Should GT6 include cockpit view when 95% of players don't use it?

I certainly think they should expand on the cockpit view. I for one like the total sim experience with no lap timer or anything else on screen. If you could see both side mirrors the cockpit view would be absolutely perfect, except maybe making the windshield slightly easier to see out of.

Yes they should. A racing game without cockpit view, I will not buy. GT6 better be perfect or me= no buy.

I like what you said about wanting it to be perfect. However, I'm sure it will be a fairly large upgrade from GT5, so I will most likely purchase the game no matter what.

12 cars with great cockpit views (in my humble opinion) if you set your screen size to 100% in game:

(P) Ferrari F10
(P) R10 TDI Race Car 06
(S) 2J Race Car 70
(P) McLaren F1 94
(P) Ferrari 330 P4 Race Car 67
(S) Caterham Seven Fireblade 02
(P) Jaguar XJ13 Race Car 66
(P) Toyota Celica GT-Four Rally Car (ST205) 95
(P) Shelby Cobra 427 66
(P) Lamborghini Miura P400 67
(P) Art Morrison Corvette 60
(P) Acura NSX 91 (not race modified)

As I just saw the trailer for Grid 2, I'm not surprised by that number. I too don't use cockpit view in arcade racers.

Grid is borderline arcade racing. If it were farther over that border, I'd say it could do without, but where it is, I would still have that as a strike against the game.

I don't use cockpit view in GT5. It messes me up when the wheel is on the wrong side, and I need the best view possible to make sure cars don't sneak into an area of the track that I'm planning on using. I certainly expect it to be in the game though. If GT6 is to continue down the path of being *the* encyclopedia of cars, it will need that. Heck, it needs cockpits to have any hope of keeping up with even the most budget of PC racing sims.

Drive with cockpit view and no HUD makes for the best experience up do date in any racing/driving game on PS3 platform.

Add night racing/driving at Nurb and bingo, even better.

Those who miss cockpit view are losing part of this game´s soul, I understand that for online racing could be slower, but for hot lapping or offline racing this is the way to go.

Life cycle of this thread:

OP->Discussion->People realize it has nothing to do with GT->Hate->Dead Topic->More people find it->Discussion->People realize it has nothing to do with GT...

This has happened at least three times.

To be fair CM came up with the poll but I think it would be fair to say that most people stick with the same view, if available across all games.

I mean I wouldn't go cockpit in one game and chase in another or bonnet.
Dependant upon options available I would prefer cockpit and would stick with that across all games. Same could be said if I liked bonnet cam.

I think this survey ( if it ever happened at all ) applies to more than just grid 2.

Well, as said before Grid 2 supposedly had a very bad cockpit view.

But I do agree with you. I always use chase cam, no matter what game I'm playing.

I would be very disappointed if they removed the cockpit view. It is how I always like to race, and with the PSEye I have no problems with people trying to overtake because I just turn my head and see them in my mirror.

In fact, there should be an option online for cockpit view only. Any other view is just not simulation and GT5 sells itself as a simulator, not saying all the fake views should be done away with, just saying the cockpit view is crucial to the game makers claims.

Mind you, I am actually a real driver anyway... I find it harder driving in the other views, I don't drive whilst sitting on the bonnet of my car, or magically flying above my vehicle with a some sort of remote control or telekinetic device, I drive sitting behind the steering wheel, I find it easier driving in GT5 the proper way.

As for the OP, Like you I don't drive my car looking at the dash... but I don't race in GT5 looking at the dash neither.

Does the ps eye work online? I thought it was arcade mode only, has it been patched.

I am sure it does if I remember, but if you looked at my PSN you find it mysterious that I have not raced online for a long time. No internet for ages, currently using work internet and only 3G/Edge in my house :( If not, then certainly in the offline mode and then using L3 for viewing the mirrors for online. I had to master that before myself an Eye. lol

I have tried these other views, I just cannot accept them, realism goes out of the window. I have been erroneously accused of being snobbish for refusing to use the standard cars for that reason, it was god send for me when they put those dash siloettes in.

they mean 95% of people dont like the simulation feel. They should keep the view mostly for real racers. In my mind they should make the steering wheels a little bit cheaper.

It absolutely should have cockpit view in all available vehicles in game. I'm also certain many more people than 5% use cockpit view. Also with just about every other race simulater game offering cockpit views, gt would fall behind. Lastly, without cockpit view, it would not quite give the simulation effect. You cant drive a car from the front bumper, from the roof, and certainly not from 5 feet back off the rear of the car. I wasn't a fan of cockpit at first because it was diifferent from what i was used to (bumper cam). But after getting used to it, its the only view i can or want to use. Just my opinion.

Even then... only 95% of those who knew about the poll which also played Grid, not GT5.

The correct figures for GT5 are probably like this:
95% of gamers use cockpit view 5% of the time.
5% of gamers use cockpit view 95% of the time.

One does simply not never use cockpit view in GT5...

Mr Bean once drove his Mini, sat in a chair on the roof of his car..... Does that count?

Interior view is here to stay, and I think it's bloody brilliant! For those times when I just wanna turn the HUD completely off, and enjoy the world from inside the car, seeing the interior details. It is simply brilliant. Also, any endurance event I compete in gets the same treatment, just for added realism/immersion!

I've reached Level 30 of GT5, did not use cockpit once, so I wouldn't miss it. They should include the second chase camera though, I like to have a clear view of the car along with a decent perspective of the surroundings. Also because I don't like the gauges overlapping the view of the car.

THEY SHOULD DEFINTLY KEEP IT THATS THE BEST PART OF RACING GAMES with out it i can guentee that the gt5 sales will drop 95 % (i use it 24/7) with out cockpit view that alone would be a deal breaker for me

Yeah..no. They might drop but not by anything remotely close to that. It's a moot point anyway as is this entire thread really since it's plainly obvious they're not going to drop cockpit view.

There is no way that GT6 will not have cockpit view. And for good reason.

GT has ALWAYS been about replicating everything in as much detail, and everything other than the standard car idea has followed this motto for the most part.

While I use the bonnet cam, I'd be monumentally pissed if they didn't include the interior view. If they actually drop it, then it will truly be one of the dumbest decisions in GT history.
