Sebastien Vettel challenge: all gold

i am thinking of buying logitech gt, actually i will buy it for these challenge

I've golded Suzuka and Monza (Nurburgring already on Gold) last Friday on a Logitech G27. it actually helped me a lot to pull the Powerplug from the Logitech after Calibration.

This way you've got no response from the car "in your hands", you can just rely on what you hear from the tires. It was pretty much memorising which corner you have to take at which speed and how far to yank the wheel.

I don't wanna know what forces I would have had to overcome to yank the wheel about 180° in a split second with a working force feedback.

To be honest, it took me about 10 hours for Nurburgring and another 10 hours for Suzuka to get gold (I guess that's why i'm not a professional racedriver). Reading it was the easiest track, I decided to do Monza last. I was so stressed out after another 4 hour session on Suzuka, I cut the chicanes on Monza REALLY BAD and managed to get gold in some minutes.

Oh yeah, I was using SRF=on for the first time ever in GT5. I've golded everything else on A-Spec (Races up to Level 30 + Specials and Licenses) without SRF, until the X1 Challenge. I guess I was to impatient after some hours of trying and reading that SRF=on would help. Well, it did the job.

The whole Challenge was way more tougher for me than Mission 34 on GT4.

I used manual for gold. But I used automatic for a lot of time at the beginning, because I just kept hitting the rev limiter in manual. I think it makes very little difference in this challenge to use automatic or manual.

Wow, all respect to you then! Do you believe gold is at all possible without skid recovery? At least now, I know not to give up until I have silver.

Yes it is! 👍
I did it a few days ago now and had no AIDS with the exception of ABS on 1. I was like you and believed it was impossible without SRF but decided to try leaving it off and turning the FF on my DFGT from 10 (my normal setting) to 1 (minimum) and believe it or not that made a huge difference! :)
I went from having 3 silvers with FF on 10 to having 3 golds with FF on 1 and I don't have proof but I have no reason to lie about it.

My advice is to those with a DFGT; TURN FF TO MINIMUM AND TRY. I could not believe the difference 👍 cornering precision with it down was so much better allowing more optimal racing lines and faster steering response. :sly:

WOW, bronze Suzuka, Silver Monza, Silver Nurb'.

Been hammering Nurb' for gold for three hours or more.
.100 off :mad: then couple of attempts later .010 off :banghead: nearly poured coke into ps3.
Finally a 2:07.978 auto, SRF, ABS 5.👍
Manual is too busy for me but I feel I will have to use it to gold 'zuka.

I have massive respect for anyone who has got all golds no matter what aids they use. This challenge is insane!
I spent an hour on Monza first without completing the challenge once. Then the first time I complete the two laps I got gold (with some cheeky chicaine cutting!). Then I went to the nurburgring and managed to get a solid bronze of 2:12 on my first completed run which took about half an hour. The least said about Suzuka the better but ive at least bronzed it.

Just went back to the nurb and got silver. Really dont know how much more I can squeeze out of my laptimes there! Dont even wanna think about trying Suzuka again...

I will get all gold one day!

Came within six hundredths of Gold at Suzuka, made a tiny mistake in the 2nd lap at Casio, but tiny mistakes cost a lot of time in this car due to the mass acceleration and grip it has. Really frustrating though when you spend over 2 hours on it (again) and get that close. I don't like the Nurb GP track, so that'll be fun.

Bloody hard.

Well done on Nurb... the hardest one for me 👍

I think manual will help you if you can get the feel.

There are a couple of places where a quick downchange 1 extra gear will help you reduce turn-in understeer... I used a very brief down change to 2nd in turn 2 and degner 2 with an immediate change back to 3rd and hard on the gas once I felt the car was going to make the apex.

In addition, does auto use 1st at the hairpin? If not then I think you'll be losing some time there... you really want to use 1st for the fastest exit.

If you stick at it I think you'll pick up the change points relatively quickly... the main challenge is the multiple down changes for turn 1 and Casio... once you get in to the habit of pulling the downchange paddle the right number of times it will become 2nd nature and you'll be fine.

What I did is take the X1 to Suzuka in arcade free run and run 20 laps... by the end of it I'd got the change points nailed.

If it's of any consolation to all you controller users, having a wheel does not make this challenge a cake walk. I have a Force pro wheel and the paddles cannot downshift fast enough a great deal of the time. Another thing is the mounting clamps come loose from all the flailing around like an idiot you have to do to get the wheel turning fast enough. You've got to bolt everything down including the coffee mug.

That being said, I will carry on like most and get that last gold at Suzuka so I can claim my "you can drive like a complete moron" prize cars.

Have a question , do you use Manual or Automatic gears ?

Automatic can do it for gold - it did for me. I don't doubt manual being faster at the end of the day but I really may not have had enough thinking capacity left for shifting during full speed runs. The only real disadvantage of automatic is the very low (less than 150 km/h :D) end of the speed echelon as it usually wants to keep the car in the second gear while shifting down to the first would give better acceleration.

i dont know if getting all golds on DS3 is possible, on wheel (dfgt) its only a matter of time until you do get all golds.
Getting golds on this challenge is hands down the hardest challenge iv come across in any GT game.

Kudos to all that golded the Vettel challenge - driving aids on or off, it's a handful. I grinded my way to level 30 yesterday and when I started the challenge I was expecting something like souped up Formula Gran Turismo. I should've known better... I was blown away! The car's blistering acceleration, top speed and sheer amount of grip around corners are not comparable to anything else.
But to tame it... I had beginner's luck at Monza and bronzed it in my third attempt (it's nice straight track and I also cheated at chicanes :yuck:) but at Nurby and Suzy I was struggling even to stay on track for 2 laps. After an hour or so I got better, but still nowhere near bronze. And my DFGT (not to speak about my shoulder muscles) was really hot from all the quick turns. So, that's my experience so far on X2010.
I still have to shave approx. 4 seconds from my lap times (both at Nurby & Suzy). Any advice? My main problem is keeping fluidity. I use DFGT (FF=1), skid recovery on, traction control = 1, ABS = 1, other aids off.
I guess I just need to practice for few more days and taking it easy as the learning curve for this car is steep and you must master it slowly - more trough gradual osmosis than bursts of forceful training. I really like the car and don'n want to start hating it because of repetition.

A little update, if anyone cares: I bronzed Nurby & Suzy yesterday and now have fighter pilot on wheels in my garage. :) Nurb' took me about an hour, driving a lot of laps, slowly shaving tenths of seconds from my lap times. There was a completely different story with Suzy to my surprise - it took half an hour and I bronzed it the first time I actually managed to finish two consecutive laps - all my previous attempts ended spinning out of track. Now I am a proud owner of X2010! But my appetite got bigger so I'm going to try win silver.
And a big thanks for tip Xouved: turning traction control off while skid recovery is still on really helps.

Congratulations on the X1. :)

I'm glad to see that the setup worked for you although, I won't take responsibility for that as I came across that tip somewhere else, but nevertheless.

Oh and I only have Suzuka left... :) ... With a DS3... :(

Golded both of them last night quite quickly after re-trying. Did a 2'09.590 at Suzuka and was .3 slower than my fastest opening lap. Nurburgring I did within about 20 minutes, a 2'07.734 iirc.

Only a matter of time? Absolutely not. Joe Average won't get gold no matter how much time he puts in because he is, well, average. It takes either a good driver and a lot of luck or a very good driver to get those three golds.

I've just ordered the DFGT for this challenge, moehahahaha I was sick of reading that gold was impossible with a DS3!

I'll reach lvl 30 tonight, give it a few tries with the ds3, and tomorrow, i will have them gold with my DFGT 👍

You shouldn't have given up just because everybody who haven't even seriously tried said it's impossible w/ DS3. Well I'm sure driving with a wheel will be a lot of fun, good luck!

Just golded them, took about 3 hours non-stop. Monza and Nürburgring were fairly easy but Suzuka took twice as much effort as the other two.

Used G27.

Even with a wheel, getting silver/gold at Nurburgring and Suzuka was still ridiculously hard. I managed to silver Nurburgring and Suzuka with the DFGT, after hours of frustration, whilst I managed to gold Monza pretty easily due to cutting chicanes being easy. I probably won't go for Gold on Nurburgring and Suzuka, since I have already handled enough frustration of that challenge for a while.

DFGT Wheel
TC = off
ABS = 3
SR = On
AS = Off

Without a doubt, the X1 challenge is the hardest thing I have ever done in a video game. Neon-orange X1 wasnt the ideal colour I would go for, but its still nice. Not to mention I now know Nurburgring and Suzuka inside out, lol

Wow, could you post your split times, I would just like to know where I am losing most time...I can't tell the exact times from the video.

I'm determined to get golds on this challenge as soon as I get to level 30. I've got the DS3 and i've heard how ridiculously hard it is, but it must be possible. They wouldn't make a challenge which is impossible to do on the controller. The hardest thing will be getting used to the speed of the car I can imagine.
