Tunes & Strategies

Pros:
  • Good fuel economy. Can do 7 laps without any fuel saving.
  • Fully tuneable downforce.
  • Fully tuneable rear diff.
  • Whole race can be done with the same set of racing hard tires.

Cons:
  • Like all vgt cars, no tuning parts available other than ballast and power restrictor.
  • No fully tuneable gears. Only final drive was adjustable. Whole race went with gears 3 to 5.
  • Hybrid, so practical performance is lower than PP-value because of battery life.
  • No cockpit view, so it has no use with VR in this game that was "developed VR in mind from the start".
  • Suspension is partially tuneable. Ride height and camber angles cannot be adjusted.
  • Spins easily when exiting slow speed corners.

Another swap:

With the swap engine the car felt faster than it actually was, and it doesnt really feel nice to drive, so I was relieved after having reached the line and not needing to destroy my hands with trying to stay on track 😓

Editing to add a road car (no swap) entry:
1693911420585.png

Fastest lap of 1:38.1xx, AI was faster.

Adding 2 new entries and took a look at a few of the already present cars.

Tuning of them generally speaking: fit (almost) all parts, prefer reduced weight.
Gearing is chosen to start race or leaving pits without needing to shift on the first frame - with that they are very much identical.
All of them FM6 start to finish, including shortshifting.

Swapped car:

Too much power for comfort :(

And road cars:
1.

Also too much power for its handling, not good for racing.
AI got fastest lap, mine was around 1:37.75x

Nice Man 👍

I may have some helpful info for you if you’re not already familiar with the discussion history of the Escudo in this thread, specifically regarding the correct Tire Width/Offset depending on tune as that became an important factor in lap times.

There were a few tunes & strategies that evolved from a handful of members making adjustments to each others setups as race times were pushed increasingly faster; unfortunately I haven’t finished compiling all of them yet into one spot.

Here’s a handful to check in links below. I believe there’s information from Realplonker, Racingfan1, Autobahn GTO, Larzi-, Turbodatsun & Peniu (who also has a ‘fast lap’ video clip, See last link on bottom)

Thanks for this! I think the biggest thing is from watching @peniu lap it's the gearing that's very different to mine and probably where I'm losing time as my focus was less wheelspin in the power band where the video seems to be all about acceleration

Glad it helps! Gearing is definitely very important in Escudo - it suffers massively in low RPM due to turbo lag, just have a look at the power/RPM graph. You do not need to be afraid to floor it in lower gears too - AWD helps to keep it stable and it needs 2 stops anyways, so the tires are not an issue here.

Turns out... its my aero.
Tried the gearing and wheel sizes but I couldn't get past 200mph with the drag I had and ended up slower than the time I posted above.. More on this later!

This is something I noticed on a few other occasions already.
While it certianly is nice to have aero for cornering speed, as soon as the track has a somewhat higher focus on straight speed then a lower aero setting ("even" with less power) provides more speed (and requires less fuel).
What is left is to find the sweet spot where the car still does behave while going as low as possible, without causing any sudden oversteering moments.

So this:
SardegnaMazda-race00090.jpg

This would be the race to go under. Bishop glitched out and didn't pit and somehow that created traffic jams which were favourable for me and I avoided heavy traffic in some crucial places.
But... on the last lap, on the main straight I looked at the wind conditions (those changes bit me more that once, so I'm checking wind twice a lap on both straights) and in this moment Portilla came out of pits and I parked right into his rear! Over 3 seconds out of the window right there.
:banghead::banghead::banghead:

So gutted...

But it will come, I won't stop.

That didn't take long...

Didn't catch the screen with first laps but it was such perfect race (for my standards) that except laps 1, 8 and 9 every single one was under 1:30. Last lap was 28.9 (switched to FM3/2 for the latter half to burn all fuel left)

SardegnaMazda-race56-5-laps.jpg

Mazda is much more demanding than Nissan. Less turning, weaker breaking, very nervous on exits (with X as gas I needed to be extra careful not to spin the rear). Top speed is ok, don't remember if it's faster than Nissan or not. A bit more fuel hungry (sometimes I had to ease off on the last lap to make it full 8 laps with FM4). Strategy is 8 laps, pit for fuel and RM tires, 7 laps - FM4/AT.
I worked on it for two months straight and it took around 12 thousand kilometers to do it. Used @BobDx123 & @Turbodatsun v2 tune. Tried tunes for RS tires, but HP cut made the car slower on straights and improved cornering didn't compensate for that.

On to Porsche...

These times are month old but better post them at least before patch. My plan was drive GT-R under 24 min, but I have not driven Sardinia since. No idea what was my fastest lap. GT-R is definitely under 24 min car, but the race must be clean.

I thought the Porsches were going to get engine swaps available from the 962 but nope 👎

I'm late to this thread, but here's a car I haven't seen listed -- The Italdesign VGT Off-road. Finished in 25:11 driving automatic. Those of you who drive manual and short shift can probably beat that by a minute or more. Not much to tune on this one. Did one pit stop after 8 laps using medium tires. Fuel = 2 then 3 for first 8 laps, then Fuel = 1 then 2 for final 7 laps. Ballast = 24 at position (-50). That's it.

Hey @Larzi- thanks for all of the tunes you have shared here. I don’t know if you’re still active but I was wondering if you could share a few tunes. I know these aren’t the fastest but I love gr.1 cars and wanted to see if you had anything for the Toyota TS030 ‘12 , Nissan gtr LM Nismo 15 , and the Red Bull x2019. Thank you again

Here. TS030 was little low on PP, so I tuned it up by playing with ECU and power restrictor. Originally it was 798PP (ECU 100 and Restrictor 89). I dont know why.

Edit. Strategy: 7 laps - pit in (no tire change) - 8 laps. FM1 the whole race.

Impossible to spin in this car. You can step on the gas without worry, even if half the car is on the grass.
This tune is awesome and I get exactly the same stats as you but I need to pit twice. No way am I getting to lap 8 with FM1?

My best lap time and race time. Could probably shave a few seconds off the 1st lap but I'm too weary of loosing my clean race bonus the 1st lap time was high 1:30's.
Was having to pit twice before Larzi's help. FM1 the whole race, 1 pit for fuel at lap 8 and you're good. So far ahead you could get tyres if you want. Short shifting it the way to get quicker and save on fuel 👍👍 do t let rev limiter go above half way

You can't loose the CRB anyway.
Nice effort mate.
