About Tahiti Road Course changes. I was sure it's really different track, so I create map of demo layout, and I get shocked... It has same track layout. Can you belive it?

Well, people commenting on my video pointed out the reason for the texture issue when I did the course swapping and I comfirmed it to be true here. It's the skybox I was using for that track. I.E. When Monaco had a daytime sky box; it's texture was screwed up. Once I used the Red Rock Valley skybox though, well...

Tada! Monaco is fine now.
Though, I guess it's a shame that the skyboxes screw up the textures for tracks when using different ones.

Wow, I have certainly missed the discussion here lately!

GT2 Modded?

Oh man, it's about time this happened! I have wanted to drive my Escudo on Indi for a while and it looks like I will finally be able to now! :D

EDIT: Anyway, that's pretty cool in my eyes. I wonder if he can do that with the hidden car models. I would like to drive a blue Viper GTS in GT2 as an instance.
Yes. The blue Viper with white stripes will always be better than the silver one with blue stripes.

Well, one more thing I managed to find out. I ported the beta Tahiti Safari track over Tahiti Dirt Route 3 and well; I can comfirm that Tahiti Safari Course is indeed a beta version of Tahiti DR3. I drove a Celica WRC around the track and course nearly matched the final map layout of TDR3.

I recorded a lap of the Celica around the track, but my driving was rough. I'll record a clean lap later.

One thing I want to share is Xenn told me on Steam recently that he finally managed to switch skyboxs via gameshark codes. Hopefully that will be useful when experimenting with skyboxes after porting tracks to see what works.

With the revelation of being able to repack the VOL, here are some things I think are worth exploring:

1. Porting the demo version of tracks like Midfield (from Euro Demo 87) to the final version of the track to see if the AI can still race it properly.

2. Porting the currently semi unplayable Seattle 2000 course to final and seeing if it does anything different from the demo. (Anything at all)

3. Porting hidden tracks from the final game to another track in the final game. (Any hidden track)

That would be awesome if he would be able to do that, then I wouldn't have to constantly spend time switching the courses around to test skyboxes.

EDIT: I should note that actually; the AI can still race on the beta Rome Short just fine. Well, when I pick the track of course.

@RandomCarGuy17 mentioned that car porting does not work yet (crashes and that stuff)... but MMRivit managed to port a logo (that Japanese text that said that the car logo isn't ready yet).

If there is something that is a good experiment subject for car porting, it should the [R]Taurus SHO (both the Mark Martin car and the generic "presentation" car). :)

Yes, he ported a logo, not the actual car. MMRivit also hasn't had the best luck at car porting yet, he told me himself for instance that he tried porting the beta Shelby Daytona Coupe, but the body didn't show up. Of course, I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm certain that we can make the beta cars playable in the final game with trial and error.

EDIT: Here's a video of Tahiti Safari Course with the correct skybox.

(Credits for my Friend Tanner that give me this)

Contains all cars of GT2 euro demo 53! (t002n is not in the list, but is the RRR BG COURSE and it is in the demo gamefiles!)

Benz C-class '95 DTM Model the car appear in the GT2 intro as a altezza placeholder in DTM race! And in GT2 is a Nissan Primera Rm Placeholder! The Famous C-Class Touring Car! :)

(Also the Alfaromeo 155 is Called Touring Car, but is DTM Model - i Think for Copyrights problems)

Sounds like the SSR5 used in the visual demos of GT2000. Considering that the Seattle Circuit used in GT2000 is named Seattle2000, and also knowing that SSR5 is mentioned as highway in the game files, this is highly possible.
I do wanna check what it is, but how?

Now I don't have time to check the circuits.. A friend gave me the Test Drive Demo Disc but I'm busy on real stuff to check there unfortunately...

I can give you the two track files and you can try to swap them to another demo or in the final GT2

EDIT: Can someone please help me how to edit the screen menus in GT mode? I would love to have different background menus.. They are in .Dat files probably.. But I dont know how to open them

I would hope so. Their is a chance it may have no effect at all and it may be just cosmetic, but I guess we won't know til we try! :)

So I guess that means porting demo tracks to their final versions retains the AI paths? I wonder if the AI paths are in separate files honestly.

EDIT: Here's a video of Tahiti Safari Course with the correct skybox.
I like how you used Spyro music for that video! :P Unfitting, but I love it!

Xenn contacted me on PSN recently, I need to try and get him to come back on here since a lot has developed in his threads and this one lately.

EDIT: So Rivit tried porting Seattle 2000 and this was the result.

Does it still crash?

Thanks.

So far, I think it only works for some tracks. When I ported the beta TDR3 for instance; the AI wouldn't be able to drive along the course.

Oh man, I'm slow when it comes to these things. I thought he was playing on the demo when he recorded that, I didn't know that he was playing the retail GT2 when I saw that.

EDIT: I have News, MMRivit figured out how to port cars from the demos. It turns out that demo file headers don't match the models in the final game. So, with the use of a Hex Editor; he fixed it. Also, look at the car he ported!

UUUH! The Beta racing modification of the Nismo GT-R LM :embarrassed:

Can't wait to port the Shelby Daytona Coupe..

Which is actually from GT1 and formed the basis of the 1997 Zexel GT-R JGTC in GT2. ;)

We should also probably port the demo Civic 3door SiR-II too (Tahitian Green > Lausanne Green), but doing that risks losing the rims. Perhaps we should look into editing the textures (sounds difficult)?

Can somebody ask to Xenn how to open the backgrounds menus like race mode, ecc.. on GT mode?

EDIT: Xenn could do it.. He did with the beta arcade graphics AND data transfer so should be possible...

SonyGamer445.. Can you ask him for me, please?

Since car porting is possible now, I thought of somethings that should be worth looking into:

1. Porting cars with multiple colors in the demo to a car that has only one in the final. In example, the Ford GT 90 RandomCarGuy17 posted earlier fromthe demo.

2. Porting car specs to body only cars. For example, we know there are some cars in the PAL and Japanese versions that have the proper specs in those versions, but default to the RX-7's specs in the NTSC version. We should try fixing that now with some of these cars and any other body only cars missing their specs.

And I know their was more I had in mind. Eventually I am going to try this myself and see what I can do. I think these 2 things are worth looking into.

I have been trying to get a hold him lately, but he hasn't answered.

Also, let me remind you guys that discussing how to get ISO images is against the AUP in accordance to this thread:
