Event #2 / Race #2 Recap

Event #2 - Watkins Glen International
Friday, December 13th, 2024

Preamble:

It's been a busy week with Christmas around the corner so I apologize for keeping you Snails waiting on the recap for our 2nd race of last weekend. I'll try to make it worth the wait.

Lap#1:
Race #2 gets underway with the reverse grid order rule in effect. @DublDee finds himself on pole sharing the front row with @cesarr64 . @radliffracing and @Wetroadracer find themselves on the 2nd row.
SHARE_20241220_0828320.jpeg

@Wetroadracer came into the Bus-Stop for the first time a little too hot on the outside. Some cones went flying and littered the track for most of the race.
SHARE_20241220_0828510.jpeg

@DublDee and @radliffracing got away cleanly. @cesarr64 dropped a couple spots, that means that @CdnSweetTee finds herself in 3rd place, leading the pack.
SHARE_20241220_0829080.jpeg

Lap #4:
The next two pictures taken from the same location at the same point in time. We can see @radliffracing applying pressure to a race leading @DublDee .
SHARE_20241220_0829260.jpeg

And panning the camera to the left 90 degrees, we see @CdnSweetTee leading @JDMKING13 and the rest of the field.
SHARE_20241220_0829460.jpeg

Still on Lap #4:
Just after the previous pictures were taken, @radliffracing made heavy contact with the wall entering Sector #4 causing him to lose speed.

This allowed @CdnSweetTee to move into 2nd place thus providing us with a a moment that will live in the annals of @llNovall 's Snail Series History. We have a husband/wife duo running 1st and 2nd in an official @llNovall Series event.

Unfortunately, the moment would last about 8 seconds as @JDMKING13 got a wicked exit coming out of Turn #11 that would allow him to split the double-guard of @CdnSweetTee and @radliffracing and going from 4th to 2nd spot.
SHARE_20241220_0830040.jpeg

Lap #5:
@radliffracing appears to be rattled. He spins at Turn #1 of Lap #5. Being the classy guy he is, he's conservative re-entering the track and unfortunately would drop to 16th position after additional complications at the following Bus-Stop.
SHARE_20241220_0830250.jpeg

Still on Lap #5:
Now we're having fun. Check this out, probably my favorite picture in our series thus far.

Find yourself a dance partner and put your foot to the floor. We've got side by side battles between @Worst_Driver and @Bologna_Duc . Another side-by-side battle 20 feet back between @Noob01_lmdead and @Buffalo_DRD . And just beyond them, another one between @CodeRedR51 and @Mac1032763 . All heading towards the Bus-Stop.
SHARE_20241220_0830460.jpeg

And on the other side of the Bus-Stop, positions were won and lost but everybody survives to continue their battles.
SHARE_20241220_0831010.jpeg

Lap #7:
By Lap #7, @Bologna_Duc managed to catch up with the group ahead consisting of @socalnatv and @Kgffy . So @Worst_Driver lost his dance partner but the rest of us still going at it.
SHARE_20241220_0831230.jpeg

At the end of Lap#7:
@Noob01_lmdead and @Buffalo_DRD are still door-to-door and battling for the 10th position. I was sad to see @Noob01_lmdead lose a little grip at Turn #1 of Lap #8 and drop a few positions. At the end of the day, we all want decent results but you give me 3 or 4 laps like this in a race and I'm logging off pretty happy at the end of the night regardless of where I finished.
SHARE_20241220_0831410.jpeg

Lap #9:
From the door-to-door battles listed above, the one between @CodeRedR51 and @Mac1032763 lasted the longest to the end of Lap #9, until @Mac1032763 got spinning just as @DublDee did in the first race. Almost triggering the pit-entry sequence.
SHARE_20241220_0831570.jpeg

Lap #13:
At this point, @DublDee is still leading with a decent gap over @THMP . But the battle for 3rd place is now red hot between @JDMKING13 and @llNovall . Another multi-lap battle with several position changes.
SHARE_20241220_0832190.jpeg

Lap #15:
@llNovall and @JDMKING13 are still going at it full throttle and neither of them giving anything away for free. There was a time I was hoping that with their fighting, I might be able to close the gap and get to them but then I had my hands full with @Worst_Driver and @Bologna_Duc hot on my tail.
SHARE_20241220_0832380.jpeg

Still Lap #15:
Same moment in time captured from the previous photo shows exactly where race leader @DublDee and current 2nd place driver @THMP are in relation to the @llNovall / @JDMKING13 battle.
SHARE_20241220_0832560.jpeg

Lap #16:
Still some positions to be won and lost. @Mac1032763 is just wrapping up his 16th lap and @Noob01_lmdead is now side-by-side overtaking @CdnSweetTee to move into 12th spot.
SHARE_20241220_0833110.jpeg

Lap #17:
@DublDee sees the checkered flag. I mentioned I got a chuckle when writing up the Race #1 recap when I saw him almost entering the pits but there was nothing funny about this race. He goes wire to wire for the win while picking up valuable points for himself and for White Knuckle Motorsports.

And really, does anybody deserve it more? I know I can log onto my PS5 on most nights and I see him hosting practice lobbies. Maybe some bad luck struck him early but the right guy won this race.

Event #2 / Race #2 Broadcast:

Final Thoughts:
  • I find the Broadcast part the most difficult. When I review the tape to grab my pictures, I make notes on sequences to capture in the broadcast but there were a lot of close, lengthy, door-to-door battles in this race and I hope I've captured them appropriately.
  • Looking for more racing action as we await Event #3 of this series? Look no further than Snail's Sunday Night Spec League. (I will continue to plug the Sunday League until I see some signups)
  • As it stands, I have a schedule conflict for Laguna Seca on January 10th. I'll hold onto my grid spot for the time being in the event something changes for me but it's likely that a reserve driver will find their way onto the grid. I'll keep you posted as the date nears.
That's how I interpreted Race #2.
Merry Christmas to all.

Hey Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate that! Could’ve had much better results with less mistakes in race 1, but for me the racing in this series makes every event enjoyable regardless of where I finish. Thx again.

Ah drat - I’m rostered for Surf Lifesaving patrol during the next round 😭🏖️🤷🏻‍♂️
I’ll be doing my best Baywatch impression while y’all run laps 👌

Small update: Next round is definately a go (If I already haven't Said so). Also, would like a team name change to "RCR Motorsport", felt it better suited my now official online racing presence for this year.

And one question: Can I practice with others even if I am not officially classified?

Please be sure to include your team name with your livery.

You can practice without classification. Let me know where your optimal/fast lap/avg lap tines are falling in at 650.00pp. I have enough data and feedback for this event to know if your too fast or too slow. Still need you to run the official tt, but that will help too.

Quick challenge for anyone wanting to feel what the new 992 GT3RS is compared to other supercars, try this:
-Take the Ferrari F8 out with SM tires, bone stock and run a lap on the Nurburgring.
-Then take the 992 Porsche 911 GT3RS bone stock on SM for a lap or two. Keepmin mind the hp deficit of the Porsche.

The difference in grip is insane between the two cars, and the lap times will reflect as well.

Amazing car!

100%, yes. Please review and follow the sign up and time trial process. Once completed, simply be among the for 16 to confirm for the next race. If not among the 1st 16 drivers, you would be in a reserve status. But yes, you may absolutely join us. Great to see you again.

Preamble:
The grid for Event #2 is set. The only change to the driver roster from Event #1 is @Fudman420 is out due to a schedule conflict. He was replaced by @THMP

Qualifying Table:

@Bologna_Duc took pole position with a blistering 1:51.974. Considering he came into the event with a neutral PP of 650.00 on RH tires, that's a crazy fast time. I spent some time with other drivers in practice lobbies in the weeks leading up to the event and haven't seen a 1:51 until about an hour prior to @llNovall 's lobby opening up where I believe I saw @radliffracing put one up on the board. My jaw dropped when I saw that 1:51`s were reachable.

Well done @Bologna_Duc on getting your best lap when it mattered most.

Event #2 / Race #1
And they're off!! - A great T1 by @radliffracing allows him to take the lead from @Bologna_Duc . Another great looking grid.
View attachment 1413443

Lap #1:
As expected, the 1st time through the Bus-Stop was very congested. I got on my brakes a tad late, touched the wall made light contact with @Noob01_lmdead and pushed him wide. I waited briefly and we were both able to get back into it with only a few dropped spots.
View attachment 1413445

Lap #1:
@radliffracing and @Bologna_Duc running 1st and 2nd a little out of this picture. @Mac1032763 , @JDMKING13 @socalnatv , @Kgffy and @DublDee are running nose-to-tail entering Sector 3.
View attachment 1413446

Lap #4:
@Bologna_Duc has regained his lead. He's leading a still tight pack a few turns from the end of lap #4.
View attachment 1413447

Lap #5:
Some slight contact at T1 between @THMP and @Bologna_Duc caused @Bologna_Duc to go a tad wide. He'd re-enter in 5th position. @THMP is leading and there appears to be a little more space between the cars at this point. In the background, @llNovall and @Worst_Driver are engaged in a battle that lasted several laps.
View attachment 1413448

Lap #5:
@socalnatv slightly touched grass on the outside part of the track entering the last turn and caused a spin.
View attachment 1413449

Lap #9:
@THMP led the race from Lap 5 until early Lap 9. Very little daylight is visible between @Bologna_Duc and @THMP in this pic that captures the moment @Bologna_Duc recaptured his lead.
View attachment 1413450

Lap #10:
@DublDee was running in 7th when he lost control at the Bus-Stop. Replay shows that he also got T-Boned by @Worst_Driver during his spin. He'd fall to 15th before he would gather himself.
View attachment 1413451

Lap #11:
An unforced error by @llNovall as he cuts into the Bus-Stop a little too early and touches the wall. He also would lose control would drop to 14th where he'd find @DublDee .
View attachment 1413452

Lap #12:
The Bus-Stop is clearly angry today and claims another victim. This time it's @radliffracing , who is having a great race and just moved into 3rd before getting the Bus-Stop wrong. Being a true gentleman, he let all traffic go by before re-entering the track way back in 16th spot.
View attachment 1413455

Lap#13:
I was going to leave this pic on the cutting room floor but I got a laugh out of it. After their mishaps, @llNovall and @DublDee found each other at the back of the grid and seemed to have a fun couple laps together. But @DublDee came out of the last turn too hot and clipped the outside wall which sent him for a spin down the pit entry l lane. I'm guessing he was a mere couple feet from triggering the pit-entry sequence and had to get creative to maneuver his way out.
View attachment 1413457

Lap #16:
By this time, most groups were a little more dispersed. But there's still some head-to-head battles going on.
@JDMKING13 and @Kgffy are battling for 4th
@Noob01_lmdead and @CodeRedR51 are battling for 8th
And @CdnSweetTee and @llNovall are battling for 11th as shown below.

@llNovall actually passed @CdnSweetTee on the following straight but gave her the spot back before the finish line. My guess is to atone for them having a coming together in an early part of the race. It's stuff like this that I like about SNAIL.
View attachment 1413459

Lap #17:
@THMP was running in 3rd but @JDMKING13 and @Kgffy were right there to take his place if he made a slight mistake. @JDMKING13 was in 4th but @Kgffy (and his controller) put together a fantastic last sector to pass him before the finish line.
View attachment 1413460

Lap #17:
@Mac1032763 always kept himself visible to @Bologna_Duc but in the end, @Bologna_Duc was just too much and never gave up the lead he earned in Lap #9.

Event #2 / Race #1 Broadcast:

Final Thoughts:
  • I'll try to get the Race #2 recap done sometimes in the next several days. It is pretty time consuming.
  • For those that take a peek at the Race Broadcast through the link above, I'm pretty new to that, they should get better with time.
  • Looking for more racing action as we await Event #3 of this series? Look no further than Snail's Sunday Night Spec League.
  • It is best to scroll through these with a tablet or laptop.
That's how I interpreted Race #1
-Niagara

@Buffalo_DRD
Finally had a chance to sit down to read thru your race recaps and watch your broadcasts. Awesome job all around!! So much detail and you captured the battles across the field very well. @THMP and @Bologna_Duc had an outright dogfight for 1st place in R1. That was a very fun watch. And myself and @JDMKING13 had ours in R2.

Again, thank you so much for the effort and time afforded for these re-caps and broadcasts. For anyone that has not done these, they are very time consuming. The time it takes to review the replays, take pictures, and chronicle the details takes a huge effort, and then to go back again to broadcast each race in its entirety....you get the idea. Easily 4-5 hours invested, at least. So when I say how appreciative I am for the efforts, I sincerely mean it. Thanks again sir, and am looking forward to Laguna Seca on Friday.
