Owens is the only alien so far. Looks like kcheeb, ChuthuluGoat, DragonWhisky, Joe, and myself are the others who have signed up.

LOL. Apparently you've not run with Oshawa lately in an F1. Thinking he sand bags Sunday nights and plays it off as lack of practice. ;) :sly: :crazy:

Pretty sure dabney will deny alienhood and Owens will flat out say he's not, but I think they're both in clinical denial stages and should probably seek out professional assistance. ;) :sly:

I will wholeheartedly deny alienhood. I got boot-stomped routinely the couple months I spent in D1. I'm off and on competitive in D2.

Ok you can deny that you're an alien, but you've swum the waters in outlying galaxies. ;)

And since I and most of Div 3 got regularly "boot-stomped" last month, I can't say I'm not glad you got promoted. :) ;)

Sing me Up

Hi myato1. Welcome the Open-Wheel Shoot Out. One of the admins will accept your Fr to D2. You will need all 3 cars for tomorrow night. Please make sure they are broken in with oil change.

Karts on Rome will top out at 86mph early into the straights but doesn't bounce off the limiter in an annoying fashion. I think we should try it. I have very little experience in karts, but I think that is how they should be, topping out early and time is gained or lost in the corners. Seemed ok to me to run. If people don't like it we can limit the car to shorter tracks in the future.

Personally I think we should change the track from Rome for the 125 kart. You only have to let off the throttle once a lap. What about a custom kart track? They are fun, and spontaneous. We could create one today or one just before the race.

Only once? I was braking for every turn :dopey: I'm no ALIEN!

It's only one 10 Lap race. We can choose shorter tracks in the future if we don't like karts on long tracks.

@Dragonwhisky
I practiced for that F1 race and I'm very familiar with the cars. Fortunately we are running them here on RMs, which I am not used to.

Yeah, I was cruising around at 86 the whole time except for the tight hairpin.

This will encourage throttle control on the straights since hitting the rev limiter for any period of time will do nothing but slow you down. Keeping it "off the chip" for most of the track will be the challenge here.

Not true with karts. You can have it pegged and it doesn't "bounce". Just 86mph...

Are you sure you want to change the track? I think you will have a great chance to win this one then!👍

The Karts don't bounce of the rev limiter. They just sorta stick to 86mph steady and up to 88 in the draft. Very smooth. However, I don't think this is by any means an easy combo to complete a full lap in.

^ See! Didn't I say he'd play it off as lack of practice. :lol:

Maybe your not a full fledged alien but you seem to hang out in the same bars as they do. ;)

Well that won't be near as fun as trying to keep it off the limiter.

Since this is the case I would recommend for the full season at least, when Karts are chosen that they be limited to an "approved" set of tracks. Not really that interested in custom tracks at the moment, since I've just got comfortable in my knowledge with the usual assortment GT5 has to offer, but will go with it if that's what management decides to run.

Busted! lol
The rumble strips do make it very interesting. It's like the track is lined with jumps. I take back what I said earlier about this combo.

Something to consider. PP penalty.

1st = -3pp
2nd = -2pp
3rd = -1pp

Compiled so say I win two in a row I'd be at -6 pp total.

Now you have to have a point where PP penalty gets removed.

So if anyone that has been penalized PP and finishes in the last three spots would earn some back.

Last = +3pp
Second from Last = +2pp
Third from Last = +1pp

Take some extra time to track but truly would not be much hassle. This would help level the field with out using boost feature.

The no tune setting allows for power to be removed and this will lower PP. :)

Just something to think about.

I actually did think about making this a Parity series similar to the way Vol ran it. Sure would help even out the field a bit. Anyone opposed to my looking at including a parity component to the series? It's all for fun after all.

Just so everyone is clear...

For the preseason race only, we are running 3 different cars and tracks. The overall winner for the Preseason Race will pick the car to be used for all 3 races next week using the prize system:

Prizes:

1st Place Picks next weeks car (must be changed)
2nd Place picks new track #1
3rd Place picks new track #2
4th place picks new track #3

Tracks are picked after car selection has been made.

I'd be ok adding some parity, I assume that means the same as performance penalty.

After a few races with the system presented the talent balance should provide close racing. As well could lead to multiple winners through out the season.

June 11th, 2012 Line Up:

Combo 1
Dragonwhisky's Pick- Racing Kart 125 (Sport Soft Tires) @ Rome (10 Laps)
31 HP, 511PP

Strange. Went to check this on my 125 and it had 28HP w/ 501PP.

Went to check settings on it, engine limiting is not available but the HP ticked over to 29. Is there more break in I need on this thing? It has 251 miles on it. GTAuto says it doesn't need an oil change.

It's happened to me before with a couple of other cars where I don't get the full power for another 50 or 100 miles.

Good practice with Dab and Owens. I think I'll keep up in the F1 and Caterham, but the kart is kicking my a$$. Need to practice that one some more.

Rebuild engine.

If no luck. Buy new. Set London to 160-180 laps. Start race pause. (Do this online in your lobby) no pits it will keep going. ;) I got an F1 doing this right now. Have a bright Red but the Maroon is in line with my Hibiscus Red so had to get one of them broke in.

Edit: 3:33 minute laps. 155 total laps. 1.19 miles per lap. 184.45 miles tomorrow at lunch. ;)

I find sometimes it's easier and much quicker to simply practice laps for next track to be used in Practice Mode / free run - practice mileage counts towards break in. Unless Bob can do it for you.

I sent friendrequest to snail division 2, BTW do we need to use exactly that kart? Or can it be the 125 spl?

Normally you have to use the exact same car, and but for preseason use the SPL IF you don't have the right one.

You can buy the 125, can't you? How much power does it gain by breaking it in?
