Well, the thread title says to see the first post, and the excessive category is in the first post. We'll have to wait and see what Boz Mon says.

I know, I had PM'ed Boz because I thought each winner was going to pick a category. But then we changed the rules.

Well, 'excessive' was not stated by the prior week's winner, so I can't see how it could be a category, save for it being stated in the original post.

Excessive was a category from Joey D, he won one of the previous categories from week 1. The other 4 were from YSSMAN.

I looked and looked and looked but the only thing I could find was the plate. I guess this guy, like so many people, think their Subaru is an Australian car.

And since YSSMAN gave 4 categories we can just drop mine, it's no big deal.

Good photos, but who is the one who dishes-out the points?

Okay, result time:

1) '80s Japanese Sports Car: I've got to give this one to Ferrari_Chris. Granted that we didn't have the Skyline in the US, I was a bit hesitant, but the R31 spot is pretty cool. Before that, I've really only seen them in videogames. Good spot!

2) Best Limo: Well, its going to have to go to Doug, since he is the only person who found one.

3) Patriotic Vehicle: Again, goes to Doug, as he was the only person to find something.

+ 1) Vanity Plate: Since Doug pretty much swept the categories, this is just going to go to Joey. He tried.

So points after this week are as follows:

Leaderboard
1. M5Power 3pts
2. YSSMAN 2pts.
2. Joey D 2pt.
4. Ferrari_Chris 1pt.

w00t! Alright, now Doug picks four categories this week.

Okay - to stimulate participation these are going to have absolutely nothing to do with where you live. All sightings must be on-road. No shows, etc.

1. MOST VALUABLE RED CAR: whoever comes up with a red vehicle worth the most money wins.
2. MOST OUT OF PLACE VEHICLE: like a Phantom towing a boat. Or a Lamborghini with ski racks. Or a yellow Porsche Carrera GT in front of a tiny south Denver home...
3. LONGEST DISTANCE: this can be calculated objectively using mileage. Take a photo of the license plate from the furthest away.
4. FASTEST/QUICKEST BLUE CAR: whoever spots the fastest or quickest blue car - when it was stock - wins. So for instance a modded Civic running tens would still lose to a blue 550 Maranello since the Ferrari was quicker new.

Good luck folks!!

You're just going to rent out a house on the other side of the road, and setup a time lapse photgraph session and hope it comes back, aren't you? :D

I read that as taking the photo from the furthest away! So what we're looking for, for us Europeans anyway, would be a car from another country?

Good categories though. I might get a chance to participate this week. 👍

EDIT:

I presume a car park is OK? After all, it must have been on the road to get there.

My goodness!! Finally someone comes up with a brilliant plan! :D

Actually I think about the sighting sometimes and I now believe the reason it was there was to visit the people who live across the road. The grade on their side of the road is much steeper, and from what's in their driveway it looks like they're car people. Since the people whose house it was in front of have moved out, I'd better hope it was there for the people on the opposite side, since that's the only chance I have of seeing it again.

Me, write a paragraph about a car sighting that happened twenty months ago? No way!

Yes - a photo of a vehicle from another country, or just far away in your country. If you're in England, a tag from Scotland might do. Probably not, but you get the idea. Based on my experiences in the UK, it probably won't be too hard to find some out-of-country vehicles.

And yes, parking lots are just fine - the only things I'm excluding are shows, organized meets, and dealers, since any show where Ferrari is included is just handing you the 'most expensive red car' category.

I would think the photo has to be taken within the week of the contest. Otherwise Doug would be able to look through all his photos and win every category, every week.
Okay, I phrased that very poorly. I meant take pictures of cars we had already seen before (a posted pictures of in whatever thread) again for that week.

All that has to happen is you need to have seen and photographed it that week - even if you've seen it many times before.

Ok, here is what i got so far.

MOST OUT OF PLACE VEHICLE: Its an Arnage parked in front of a tiny little house. And the picture practically shows the entire house.

LONGEST DISTANCE: A 300C SRT8 from Utah

dsc02666fl6.jpg

Very nice - ironically I live in Colorado (a Utah border state) and saw a Charger SRT-8 from Ontario the other day! Except that I was in Georgia at the time, so not that weird. But sort of, no less, since performance cars like that don't usually travel such long distances.

For the record, that's a 1,900 mile drive (3,100km) so everyone, you're looking to beat that.

EDIT: although I feel like he should get some bonus with Utah having such a small population (just 2.2 million). Maybe I should divide the population by the distance, the lowest number wins. Although for now the rules are the rules - maybe next time. Keep spotting!

EDIT: by the way, that's exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for in the 'most out of place vehicle' category. Another good example I thought of would be a Taurus in a valet line that also included Ferraris and Bentleys. I've seen that happen before.

This should be a bit easier I would think.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I guess I was too hard, wasn't I?

Still, good categories this week, and I'm looking forward to the hunt. Thus far, results are minimal.

...I did get a tip from a friend of mine about a burgundy Jaguar XJ220 that is driving around in Ada (where I grew up), but I have yet to see it. That one might be a good one to search for...

Your categories weren't overly hard, I mean you should have been able to find that stuff but it seems I kept coming up short.

See that thing and you win all categories regardless.

Good luck. :D

Well, I'll post it for the 'valuable red car' category. Although it is a long way from japan (But registered here).

Edit - Can I post up more pics for the same category later and mark one as a final? Or should I just hold off until I've decided?

Valuable in which country?

For example, that red R32 above wouldn't sell for anymore than $NZ6000.

Yet maybe it's worth $$$ in the US?

And I have no chance of winning this distance category - we have the same plates all over our country...

Post up one final picture.

I'm going to say most valuable in its respective country, though I don't think it'll matter once final entries come in.

Yeah, I know it's not worth much. I'll edit the picture out if I find something better.
But for now, I present:
carspot001ek0.jpg

A New Mexico license plate in Canada. Sidney, BC to be more precise. Any ideas of how far that would be? (By the way, are we doing this as-the-crow-flies, or by a road route?).

Edit - 2927 KM using Google Maps.

I got 2,611 KM based on the drive to Albuquerque. Not far enough to outdo the Utah spot in Toronto, but damn close!

Its not that quick, and its not that blue, but it is sort of quick and it is sort of blue.
