Hi

Henrik, I don't know if you noticed, but seems that Part 3 and 4 are basically the same on your videos and it seems that the end of the race is missing.
You're right.I upload the last 5 laps now.

Thanks Henrik! BTW, do you have any video of the Wet start? I'd be curious to see it.

I've just posted the final video on my race recap so it's now complete.

The video of the wet race is terrible, but I will upload the first 10 min.after that I pretty much ride alone chasing new_soul,so not much to see anyway.

Uploaded part 4 of the main race(it's on page 28)
start of wet race will be up in 10 min.(missing 2 first corners)my fault.sorry

Finally I am glad Virginia is over. This is not my track and I knew before the race starts I will end up far behind.
Nevertheless the race had to be done. I drove my own race like a time trial and it was relaxing. No rushing no pushing when you are at the back and you know you have not a chance to catch up. The last 2 or 3 rounds was a little bit more hectic as the field started lapping me. I had to look forward to safe places on the track for being passed without standing in your way during your fights for positions. For me I think I did quite well in this and nobody was hindered.

Once I got behind Frawe, I was stuck. Whether because he was simply out of sorts, or by design, he was vigorously defending the inside line of 3 corners in a row and I just couldn't get around him. In that case, because of where he put his car and where I put my car, I had no choice but to hold station. Had I seen a chance to get around him cleanly, you better believe I would have gone for it. And if you're closing from behind at a higher speed, sometimes that's easier to do.

Generally it is my understanding of a race that you have to work for your positions. Even the faster drivers must fight. If you are faster and want pass me you have to force me into a mistake or you must find a place where you can outbrake me have a better line or whatever. If it is not possible you have to wait for your chance. As Jeff said "Hold the station".
On the other side if I get lapped I have no problems to make it as easy for you to pass me. (not only for Jeff)

I think VIR is a great sim-racing track - there are so many places where a small mistake can have bad consequences. That results in "interesting" races. Even though I love Mugello & it seems more like a "real" race track, I have to say there's a whole lot more going on at VIR than at Mugello ...

Well there was certainly a lot going on with MHailwood. He's already into the 1:57s! I still haven't had a chance to really fine tune my setup and nail down a 'perfect' lap but he's almost 1.5 seconds quicker after I did about 15~20 practice runs. :scared:

I think you guys have all gone nuts. I'm a casual racer and there's just no way I am going to spend the next 15 evenings testing SCC/348 Challenge/Mugello combo. And that's all I have to say for now ...

...for now. But I'm sure come race day, you'll be quick to tell us that you really shouldn't even take part and had no time to practice. :sly:

Come on! You had everybody going mad, swapping out: GT5P, NFS:Shift, SSV8:NC, SCC & F1:CE for weeks preparing for the Pentathlon. Practicing ONE single car on ONE single track over the next 12 days isn't too much. Is it? :D

I think you exaggerate our commitment here... I doubt I'll manage to practice more than... 10 nights... and even then only if I manage to sell my wife and children so I can quit my day job.

:ill:

You two guys are funny and nice company in the lobbies but the truth is that 2 weeks ago I was able not only to keep up with you both at VIR, but occasionaly to be ahead (you probably don't even remember this, but I do).

Come race day, 2 weeks later, and I stood no chance. I admire frawe and his no-worries-attitude about being off pace at VIR, as I admired Hairy Dave's similar attitude at Mont Tremblant but ... tbh, I like to battle you guys, even if iyt's only for 4th or 5th place, and I really don't like much to race alone at the back of the field.

Looks like you have a pretty decent time at Mugello, Mario. I hit a 2.00.07 last night after about 15 laps, but I feel like I've hit a wall. I think I'd need another 9,000 laps to drop down into the 1.58s.

I have no memory of this... I was drunk at the time. :D

But seriously, I'll be the first to admit that if I don't know a particular track at least to the point where I understand and remember the turns, I'm not very good at this game. However keep in mind that I've had the game for just over two months now. How long have you had it? I would guess you've been around all the tracks much more than I have. (With the possible exception of the ones from the Challenge series). :)

I'm not sure, but if I was the guy who finished just in front or just behind you at VIR, I think I'd be quite insulted. :sly:

There's two possabilities Mario. A) We let you win. Or B) you're drinking form the same tall glass as my friend, Biggles. :D

Alas, both are wide of the mark. So I hate to tell you buckaroo, but we didn't really get any faster. Well, OK--maybe a little. :) But if I went home right now, completely cold, and did 5 quick laps of Mont Tremblant, I'm willing to bet there's no WAY I would be able to equal my times from the last event, two weeks ago. And this is even more relevant with VIR where one corner leads into the next. If anything, you adapt much quicker than I do. And I'm willing to bet, if you had gotten home just an hour earlier and spent some time refreshing your memory of lines and braking points, I'm guessing you would have been both a lot quicker and a lot more confident, and probably fighting closer to the podium end. Your fastest time in the race was almost a full second off your PB so it's clear you could have gone quicker.

I have to admit, I did practice quite a bit for VIR. But that's mainly because it's one of my worst tracks and after the first practice session, I felt woefully off the pace and unsure of what I needed to do to be faster.

I have no idea what time I have posted there, must've been made a long time ago.

Manny, I wasn't trying to take anything away from your evident talent.

I'm not sure I'm following you on both accounts: A) That's not racing; B) Sharing glasses is even less civilized than smoking in your basement while playing snooker or 8 ball or whatever you guys call it. And at least a good smoke gives you pleasure, while sharing glasses can potentially kill you, especially if we're drinking bears

btw, Nobody finished just ahead of me or just behind me at VIR. Biggles finished a long way ahead, Bullie (The VIR-hater :D ) finished a long way behind. The first race, after a succession of mistakes made me lost contact with Biggles, was a bit lonely.

And I'll end this now or else people will think I'm a "moaner".

Manny, I wasn't trying to take anything away from your evident talent.

 No, no I didn't think you were and sorry if I came off that way. All I'm saying is that if I don't practice in this game, I won't even be competitive. Some people have a way of picking up how to drive a particular track very quickly, but usually I'm not one of those people.

MSH
Just out of curiosity, are all competitors here playing with a wheel?

No, just the 'slow' ones. ;)

Same here, maybe if I can pull every corner right at one lap I could drop to the high 1,59 but after that not even if I did 19.000 laps I would drop to the 1,58:ill:

Thanks for the overview. So most of you are blistering quick with the wheel.
I knew I would need to practice a lot though :)

Well, you have to understand, some of us have damned near dedicated our lives to stacking the leaderboards before these events. (At least, according to some people.) :D

In truth, there's only one 'blistering' quick wheel turner--mhm66. And Vompatti is the only one I know who was immediately on the pace in this game with only a few hours of game play behind him. In both cases, very impressive. For 'normal' people it takes a lot of practice. Don't let the tip-top numbers on the leaderboards discourage you. There are Aliens among us who have infiltrated nearly every race game. :odd: Beware.

QUALIFYING: 2 laps - conditions 50% dry/wet chosen at random
RACE 1 (Feature Race): - 20 Laps - Dry
RACE 2 (Sprint Race): 15 Laps - Wet

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This information is already posted on the first page but I'm also reposting it here for the convenience of any newcomers. If you're not familiar with the rules for this event, please read carefully! Please also remember that GTPlanet's OLR Rules apply. Please click here to read them in their entirety. Some of the rules listed do not apply specifically to this game. But most of them should be simple common sense.

I will first open a PSN Text Chat room under my PSN ID: jjaisli approximately 5~10 minutes before the event starts and will first send invites to those on my buddy list who are on-line and have expressed an interest in joining this series. You must first join the text chat to take part in the race. If anybody new would like to join, provided there's space in the lobby (16 players or less), you're more than welcome. Just send me a PSN message and I'll send you an invite in return. However, considering the points will carry over from one event to the next, I would like to encourage those who want to join this series to try and show up for every race. Once everybody is securely in the text chat room, I will open a private lobby in Supercar Challenge and then send invites to those already in the text chat window.

LOBBY CONDITIONS
TC: Off
ABS: Off
SC: Off
RL: Off
Transmission: Automatic (which will allow you to choose manual, semi or full auto)
Collisons: Off after penalty except during qualifying (see below for details)
Penalties: unlimited
Setup Restrictions: NONE! You're free to set up the car as you wish.
Grid Order: * see below

QUALIFYING

We will have a two lap qualifying session before the feature race in order to determine grid order. For the first lap, please start off immediately to avoid a penalty but then drive moderately until you build a gap of a least 4~5 seconds to the car in front of you. However, I ask that the first person on the grid, set off at a 'quick' pace to avoid stragglers on his flying lap, who are still trying to build a gap. The second time time across the start/finish line will be your one and only qualifying lap. Collisions will be off during qualifying. If for some reason you have an accident or fall off the track, PLEASE continue your lap and do not go back to the lobby. The following Sprint Race will be run in reverse finishing order from the feature race! Qualifying could be run in either wet or dry conditions and will be chosen at Random before the event starts. Keep it on the track and try to avoid RED laps, which will relegate you to the back of the grid.

2nd place: 10 points
3rd place: 8 points
4th place: 6 points
5th place: 5 points
6th place: 4 points
7th place: 3 points
8th place: 2 points
9th place: 1 points
With an additional 1 point going to the fastest lap holder. Watch your red lines. ;)

As a final word of warning, larger lobbies almost always suffer some kind of connection problem, the most common being 2 or more players not being able to successfully connect together in the lobby. However, there is a work-around. I encourage EVERYBODY to read through this thread and take appropriate steps. Even if you believe your connection is fast/secure/quick/trouble free, etc, you may unwittingly be preventing somebody else from joining.

Going into the final race of the 348 Challenge season, only 4 drivers have a mathematical chance of winning the title. And of those, eyes will be on the first two in the championship points standings: mhm66 & new_soul. The points are tight enough that it could go either way and a small mistake by one or the other could be enough to turn the tide. But there will be no favors at this race and everybody will be out reaching for the podium. Get ready.

See you soon... :)👍

Ow!:ouch: My kidneys hurt just from watching that video. Rather stiffly sprung that GTO, isn't it! At least I'm not the only one who gets sideways in the Correntaio turn! (Of course, he has about 400 more reasons to get sideways!)

Good video arvore!👍

No of course You're not...:scared: I always hesitate in aproaching it in 3rd gear low rev(but in the wet or late breaking the oversteer is hard to manage) or in 2nd with a little more grip and revs at the exit of the corner:indiff:

Last night Biggles took the opportunity to show me just how Mugello should be driven. (In other words he beat me badly) He really is very smooth on that track and seems to hold his speed much better than I was doing. Keeping that lesson in mind I was able to put in a couple of mid-1:59 laps this afternoon once I'd corrected the terminal understeer in my setup. This track reminds me of Mt. Tremblant in that you really need to hold onto as much of your speed as possible through the corners.

You little:censored:;) ,there goes my top ten lap time:nervous::lol:
Now probably only next week I'll get a shot at that(althought I doubt I'll drop the 2 min. barrier:grumpy: )

@jjaisli
You got it right. I'm driving - or should I say have driven?:( - with good old Sixaxis, i.e. without even rumble.

Any interesting video I've missed and is worth watching ? :)

Well, I suppose they're always more interesting when you're a part of them. :( Any news on your end? I see after a brief replenishment phase in April, the PS3 is once again in extreme short supply and the same 'smaller' shops are charging far above retail price. This has been going on since January and it's getting tiresome. It's been one of the worst periods for console and game sales in years and Sony still can't get it right; amazing. Although I suppose this will be rectified in a month or two as they were supposedly increasing production but it takes time before this filters down and inventory stock is at sufficient levels. I've also heard some unsubstantiated rumors of a further price cut this fall to $249. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

P.S. Anybody driven in the rain yet? What kind of times are you getting? Bullie was the only one on last night when I logged in and he was only in XMB, so I did about 20 odd laps in TT, back and forth, trying to fine tune my setup. It's quick but I'm not that happy with it as it's a bit too 'nervous'. I suppose I'll have to scale it back before the race. But at that point I was just to tried to do any wet running and I've yet to test it in the rain.

I still don't have any laps done in Mugello (part from the ones in single player campaign). To be honest, I don't think I can perform on the same level as in MT and VIR. I think that Mugello is very familiar track for most of you and much liked track -> so it's also a track that you have raced a lot. So I think I'll be struggling against you guys in here. Let's hope that I can start to practice this weekend, I've already lost quite a many days.
