noticed but only one bringing up nuclear weapons is Putin, he is making threats, because his blitzkrieg in Ukraine isn't going as expected.

You make monsters out of us, and you read and watch information only from one side. Have you thought about it, maybe they are lying to you?
Russian army invaded another sovereign country (Ukraine) in an attempt to keep their influence over the region, same thing they did in 1968 to Czechoslovakia. Whole thing is strikingly similar, but of course Ukraine is prepared to fight, better equipped and supported by other countries, so it's not going as well as expected for Russia.

Every democratic country from former Eastern Bloc fully support Ukraine and it's not hard to imagine why.

We already send 30,000 pistols, 7,000 assault rifles, 3,000 machine guns, several dozen rifles for snipers and about a million rounds of ammunition and further CZK 400 milion worth of weapons and military equipment was approved to be send today.

And it looks like Germany finally made their mind on SWIFT.

Are/have Ukranian Air Force fighter jets been in the air at all since this all began?
They didn't have many to begin with. Many have conducted sorties already. Some have been destroyed. Currently in the most contested areas it's not safe for any planes to fly from either side because both Ukraine and Russia have moved plenty of AA weaponry into Ukraine. They're both effectively denying the airspace to anybody. Russia tried but failed to take out Ukrainian AA weapons early on, probably due to bad intel and mobile weapons. Depending on how motivated Russia is to continue - if these negotiations result in nothing - then it's going to be an absolute slog.

Interesting you say that just as I scrolled across a Ukrainian tweet claiming they will rebuild it after the war.

Anyway, w/ talk of nukes again, this brings a bit of calm to the reports.

How can you be calm when their range is from "always ready" to "yeah, no, seriously"

There has been some footage of them, like in this post:

(it's not a dogfight like originally thought)

But Russia has more training aircraft than Ukraine has fighters. Soviet doctrine relied on SAM defense more than NATO did and as a result many former Soviet states lean that way in terms of defense. Ukraine's primary air defense is going to be through surface to air missiles. They have some capable systems, including the S-300.

«К сожалению, есть погибшие и раненые наши товарищи. Но наши потери многократно меньше уничтоженных националистов. И потерь среди военнослужащих украинских вооруженных сил», — говорится в заявлении Минобороны (цитата по РИА Новости).
Casualties report from ministry of defence, no numbers.

I thought that America would have sent F-22's over.
Ukraine isn't a NATO country so we've got no obligation to be directly involved. Plus the stakes of this conflict aren't nearly high enough to risk very limited resources. The F-22 has still never been utilized to its full capabilities. Better to keep it that way until it's actually needed. Those planes generally stay on American soil and have recently participated in exercises in the Pacific from Guam.

To where, and why?

A plane isn't a rocket launcher. You can't just give someone a plane and shove an untrained pilot into it - and given that there's a ban on F22 exports, nobody but US military pilots are trained to fly it. Ukraine isn't a NATO member, so US pilots can't go fly F22s and defend Ukraine from Russian invasion.

I'm not sure why you think it makes sense.

Alright. Also, I did not say that it makes sense.

Then you need to work on your thoughts, because if you've arrived at a conclusion you think is reasonable enough to say it out loud, it's pretty weird to also think it doesn't make any sense.
