Yes, but it drops later as if when you really lose the steering instead of losing the front just because. Plus you get a stronger FFB. So I 'd say its a welcome improvement and one that add to realism. No car has grip "ad aeternum".

At least its the way it works for me. Also, the floating feel to cars is greatly reduced with Lotus Exige S the being the very first example. I can beat it 5 times in a row with hard AI after the patch ( I could've done more tries but i got bored :D)

I myself am noticing no increase in FFB after restoring my settings. It feels exactly the same as it did prior to the patch for me.

Even if the FFB was dropping later when you lose the front end, now that we've seen how good the patch can actually make it, we're still just accepting something less than what it could actually be. Hopefully they can patch the patch now and fix the FFB loss issue with the Logitech wheels.

After reading all problems that PS3 users a re facing here, I decided not to run update patch until PSN gets on and we *probably* get 2nd part of the update.

If I understood well, at this point we have these problems:

> Limited Edition owners *may* face deletion of LE content when installing the patch and can not retrieve it
> force feedback on Logitech wheels gets messed up and *may* become unusable
> still no patch for $$$ issue on higher XP levels
> still no patch for actual Tuning (not upgrading) and correspondent sliders/numerical values issue

yes i can confirm the first two points:
- you can lose the events but not the cars than are hidden, what i mean is that the LE cars disappear from your garage after the patch but if you buy a car of the same manufacture they come back. My case: i lost giulietta, i bought an 8c and i got back in the garage the giuletta as it was before the patch with all the upgrades, the tune saved and the livery. Then just to try i bought a nissan and a lambo and i got the silvia and the murcielgago of the LE. While the events are gone, they also removed the badges of this events from the profile even if they still count in total amount, i have 90 badges but like 20 of them form LE events are gone but still counted.
- you install the patch and the wheel doesn't have any improvement, if you reset the settings of the wheel to get the improvement of the patch you'll get it but only for the first race of the game. If you pause and restart or exit and go to another race you'll loose all the ffb, i mean all, there hardly no more ffb, just the " vubration" over the curbs. Is like running a wheel without ffb and the degree is fixed to 900.

Indeed. I was so happy when I read here that when you reset your wheel setting to default the ffb was fixed. And so it was for (as you say) the first race

Great ffb, very heavy feel to the wheel which is how I like my ffb to be

Now, I said to myself, this game gets great. Sadly, after quitting and moving on it was gone. Back to the floppy, wishy-washy ffb as before :(

Sigh...

ps. How can this happen? Really, I'm puzzled :ill:

Same here, I chose not to update for now as I have both a DFGT and the Limited Edition. Hopefully these issues disappear with the second part of the patch.

Its a great game but really SMS/EA starts to really get on my nerves with the whole mess of FFB WTF/freezes/content and prizes diappearing/bugs.

I want to play the freakin game without having to worry all the time if my FFB works or I ll lose this or that or if I m going to fast and it will freeze etc. And I have been quite lucky with only 5-6 freezes, all my prize money and LE content still there. But the hairs on my neck stand up when I read the horror stories here.

This starts to really ruin the fun for me. The really frustrating part is that all these things should have been erased in the quality testing prior to the release. As it is, I consider this game broken and will not touch it again until patch 1.02 corrects these things. :grumpy:

I know I'm not adding anything new - but in the hope that it adds to weight of other voices and leads to SMS resolving the problem.

PS3 with DFGT - great ffb for first event after starting and then pretty weak for every event afterwards. I can feel that it is more varied and subtle than before (depending on car and tuning) but just not strong enough. The game has lost the physicality it did have before the patch where I felt like every moment was a crucial one. I hope that Shift2 does not become another sterile "driving" game rather than the exciting "racing" game it was before the patch.

I would uninstall and start again but with PSN being down I fear that not only will I lose the LE but also the EA online pass - sorry if that last comment stirs up uneccesary paranoia.

i don't think you can lose the online pass, it should be connected to the id once activated.

For controller users the patch seems to have improved things nicely. I find it's now much easier and accurate to control untuned cars (e.g. loaners) with my HKS Racing Controller. Even the Exige Invitational challenge was quite easy all of a sudden.

If you're not using a wheel, I highly recommend installing the patch!

GOOD NEWS

Not all hope content is lost.

Before you guys ask, yes. I had to FUP :D I can't avoid it...

So I went and delete the patch again and guess what. The LE was gone (the cars only gone visually but workarounds are known - select them in "Quick" menu or but a car from the same manufacturer and they appear show again in the "Garage" and you can race/tune/customize them at will.

Now, what about the LE. For those who have a backup (mine was already done with patch installed but they're just settings so I guess it doesn't matter) do the following (nothing to loose trying)

- MAKE A BACKUP NONTHELESS. This is because at least you don't have to go through the career again.

- uninstall patch
- uninstall game
- leave the game data file (if you remove it you'll have to restore it later so its one less step)
- install game (it'll find the patch, say YES)
- go drink a coffee
- when the game boots the LE events should be there.
- The tunes I had, are still there (no visual glitch or slider problem or whatever)
- The data for events/races are all there too

Notes:

- the cars won't show in the garage but are there (read above for workarounds)
- the full FFB is there for the 1st race. After that still better than before patch but you already know that.
- yeah you'll lose time but hey, its all for greater good - read racing (except for muscle events... :yuck:)

I sincerely hope this works for you guys otherwise I had all this trouble for nothing.

I really don't notice much difference on the PS3 with a DFGT after the patch. The force feedback might be a little better, but it's really hard to say because the more I play the game the more I become accustomed to it. Happily all my cars still seems to be there.

I had the same feeling until I reset the wheel settings to default then the new FFB kicked in and I find it much better... and no more clucking noise also.

Yeah, the FFB was fantastic after resetting the wheel settings. Well, the one time trial I did after I reset them, then the FFB went to hell every race after.

I'd do some of the tricks I've seen on here to try to remedy it (especially the ones that RomKnight has posted), but I might just wait until a second patch comes. I have to beat MGS: Peace Walker anyway. :D

After the patch i did notice a small difference in the feel of the ffb then i reset the advanced settings as posted on this site and now ffb is much weeker while driving but i have noticed that the ffb when touching a ripple strip is greatly increased so to me it seems the ffb strength is higher than before but only when you touch the ripple strips the rest of the time it is far to weak ,i think the base amount of ffb needs to be increased a bit to improve the overall feel through the wheel, the loss of ffb seem to have been fixed but that seems to be because it isn't there to loose i the first place (ffb can't drop out if it isn't there to start with).

I tried the suggestions - delete the patch and game then reinstall everything - but not change: strong ffb for first race then weak ffb afterwards (although it is less on/off than before the patch). As above - it baseline ffb needs to be doubled at least.

All this uninstalling and reinstalling reminds me of PC gaming and not what I want with console gaming. That and the onging PSN problems and most studios not using the PS3 to its full advantage is making me reconsider going back to PC gaming.

They should test patches before releasing them, it's incredibile that they don't even notice a stuff like that, they don't even notice that pausing and restating vanish the ffb. I don't know what the hell they tested.

^^ they should also test games before they release them....ho hum :P

It's often more economical to release a half-tested game and patch them later on - QA is actually extremely expensive if done right. Players report bugs for free.

I wrote that in my last post. I've yet to find a way to restore full FFB at all times... if such a thing its possible.

OK - I've deleted the patch and not re-installed it. I've lost the LE events (but I hadn't got around to trying them anyhow) but I prefer the pre-patch ffb - it makes me realise how much I rely on strong FFB and sense when the car is approaching the edge when driving fast. Maybe when PSN is back the LE will reapear. I also hope that the second part of the patch fixes things; and if it does not it won't be needed to use the legends DLC (so wanting to try the Escort, Cortina and Capri).

Thanks for your input RomKnight.

Complete QA seems to be a rare thing when it comes to video games at the moment (probably too expensive as mentioned above). The only new release game I have played recently that seems to have been tested and bug free is Portal2.

Saying all that - I have just had a good few hours of fun and exicting racing in Shift2 (using the pre-patch game) - getting closer to beating the time-attack challenge in a works spec Ecsort.

What wheel do you use and have you changed the settings wheel to default?

G27 and yes. And then I also lost LE content but I got around that. See my post on previous page.

@jamiebird

I prefer the FFB post patch. Anyway, the LE events (except muscle for me) are cool and deserve a try.

You can try my procedure on previous page without the patch. Should work the same. Anyway, the worst case is the game staying as you prefer it but with LE content (cars and events)

I find it pretty bogus that this patch-not-really-a-patch-but-to-allow-us-to-charge-you-for-something-that-should-be-in-the-game-for-free-patch hasnt really fixed anything and just adds issues. Some people are saying that the things they have noticed may just be placebo effects, or from learning to adapt to the game.
Its also ironic that the patch that is supposed to allow for the DLC has messed up the first lot of "DLC" for some people.

At least we play for one race (every time we load the game) with great FFB...

Yes, but Im affraid Im going to ruin my blueray for booting the game so many times... and sometimes I boot it just to be squashed by the AI on the first turn and have to restart the race and loose the strong FFB:scared::guilty:

After restoring my settings, I've noticed one more thing. I used to have to add a 1% deadzone, and change the steering lock to 360 for any event in which a loaner car was used. Now that I've used the patch, then restored my settings, I no longer need to do this. Turning the steering lock down seems to give me very weak FFB. But if I just leave it where I normally do at 560, the cars feel fine.

This seems to be the only significant change I can feel since I downloaded the patch and restored my settings.
