Should GT6 include cockpit view when 95% of players don't use it?

When I suggested GT6 to get rid of the Used Car dealership so that we can just buy all cars brand new regardless of year, people said it was a staple for GT, can't get rid of it.

Cockpit views are now a staple, leave it in.

Sounds like someone is sore about something, but it's okay I understand where you're coming from.

As for that Project Cars game see this yet again proves my point PD I don't think they get it the times are not in their favor anymore like it use to be on PS1 and PS2.

Every racing game even if you don't acknowledge Arcade Racers has stepped up since the PS3 came in, and when I look at that Project Cars trailer if some of that was in-game. Then that doesn't help PD at all. Luckily that was on PC most likely though which will always have an advantage over PS3, Xbox 360.

This is pretty much what I mean people going to extremes over little stuff.

Again, it isn't little stuff if it significantly changes the whole gameplay experience (and not just a nice looking option you might occasionally use) and what's extreme about maybe looking elsewhere if something you like and expect isn't offered anymore?

If it were skidmarks or reverse lights I'd agree, that's little stuff which was nice to be added (I actually love how they implemented skidmarks) but it won't be a deciding factor for most, unlike something like cockpit view.
Ofcourse previous GT-games sold well but you have to take into account that people expected and were used to different things then.

If GT5 didn't have cockpit I MIGHT understand an argument not to include it in GT6 but to go to all of that time and trouble making ~200 stupidly detailed cockpits only a complete idiot would say scrap them for the next game just because not everyone uses them. That is probably several realtime months work there, more maybe.

The fact that the DLC generally kept the interior detail at the same level would also suggest it's here to stay.

I don't think it was ever doubted it would stay, remember the outcry (me included) when it became apparant the Standard cars didn't feature it?
Most could perhaps deal with their inferior graphics if they featured it.

Yes, I recently read here that Forza for example doesn't include it which surprised me to be honest (are the left/right sides modelled though?).
I have to agree that I perhaps could do without the rear view (even though like you I'd really miss it) since on some cars without a rear window it already isn't available and you get used to that instantly.

It's strange: FM4 does have fully-modelled interiors (I was wandering around the interior of the Maserati Q'porte last night), but yes, when racing from cockpit view, you get a semi-bumper-cam rear view when looking backwards. I'm not sure why, though the front 180-degrees of your free roaming view do stay within the car.

It's actually something that sort of bothers me about both games; all this trouble to model the interiors, and only limited ways to view them. In both game's Photo modes, you have to perform a glitch if you want to really explore the interiors. I realize why PD and T10 are so apprehensive about letting us get too close: the quality on the interiors isn't up to the exterior level, and there can be weird polygon disappearances and other hiccups, but I think most users would easily overlook this for the ability to digitally explore the interior of their favourite cars after they've finished pouring over the exterior details. It's why I've become a bit of a fan of the Autovista feature in FM4, since it's pretty clear to me those cars have all been constructed with the next generation in mind, and the fact all doors, hoods, and trunks open is an important detail.

True, I'd assumed the Standards would get the GTPSP-style view. It's another thing we know little about as to why it wasn't included in GT5, and why it still isn't consistently up to the same "standard" as it was in GTPSP (namely: exterior bodywork only visible in arcade-mode replays.) I agree that it is a bit silly to expect it to be removed outright for GT6.

I say that it should be kept. It adds an element of realism that some people really enjoy. To me, it's a neat novelty more than anything, but I still like it. Being able to drive a car using its gauges is cool, instead of using GT5's. One criticism: give the view an HDR effect similar to what our eyes would naturally do, so that the gauges are easier to see in low light. Most of the time, it's very hard to see them.

Apparently the HDR is the way it is due to bandwidth limitations, and is also the reason for the colour banding. Naturally, having extra colour depth per pixel makes the whole screen that much heavier to throw around, so they must use compression of some sort to cope.

One thing that I've noticed with the Scion FR-S is that the gauges are always visible. It could be that car specifically or we could see this happening to all new cars from now on and maybe even an update might change it for every Premium. Anyone have an explanation for this? Is the FR-S just special?

PD should wipe out all views except cockpit view. The reason must people do not use it is because they are slower. Normally by 1 - 2 seconds a lap depending on the track. Force everyone to use cockpit view so everyone is on the same playing field. I can't believe 3rd person is even an option anymore.

While we're at it, force all aids off, only wheel controllers allowed and full mechanical damage everywhere.

Or, you know, you could just leave it as it is, it being a game and all.

Why not also prevent tuning on all cars and make Comfort Hard the only tire option? There is no reason to take a good step BACK from GT5, and improvement is really all that's welcome.

I only use cockpit view and don't drive standards because their version of it is just not good enough. I doubt I'm the only one who prefers this view

No. Just no. Let others play the game how they want and you play it how you want.

That is an interesting way of thinking though. However, it should only apply to games that only have cockpit view. In GRID (since this thread concerns it) you could set it so it locks you in the cockpit. Interesting option.

Well me and you have a difference between what's little vs. big and that's fine because I can't change your mind.

Like for me GT5 career mode was a bigger issue than a cockpit view for the record I've said I like it(cockpit/interior view).

It's just that and I realize this only applies to me before I throw down the controller in anger I'm not going to say well it doesn't have cockpit view. More like the whole game itself is garbage and which in GT5 case it was.

In simpler way it feels like if you just drop the game because their is no interior view you're throwing a tantrum like a little kid.

I'm going to leave it at that, but I'll also add now that interior is here to stay like others have said I doubt they'd go through all that work just to be like "Well we don't want them anymore." Honestly that might piss me off worse than the game itself because all that time spent modeling interiors could have been spent on SOOO much other stuff.

So because 95% of a community of an entirely other game, don't use cockpit view, PD shouldn't include it in their game? Sorry, but that's just plain dumb. Plenty of people use it. I for one, wouldn't bother with the game, if it didn't include cockpit view, as that is the one and only way I drive.

I use cockpit view for single player because its definatly more imersive and fun

When it comes to online i find im quicker using the nose cam, you also get a better rear view mirror and a better view when looking left and right like this, but i have often thought if you could set your online room up so everybody only has the cockpit view to use , so nobody would be at a disadvantage/advantage then im sure you would see a fair few rooms doing it for the imersion factor, i think it would make everything feel much more realistic.

I ONLY play with cockpit view. And should there be headtracking support troughout the hole game, I'd use it as well

Bingo, you get it and i am 100% for it!

Just improve cockpit view and have a filter for multiplayer where you can lock which views are allowed (like tyrechoice). THis could be seasonal event too...only cockpitview allowed..or get extra cash if played through cockpitview and all aids off..

One problem. I race and drift with a wheel and i use hood camera. Reason i use hood view is because while in the in car camera i will end up seeing 2 steering wheels. It isn't really a big deal but the way my rig is set up it is like looking over the wheel and looking at the hood in my truck
