Actually, on the dyno, the newer K20s kick the SR20VE's backside.

Then again... I love the SR, so that's not a big deal...

Don't know if this has been posted here or not, but it's absolutely fantastic:

I'm actually not a fan of the advert at all. I get what it's trying to say, but it just seems weird to me.

It's like a GTA/L.A. Noire cut scene. Unfortunately you can't just press 'X' to skip it (unless you are on Sky+)

These poorer quality CGI humans just freak me out.

I knew there was bits missing from the advert I saw on tv last night. The full version is much better, I don't like the way they took out nearly every bit that shows action or the car sliding on the advert I saw. I like the advert though.

I liked that commercial though the inception kick music was and odd choice.

Movin on up! Frying bigger fish! Now you know a car is drop dead fabulous when it gets compared to the likes of some of these others. BRZ vs Aventador. lol. What is the Jag doing there?

Was it really an odd choice?

[translated from original French]
Non, je ne regrette rien
No, I don't regret anything

No! Absolutely nothing...
No! I regret nothing
Neither the good that I've done nor the bad
All this is much the same to me!

No! Absolutely nothing...
No! I regret nothing...
It is paid, swept away, forgotten
I don't care about the past!

With my souvenirs
I lit a fire
My sorrows, my pleasures
I need them no more!

Swept away the love affairs
With their tremors
Swept away forever
I leave with nothing ...

No! Absolutely nothing...
No! I regret nothing
Neither the good that I've done nor the bad
All this is much the same to me!

No! Absolutely nothing...
No! I regret nothing...
Because my life, because my joys
Today that begins with you!

Sounds like a perfect choice to me. Same goes for it's use in inception. That song was written in 1956.

I think the advert is utterly fantastic! The slightly Tim Burton feel to the 'sim characters' is what makes the ad so compelling!

I test drove the Toyota GT86 on hour ago.

A few months ago I destroyed the engine of my Mondeo (made a thread about it but a mod locked it and still don't know why) and I was looking to replace my car.

The BRZ/GT86 was on of the cars I was interested in.
Today I had the opportunity to drive with the GT86 for on hour and I must say that I'm definitely not interested in this car anymore.

Although it is a very good looking car, inside an outside, the driving experience was not so positive. The rear suspension is way too stiff for a daily driver. The 2.0l boxer engine sounds like a 1.4l and the lack off torque is a huge let down. The steering wheel is placed in a odd position, which is not a problem and you adjust to it very quickly. As a daily driver, this car is not more fun than my Mondeo (which is repaired. Had a brand new engine, clutch and alternator installed).

The interior is very sporty and well build. The seats are very comfortable but not as good as the standard Recaro seats in my Mondeo.
The official prize of this particular GT86 was €32.110 which is too expensive for this car.

Is that on the Schuylkill river in Philadelplia!? If so, I biked right by it just yesterday. It was the first BRZ I ever saw. I had to stop and admire it for a minute. I also saw it in my college parking lot a few days earlier.

if it was in philly wouldn't it be scion?

Isn't the FRS supposed to have the softer suspension?

If it's anything like a C55 I'm down. Is it stiffer than an R53 Mini S?

I heard that the Toyota version had slightly stiffer suspension so that it drifts more easily, whereas the Subaru is less drifty and a bit more supple.

Perhaps the Toyota does, but I remember reading that the FRS was softer in the back for US roads, and that the Subaru was the same globally. Toyota may be stiffer than the BRZ, but not in Murrica it aint.

The springs and dampers are different on the Scion/Toyota and the Subaru. One of them has stiffer springs but softer dampers while the other is the opposite. Our Scion is indeed more tail-happy than the Subaru. The Toyota and Scion are the same mechanically around the world as far as I've read.

This makes sense because MotorTrend said the FRS had more understeer than the BRZ and that that's why they used the BRZ instead of the FRS in the "Best drivers car of the year film."

The FR-S has more understeer in steady-state cornering. And that's due to softer _front_ springs. Rear on a FR-S is still stiffer than on a BRZ.

Front OE Spring Rate:
Subaru BRZ 27 N/mm (153 lbs/in)
Scion FR-S 23 N/mm (131 lbs/in)

Rear OE Spring Rate:
Subaru BRZ 34 N/mm (195 lbs/in)
Scion FR-S 37 N/mm (211 lbs/in)

The BRZ has slightly softer rear suspension, not sure that that changes your mind, though.
It would not change my mind. The softer suspension is not the deciding factor for me personal. The lack of torque is. This car feels dead in the lower and middle RPM band.

I forgot to mention that the fuel consumption is rather high.

The positive things though is that the steering is very direct. There is a button on the centre console. Activate this button and steering is even more direct.
The throw of the stick when shifting gears is very short but there is a problem with the gearbox but I can't explain it. When shifting gears, sometimes it felt like the clutch didn't fully engage eventhough I pushed the clutch pedal all the way down.

It is a beautiful car, nice interior but it is not for me.

Not sure what you mean. Just drove it to Chicago the other day. I averaged 37mpg (~6.4l/100km). In city, if I drive it like just a plain commuter car I can get mid-20s. Might be low in the land of 1L engines and diesels, but from a car that could be driven around the track with lots of fun - that's plenty of mpgs.
