Sébastien Loeb Rally EVO (PS4/XB1/PC) - Milestone

I'm having a lot of fun with this. Handling seems to have been improved since the demo and the first Australian stage was a real blast - you can easily lose the back end, as can be seen in a few of the pictures below :)

Based on these few hours, I'm sure that I'll be having fun with this.

You get the '88 Pikes Peak track as well, making it slightly better value.

Unless you already have it, which then makes it stupidly expensive again.

I have no intention of buying them at that price.

Yes it's dumb that to get both cars you have to pay for the track twice.
I was looking forward to this game. But im struggling to want to back a dev that is trying to extort money. These prices and this model is shocking. Besides the fact you have to buy the track for each of the 3 cars, it hasnt escaped me that this gravel track and cars have been put to the side and withheld back from the game when clearly they were bulit with the game ready for release.

After Ride too im not too willing to support milestone. Yea i know i dont have to but the dlc, but the price they hve put on it tells me they are taking the mick out of gamers. Guess what happens if they dont sell a single DLC? time for gamers to stop being mugs

Frankly I think it's an oversight more than trying to extort money. I give it days before all 3 things can be bought separately for about £2.40 a pop.

I didn't see an update for the demo, which is a shame. Wasn't able to play it due to no T500RS support on the PS4 (my T300+PC is in another room), so can't really make a call on whether it's worth getting or not.

EDIT: Eurogamer reviewed the PS4 version and wasn't very complimentary: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-01-29-sebastien-loeb-rally-evo-review

[worried I'll end up disliking it and playing DiRT Rally in absolute max settings on the PC instead]

So I had about 2 hours on it this morning, dabbled in a few modes so here are my first impressions and some pros and cons. This is the xbox one version.

It gives you the 106 straight away to begin with and you make your team from the off, I think it's a very cool aspect naming the co driver, choosing your registration plate, team name, logo, colours, livery, helmet, design and racing suit. Nice to have some flexibility even if some options are slightly limited, its definitely not Forza levels of customisation but its more than we have had in any other rally game.

Started with the pad and jumped into freeplay, all the tracks are available from the off but cars aren't, you can use any car in your garage, or you can rent from a small selection, 1 from each class. So took the Punto S2000 onto the San Romolo stage from the demo and it felt very nice, there are some differences in feel to the demo but its hard to pinpoint what so the patch notes will likely cover that. I then took the works Mini Countryman WRC onto sweet lamb for my first gravel/mud experience in the game. It feels great! The car slips and slides on the wet mud, braking is tricky and I found it quite easy to overcook the power and spin out of the slower corners. But it feels solid, a good challenge.
Decided then to plug the wheel in (G920), set it up to be default across everything apart from feedback and vibration which I upped to 100 and 60 respectively, leaving rotation on automatic for now and then calibrated. Did what I did with the pad and took the Mini WRC to sweet lamb and it felt even better, the demo did lack feel but its hard to tell with tarmac, on the mud it felt much more alive and responsive, again could be an effect of the patch but it feels excellent. On auto rotation the Mini felt like it had around 200 degrees rotation whereas the 106 feels closer to 900.
Digging into elsewhere, rallycross is an absolute blast! The tracks are very fun to drive and its nice to see joker laps have been implemented properly. You can also do a rallycross championship in quick mode. Likewise you can also do a rally championship using any of the classes and you can choose from 1 day rallies up to 4 day rallies. With any combination of countries.
Did a bit of the Loeb experience next, completing debut, the videos ofmhim discussing his career are brilliant and a nice insight into his career. The Loeb experience does look thin on events but kt is a nice thing to have. Career mode looks to be the meat of the game. The first section has 3 classes, and each class has further events, 2WD rookie has 10 events, some are single stages, some are rallycross, but there's also eliminations, sector challenges and whole rallies as well. Plenty of content to get stuck into. I did find medium a bit easy and was still able to battle for wins on hard despite not knowing the stages but I think the natural difficulty progresses through the classes but I am contemplating putting it on the hardest difficulty named "realistic" and using H pattern shifting and clutch in cars that have that in real life.

So pros and cons:
Pros:
Stages are challenging and a lot of fun from thenones I have driven so far.
Rallycross is an absolute blast and justifies its place in the game.
Car selection is huge.
Nice to have the option to just do championships in any class.
90% of the time the graphics are fantastic, in an authentic kind of way.
Physics are brilliant, the cars all feel different and need different styles between classes. Even if the physics aren't accurate in some peoples eyes, to me it feels like how I would expect rally cars to feel.
Loeb experience is good filler content.

Cons:
Can't choose weather conditions for stages, only time of day.
Will take a while to collect all the cars, whilst good for longevity it could get frustrating to just get the cars you want.
There are some very noticeable framerate drops when it gets busy on screen, noticed it particularly on Finland.
Loading screens can be long.

Great sum-up @MildAshers 👍

I have just created my team "PSA Motorsport"

My driver 's name is Sam Fiacre and my co- driver is Jean Todt :D

Numberplate : P308R / Racenumber: 76

But the download is loading so everyone is back in the garage and motorhomes. Hope to really test it tomorrow :)

The 405 beast is downloaded and I love the sound after buying or changing à car in the garage 👍

I haven't played much but, I did setup my team colors and names and a do a few Rallycross races and hotlaps......agreed that Rallycross is an absolute blast.

My TT times don't seem to upload though, probably being in NA doesn't help :( but, at least I get to play :)

Here is a quick video of a Rallycross TT and one of the opening name/motif choices

This sounds like it's turned out to be a top notch title. I'm slightly regretting not asking for it as my valentine's gift from the wife and getting an SD adapter for the iPad instead.

I like the sound of making your team on the starter car and even more so that the car in question is a series 1 106.

On XB1 the framerate slows and stutters whenever the stage has a lot of complex scenery to draw. It's borderline unplayable, which is a shame, because the core game is pretty good.

'Tis a blast the 106 and fun faffing about with liveries and the like. I did think at first that the co-drivers voice matched the country flag choice, as I'd chosen Ireland...but then I changed the flag and the voice stayed the same. That would have been a totally unexpected addition.

Hafren on the Welsh rally is one heck of a stage. Came across it and the end of the 3rd section in the Loeb experience. '03 spec Xsara, serious workout for the wheel. Great fun, almost wanted to fail to go back and do it again.
Hell, I re-do stages for the sheer fun. It's quite surprising how different an experience you can have on a tricky surface between two attempts :) I only had time for the first three events on rookie level (a few times each) before work today, so San Romolo, Australia and a stage in D'Alsace.

Not had a go at that one yet, however the very first stage I had to have a go on (before anything else) was Sweet Lamb.

Have to say its not the best looking title around by any length, but it so far its great fun.

I decided to give the PS4 demo another try and actually enjoyed it this time (maybe I was just in a bad mood when I played it originally - and had probably also been hoping for something that wasn't a narrow 100% tarmac stage). Also plays well enough with the DualShock.

I was going to wait for Dirt Rally but I've been without a rally game for too long (haven't played one since WRC 4 and Dirt 3 on the PS3) so I decided to buy Sebastien Loeb Rally. And I'm sure I'll also get Dirt Rally in April.

I seem to recall having a wealth of racing games - track cars, rally, futuristic racers, ATVs, snowboarding - to choose from on the PS3 (already relatively early in its life cycle, but maybe my memory is playing tricks on me), but here two years into the PS4 cycle DriveClub is still the only one I really like (though fortunately I really do like it a LOT), and the options have been very slim in general.

I think back then was pretty much the peak point for gaming popularity in general and a few game developers have shut down since - even some big ones as the market gets tougher and production costs affect choices. It's a shame.

Yes, I have found it significantly better.

I agree! It plays a lot better than the demo. It's still sensitive but there is a much better feel of control!

So...

I have played the game for about 30 minutes and I went direct into the Loeb Experience. I am impressed by the interviews of Loeb so far. I have seen 2 and they are worth every minute. A great insight in his career and for me personally it adds some great value 👍

Further impression will probably come later because my time with the game has been to short.

Meanwhile I created a photomode thread for all those who like to take some snaps...

Can't wait to get back into the game
