This patch has shocked me. After 2 laps of spa in a GT3 car I am definitely coming back to this game! It feels like a completely different game. for the first time I actually feel like I can attack corners and make small adjustments to hold a good line on straightaways. It actually feels like I'm in control of the car for the first time ever :P

What? You weren't hoping for a horns collection, museum card trivia about Japanese cars from the sixties or a livery editor with badge-chips and paint-chips that you can only use once?

And B-Spec! Don't forget B-Spec! :sly:

Anyway, I am looking forward for 1.02 to go live here so that I can test if the high speed freeze issue is fixed. It's the only problem I have with the game and if it is fixed I can finally enjoy Nordschleife! :D

I need the patch. SMS is UK based, we should get it 1st :)
EA is American, unfortunatly... Why dont SMS work for codemasters... they would truly make an epic game together, maybe Grid 2

What has being American or being UK based got to do with anything? It's Sony that is shafting you guys not SMS or EA! Dont you realize it's out in Europe for the 360?

Any news about UK patch release?? I've tried looking at official forums but after seeing the state of it... Can't wait for it, i was all hyped up about the game when I've got it, then disapointed and now im hyped again. Well have to wait then. (never tought that GT5 will end up as a pass time when waiting for a NFS game patch :embarrassed: )

Sony? What has Sony have to do with it? isnt the patch on EA servers?

You know, I have never checked...

But I bet it's on Sony's Servers. Sony (and Microsoft for the matter) want to keep their game-networks like walled gardens so they can have absolute control (well... Sony's garden is burned to the ground right now but let's hope they will fix it soon). And for patch distribution this actually makes sense. If EA and any other developer was able to release a patch, there could be less tight quality control and an abundance of subsequent patches that would cause customer frustration. Right now I bet the developer finishes the patch, sends it to Sony which runs a final quality control test, signs it and puts it online on a network (independent from PSN) for clients to download.

I could be wrong though....

Anyway be a little more patient. I bet it will soon go live... ;)

I had an update earlier for the patch on the Xbox and ever since ive updated it my Fanatec GT2 has become really stiff in turning with the same settings i used before the patch, is this maybe because the default settings are now good enough and dont require adjustments? Also has anyone else had a similar problem?

Been playing all morning and the changes from this patch still amaze me.

Its like a different game. Now that all the quirky unpredictable control inputs have been eliminated/fixed. Example (Input lag, wheel setting inconsistencies, FFB problems, physics problems, glitches and freezes)

You can now really get a sense of how how great the physics engine is under all that over the top sensory bombardment.

This patch brings me to a conclusion...

Shift 2 is now litterally GT5 on roids.

It has all the great points that defines a good sim racer then makes all those individual points take a shot of steriods.

Tires don't just screech...they cry like little girls after you take away there twisty cone!

You don't just hit the wall...you crash into the wall and leave your soul imprinted in the cement.

Engine don't just rev...they bark and back fire, they **** black stuff all over your opponents windshield.

Cars don't just shine...they make boys dream, girls scream, and James May "root thingy" tingle!

If you have trouble making a lap at the NRing in GT5 with a Zonda R without crashing...whether it be from over energetic wheel spin, late braking, wrong turn in timing, lawn mowing, or curb clipping....guaranteed you will have the same trouble and the same mistakes making a lap at the NRing in Shift 2.

The only difference is now instead of your Zonda's headlight magicaly morfing into a new shape as you carry on unharmed to the next turn. Your Zonda now (Shift 2) will crash, flip and explode into a million tiny carbon fiber pieces then rain all over the grass as you stare...speechless at your TV screen and press "play agian".

Lmao! 👍

Platform: X360, elite handling, no assits, hard AI
Wheel: Fanatec 911 Turbo S and clubsport pedals hard mounted to a playseats evo.

Sadly the patch seems to have made no difference what so ever to me. Not that I though it was terrible before this latest patch but:

1) The wheel is still pulling left and right on the straigts. This makes it unecessarily hard to place the car with the degree of precision I require and leads to some unplanned off track excursions.
2) If you restart a race a few times the force feedback is still prone to cutting out at the start, pausing and unpausing the game will restore it.
3) Collisions with the AI, no matter how minor the contact, still result in your car spinning widly out of control nine times out of ten. This is probably my main gripe with the game as there is nothing more frustrating then a minor tap of the car in front ending your race as you get spat into the barriers.

I tried experimenting with a little deadzone on the steering via the game options and noticed that if you set it to 1% and then save it reverts back to 0%. Set it to 2% and switch back and forth between the advanced options and button mappings and it will revert to 1% but keep it at this setting when you save. Don't know if this behaviour was present before the patch. As it was I didn't get on with the deadzone at 1% so have set it back to 0%.

All my testing was carried out in the Falken Tires 911 GT3-RSR at Spa, a combo I'm very familiar with. Force feedback strength has remained the same pre and post patch 2. It did notice it get stronger after the first patch. Yes I tried reseting the wheel options to default, exiting the game, going back in and changing them back, restarting the game again etc.

My in game settings for the wheel are as follows:

Seems like the Xbox and PC users were more pleased with the v1.01 patch than the PS3 users. With this v1.02 patch maybe more was done for the PS3 users.
Has made a HUGE difference on the PS3.

360 patch
Every since I downloaded this patch the game is all screwed up!! I just brought the game and a fanatec gt2 and been playing like since I got it Tuesday. I am still getting used too the game and the wheel so I have tOo restart often. Now since patch if I restart I lose force feedback and have too press pause and all of a sudden it comes back. I usually restart and average of 10 times every race cause I suck. Now everytime i do I lose force feedback it's so annoying and pissing me off! This never happened before patch.

Can some one start a race and crash and Restart the race and see if you lose ffb.

+1 👎

Fanatec PWTS w/CSP here also - I'm really disappointed that FFB issues weren't fixed properly on the XBOX version with latest patch as it works great on PC now.

In fact FFB is much WORSE on XBOX after the latest patch - I literally have to pause / unpause or power off my wheel after every career race now to get FFB working properly again as it drops most of the time after each race (it's usually either too heavy or completely loose with no center spring).

Just getting FFB working properly at all when starting up the game is a PITA now as I have to go through several iterations of power on XBOX, power up wheel in 900 Degree setting, then launch game, check wheel settings to make sure it's not set at 270, run quick race and test, pause / unpause, power off or start over if FFB is not working correctly.

If I get into any collisions online, I lose FFB also....

I have to agree that this game, after 1.02, is leaps and bounds better than GT5. The physics engine in this game truly is incredible. I'm using a DFGT and it never has been more fun than when I patched this sucker and fired up my zonda. Seriously, this is truly a stunning game and after patching, really is a standout in the genre. Like the 1 poster said earlier, GT5 pumped full of dianobol! PS3 version, PSN- maverick26290

Im beggining to think its Sonys fault - the patch not being released in Europe their biggest GT5 client. because the Xbox has it everywhere... probably will only be up when PSN is back up again... because everybody knows that GT5 biggest advantage is the online since the offline mode itself is boring and more than dead... so they delay the patch in Europe so that most of the average racing gamers cant realize that Shift 2 in fact much more fun and a much better game than GT5... because that would probably help kill the series... But to me GT is already dead and this just makes want to have a xbox more than before...

I bet the patch will be up a few hours or days after the PSN restore their services.

In other words we will not get the patch until GT5 players are playing back online and miss the reports of how brilliant Shift 2 is after being patched... :(

So the patch has come to US first this morning... It was almost noon here After I see the OP if I remember correctly.

Give it 24h around the globe and in about 8h we'll have it here.

If not, I'll... I'll... keep waiting :D

What I really wanted though was that DLC... :(

The world really isn't all about conspiracy theories and paranoia.

You give everyone at Sony, EA, or wherever way too much credit for putting thought and strategy into something that is just another routine item for them. Have you ever worked for a major corporation? Stuff like this gets delayed for the most boring reasons - Johnny the IT guy has mandatory training to complete, Jimmy the server guru is on vacation, Cindy the VP has to give her stamp of approval but is in meetings, etc.

Nobody is sitting there going "If we delay it a week then GT5 will RRRRUUUUULLLLEEEE the world!!!!" :mischievous::mischievous::mischievous:

Really - to the guys running these servers and loading on these updates this is just another ticket for them to close, and the next one in line could be for some football game or shooter.

This is so true. And a month is nothing... I've seen things delayed for almost 2 years :ill:

PS: hell GT5 took 6 :D

That sucks bud! I hope that when you wake up the patch is up where you live, It really is a game changer. I spent a good 4 hours this morning and another 3 this afternoon just lost in the game after the patch.

The few members who are having issues with the new patch are just fighting there own battle. Especially the Fanatec user who have to deal with the Fanatec wheel settings and then the in game wheel settings. Which seems to be botching there expierience.

There is no doubt....If you have a logitech wheel (DFGT or G series) and have updated to patch v1.02. Shift 2 litterly becomes a new game.

i've done one race with the new patch, and already i feel like i need to go back through the rest of the races to set better times. it feels so much better already.

The biggest issue i had with Shift 2 was that it always felt like a white-knuckled ride. You never felt in control. Not so anymore. Granted i am in a R32 Skyline, but it does feel so much more in control and smooth.

This game is turning into something awesome.

Very well put! Couldn't agree more.

Well, all that positive feedback is getting me itching...:dopey:
I hope it gets here(Europe,no one here has it, right?) pretty soon, hopefully tomorrow...💡

BTW, Why does it always have to be S2U vs GT5 or FORZA or any thing else...?!:grumpy:
Can't people enjoy one game without bashing the other?!:indiff:
On top of all in a GT Game Forum?!

No.

Simply because thats like saying why does it have to be Evo Vs. Sti, or Red Sox Vs. Yankees, or Ford Vs. GM, or Turbo vs. V8, or Boxers vs. Breifs, or Canadians Vs. Bruins, or Blonde vs. Brunett...

Here In the United States atleast...rivalries are the building blocks for all good things.
