Event #5 / Race #1 Recap

Event #5 - Nurburgring GP
Friday March 7, 2025

250307 - Spotters Guide.png

Preamble:

It was a short 2-week turnaround between the events at Mount Panorama and at the Nurburgring GP. I came into the event unsure how prepare I was and was still experimenting with a a few things on the car the day before the race.

The changes to the grid are as follows:

Qualifying Table:
250307 - Qualifying Table 1.jpeg

250307 - Qualifying Table 2.jpeg

Drivers put down some really quick laps in Qualifying with 6 of them getting into the 2:03, including 4 McLarens. But it was @Bologna_Duc 's Corvette that claim pole in this event by edging out @JDMKING13 's McLaren by less than 1/10th of a second. For a few minutes, I thought I might put myself on the front row but @bublyman bumped me out by a mere 0.004.

Chevrolet / @Bologna_Duc become the 1st manufacturer / driver to claim 2 poles this season. McLaren, AMG and BMW each have 1.

Event #5 / Race #1:

LAP #1:
It's lights out at a very overcast Nurburgring. It'll be @Bologna_Duc and @JDMKING13 on the first row and the McLaren's of @bublyman and @Buffalo_DRD on the 2nd row. It's full throttle to the very dangerous Turn 1.
SHARE_20250310_1257090.jpeg

@Bologna_Duc gets off quick and maintains his 1st position. By turn 1, he's completely surrounded by McLaren's as he tried to create a little space for himself. A few small bumps but we did pretty good as a group in making sure we all got away cleanly through this very tight corner.

LAP #1:
Everybody is trying to get themselves into the best possible position as we settle into this race. @DublDee , @radliffracing and @socalnatv are currently 7th, 8th and 9th and are going 3-wide at the start of sector #2. @DublDee is in a tight spot and his right wheels aren't on asphalt therefore putting him in a vulnerable spot.
SHARE_20250310_1257510.jpeg

LAP#1:
By the next corner, @bublyman is already applying intense pressure on @Bologna_Duc . And in the background we see @DublDee head off the track for a spin that would drop him from 7th to 16th.
SHARE_20250310_1257340.jpeg

LAP #1:
Still on lap #1, as we all make our way through the chicane the first time around, it was @Buffalo_DRD 's turn to make a critical error. I was feeling early nerves and clean pressure by @llNovall but a lack of concentration did me in here. Not once in my practices leading up to the race did I spin out here. Too eager on the throttle, lesson learned. I would drop from 5th to 14th position. @llNovall moves into the top 5.
SHARE_20250310_1258090.jpeg

Lap #3 - Lead Change:
@Bologna_Duc does well defending a relentless @bublyman for the first few laps. However @bublyman manages to get by him at the hairpin of lap #3. At this point of the race, @JDMKING13 is in 3rd , @Noob01_lmdead in 4th, @llNovall in 5th and just behind him is @socalnatv in 6th.
SHARE_20250310_0204120.jpeg

LAP #3:
And so the hunted becomes the hunter. Just as @Bologna_Duc felt the early pressure from @bublyman , the roles are reversed and it's now his turn to give chase to @bublyman. Just prior, @Noob01_lmdead managed to pull ahead of @JDMKING13 and into 3rd.
SHARE_20250310_1258260.jpeg

Lap #5:
As I review the replay, 1/3 through the race, it seems that asides from the battle between @bublyman and @Bologna_Duc at the front, most cars have a little separation of about 1.5 seconds between them. The only other close racing is between @llNovall , @JDMKING13 and @socalnatv battling for 4th position currently held by @llNovall .
SHARE_20250310_1258450.jpeg

LAP #7:
At the 2nd half of the grid, @Dragonwhisky is in 9th being chased by @Fudman420 , @Worst_Driver and @Buffalo_DRD . We ran in this order forever it seems. I couldn't quite pull in @Worst_Driver. @Worst_Driver managed to get right on @Fudman420 a few times but couldn't overtake him. @Dragonwhisky was stringing together some consistent, mistake free laps.
SHARE_20250310_1259010.jpeg

LAP #10:
This pic from Lap 10 gives a perspective on the spacing of the cars. After losing his lead back on Lap 3, @Bologna_Duc is still fully engaged with @bublyman exiting the hairpin. And on the right, entering the hairpin, @llNovall has been asking (and getting) a lot out of his BMW. He managed to catch up with @Noob01_lmdead currently in 3rd. @socalnatv is riding in 5th a little further back.
SHARE_20250310_1259170.jpeg

LAP #11:
Towards the back of the grid, @cesarr64 was running in 14th position when we went too deep into the sand which allowed @DublDee to take the position.
SHARE_20250310_1259340.jpeg

Lap #13:
With a little over a lap to go, the grid is still pretty spaced out. But at the very front, (somewhat visible in this pic) @Bologna_Duc is still making @bublyman work pretty hard to keep his lead and @llNovall has not yet given up on trying to get himself on the podium. This has been a pretty hot battle and @Noob01_lmdead has been up to the challenge. On a side note, as soon as our event is complete here at the Nurburgring, track staff will need to replace this post at the chicane because it took a massive amount of abuse Friday night.
SHARE_20250310_1259500.jpeg

LAP #14:
@bublyman sees the checkered flag and can finally take a deep breath. @Bologna_Duc applied a ton of pressure for 11 straight laps and was in a position to reclaim the lead with the slightest of mistakes by @bublyman .

@Noob01_lmdead managed to hold off @llNovall 's lengthy assault on him to finish 3rd and will join them on the podium. @llNovall and @socalnatv fill up the top 5 positions.

Event #5 / Race #1 Broadcast:

Driver of the Race Award:
As I review the replay a few times to pull pictures and to record the broadcast, things stand out to me so I give a shout-out to the following drivers for their performance in Event #5 / Race #1:
  • @bublyman - I have to go with @bublyman for this one. @Bologna_Duc dialed up some intense pressure for 11 straight laps. So much that @bublyman needed to record the fastest lap of the race on lap 13 to fend him off.
Honorable mention to @Noob01_lmdead for the same reason. It's always easier chasing somebody than being chased so managing the lengthy attack by @llNovall shows the time you've spent in practice lobbies leading up to the race paid off.

Final Thoughts:
  • Some pictures might appear dark and I didn't want to over-expose them. It's always better to view them on tablet or PC if one is available.
  • With his win, @bublyman joins @Worst_Driver as the only drivers to win 2 races in this years series.
  • It's McLaren's 3rd win of the season (@JDMKING13 / @bublyman x2). Aston Martin (@Worst_Driver x2) and AMG (@DublDee / @THMP ) each have each have 2 wins while Chevrolet (@Bologna_Duc ) and BMW (@llNovall ) each have 1.
  • Shameless plug for the Snail's Sunday Night SPEC League. While I missed yesterday's action, it looks like there were 11 drivers in D1 and a further 9 in D2. Come join us.
That's how I interpreted Event #5 / Race #1.

We need to get Sebring on GT7. So suprised it hasnt made it to the title with Daytona and Road Atlanta, and the IMSA relationship.

Does anyone watch Australian Supercar racing? Has @MrDonovan ever been?

The last 4 laps of this race are worth watching all the way thru (starting at 11:35mark). Some amazing racing and race craft including the "redress" incident. As I understand it this redress process is similar to what F1 now does where they give teams the chance to make a concession before the stewards step in and assess a penalty. Worth watching all the way to the finish.

Jumped on here today to mention the same thing - omfg the Supercars racing has been excellent this season👌👌

The last few years it’s often been a procession, but this year the cars are close, the stewards are just letting the boys race, and the door to door racing is so good!

They’re doing four sprint races to support the F1 this weekend - the first one in Thursday was phenomenal ❤️

Do yourself a favor, keep up with the series this year 👌👌

I should also mention, I’m lucky enough to live 15min from this track.

They’ve recently started road car Track Nights. I’m definitely taking Mixi for some laps under lights 👌👌

Event #5 / Race #2 Recap

Event #5 - Nurburgring GP
Friday March 7, 2025

250307 - Spotters Guide.png

Preamble:
As usual, Race #2 goes off in reverse grid order. That means we'll see the two Porsches of @cesarr64 and @Wetroadracer on the front row. Right behind them will be the two AMG's of @DublDee and @THMP . The 3rd row will be made of @Buffalo_DRD (McLaren) and @Worst_Driver (Aston Martin).

Event #5 / Race #2:

LAP #1:
The stands are packed with anticipation as the action gets underway in Race #2. A clean turn 1 by @cesarr64 has him taking the lead as @Wetroadracer opts for a safer wide line but will settle nicely in 2nd place.

I'll point out that race stewards were very harsh on @DublDee as soon as the race got started. He does hit the flexible post on the inside of turn 1 and was given a reset to the back of the grid. For what's it's worth @DublDee , I disagree with their decision.
SHARE_20250313_0308380.jpeg

LAP #1:
A wide lens shot shows the grid at the hairpin on Lap #1 in single file as tires are warming up.
SHARE_20250313_0309360.jpeg

LAP #1:
A chain-reaction incident occurred as we went through the chicane on Lap #1. This would cause a few cars to lose spots and speed. But the McLarens of @bublyman and @Noob01_lmdead were the most affected.
SHARE_20250313_0310040.jpeg

LAP #2:
We had the grid's 2 Porsches running 1-2 for a bit but @Wetroadracer came out too wide on the exit of the hairpin on Lap #2. He'd drop from 2nd to last. @Worst_Driver got a great run on @THMP and managed to overtake him and move into 2nd. (these two would swap positions a few times during this race) Meanwhile, @cesarr64 has built a decent little lead for himself in the early phase of the race.
SHARE_20250313_0323390.jpeg

LAP #3:
Some incidental contact between @llNovall and @socalnatv early in sector 2 of Lap #3 caused @llNovall to spin. It looked like @socalnatv tried to straighten him out with the nose of his Corvette but to no avail. @llNovall would fall from 8th to 15th.
We've seen @bublyman and @llNovall fall to the back of the grid at this point in the race. Let's take note of that.
SHARE_20250313_0323550.jpeg

LAP #3:
Some real good stuff from these four at this point. @bublyman just managed a 2 for 1 pass on @Fudman420 and @Mac1032763 to move into the 10th place. @Bologna_Duc trying to do the same but @Fudman420 and @Mac1032763 are defending well.
SHARE_20250313_0324100.jpeg

LAP #5:
Nearing the end of lap 5, or about 1/3 through the race, @cesarr64 is having himself a great drive. @THMP managed to retake 2nd from @Worst_Driver . @Buffalo_DRD is in 4th, being chased by @Dragonwhisky , @JDMKING13 and @radliffracing .
SHARE_20250313_1022120.jpeg

LAP #8:
What a fantastic sequence by @Dragonwhisky and @JDMKING13 !!! The battle for @Dragonwhisky 's 5th position was red-hot and and lasted approximately 2 laps with several moments of clean door to door action. I tried to capture this as best I can in my broadcast but don't hesitate to bring up the reply for yourselves to get your own angles on it. And right behind them is @radliffracing in a perfect spot to capitalize on any mistakes ahead of him. And not too far behind is @bublyman , in 7th.
SHARE_20250313_1022340.jpeg

LAP #9 - Caution
Close quarter racing comes with risks and some slight contact between @Mac1032763 and @Bologna_Duc , running 10th and 11th, sent them both sideways and led to the first caution we had this weekend. @JDMKING13 would end up winning his battle with @Dragonwhisky to move into 5th. @Dragonwhisky is pictured in 6th, trying to hold off a charging @bublyman , currently 7th.
SHARE_20250313_1023170.jpeg

LAP #11:
The grid is super tight again after the restart. @cesarr64 deserves credit for the race he's put together. He stays focus and has again provided himself with a little breathing room. On turn 1 of Lap 11, @THMP was a little late on his breaks in a dangerous spot but managed to get his car out of danger to let the traffic flow.
SHARE_20250313_1023400.jpeg

LAP #13 - Lead Change:
An error on lap 11 at the chicane cost @cesarr64 dearly. He'd fall from 1st to 16th after putting together 11 quality laps together. @Worst_Driver now takes the lead with @Buffalo_DRD in 2nd. @bublyman is running 3rd. @Dragonwhisky and @llNovall are in 4th and 5th. @JDMKING13 , who worked hard to get himself into the top 5, went too far left into the sand and gave up a few spots.
SHARE_20250313_1024030.jpeg

LAP #13 - Lead Change:
I'm likely to take this pic to the print shop and frame a copy on my wall in my little sim-racing room. I manage a great run on @Worst_Driver to overtake him on the back straight on Lap 13. @bublyman somehow got himself into 3rd and @Dragonwhisky and @llNovall
SHARE_20250313_1024250.jpeg

An extra thought on this one. @Worst_Driver - I was nervous because it was important to me that I kept this sequence extra clean. Just as you do for me 3 times every Sunday (in reverse grid order) as you blow the doors off my car making your way towards the front. Not once can I recall feeling any contact from you and I would have felt terrible if causing an incident here.

LAP #14:
More intense action on Lap 14. As the author of these recaps, I can share my mindset at this time. I know that @Worst_Driver carries such a heavy PP handicap that if I can come out of corners safely, I should be able to keep my distance from him on the straights. But @bublyman scared the hell out of me. With 1.5 laps to go, I can't help myself from scoreboard watching and I see him get pass @Worst_Driver and @llNovall get passed @Dragonwhisky.
SHARE_20250313_1024510.jpeg

LAP #15:
I started the last lap with a 1.6 second lead on @bublyman and recall thinking that I don't need to set a track record on this last lap, a simple 2:05 should be good enough. I manage to claim the checkered flag with 0.77 seconds to spare. @bublyman and @llNovall join me on the podium. @Worst_Driver and @Dragonwhisky round out the top 5.

Event #5 / Race #2 Broadcast:

Driver of the Race Award:
As I review the replay a few times to pull pictures and to record the broadcast, things stand out to me so I give a shout-out to the following drivers for their performance in Event #5 / Race #2:
  • @bublyman and @llNovall - Pretty hard to ignore that both were involved in incidents that sent them back to 15th place. The caution might have helped but the fact they both found themselves on the podium is pretty damn impressive.
Honorable mention to @cesarr64 who had a really good drive for almost 13 laps. Finishing 16th in this race is very unfair to you and does not reflect how well you performed in this one.

Final Thoughts:
  • And with that, the drought is over. It's been quite some time since I last won a race. I've been a low-end D1 driver in our Sunday Spec League and managed only 1 win since I joined 15 months ago. It's helped me improve but top end talent of D1 is insanely fast.
  • The McLaren's sweep Event #5. They now have 4 wins on the season (@bublyman x2, @JDMKING13 , @Buffalo_DRD ). Aston Martin (@Worst_Driver x2) and AMG (@DublDee / @THMP ) each have each have 2 wins while Chevrolet (@Bologna_Duc ) and BMW (@llNovall ) each have 1.
  • With a few weeks to go until Event #6, come satisfy your racing needs by joining the Sunday SPEC League. Whether on a full time or part time basis, we've had grid sizes of double digits lately, come join the fun.
That's how I interpreted Event #5 / Race #2.

Post Race Report and Scoring
Event #5 at Nurburgring GP

The Nurburgring GP event created some very heated and intense battles. Qualifying and fast laps were very close across the field, and continue to get closer as each event passes. I had some good battles in Race 1, but especially the long dogfight with @Noob01_lmdead . I was able to get close a few times and was able to threaten, but Raul had answer for every attempt and kept the needed pace to stay in front to hold 3rd place in R1. Race 2 was a whirlwind for me. I had a great start from 13th up to 9th in the first two laps of R2. On lap 3, I was challenging @socalnatv for 8th place, going door to door for a few corners until we came together on some incidental contact and I spun. At that point, I thought my race was over. I decided to get back to it and begin my chase on Raul who also had some unlucky fortune at the beginning of this race. Raul worked his way to 12th with me on his bumper until the caution on lap 9. With incident, that pushed me up to 11th, still laying chase to Raul with Sand not too far away. From here, I went on full attack, having some intense inter-team battles and some luck that helped work me up to a 3rd place finish in R2. Luck and a couple executions of opportunity collectively worked in my favor on this recovery drive. All in all, I was quite happy with my result despite the setback in Race 2. I am glad I had the BMW which proved strong at this track when I really needed it, but stretched me well past my comfort zone to find it. Too much else to highlight, but take a look at the replays...certainly worth the watches.
Also, one final note, take a look at the overall season standings. There are 6 points separating the top 4 after event #5. The Championship is still very much up in the air. I expect the final to events to be even more embattled and intense.
Race broadcasts and race re-caps are linked below, compliments of @Buffalo_DRD .....Great work as always sir. Also, for anyone interested, you can view the actual in-game replays through the search tag: snailmpc. Feel free to elaborate on any battles/exchanges you may have shared for this event.
Despite a few incidents, overall it was a great night of racing.

Minimal lag/jittering was present across the field, but was overall manageable.

Now for Scoring:
Congratulations to Ridger23 / @bublyman (#7) on the Overall Win on the night.
Great work!!

Also, Congratulations to our Top 3 Overall:

Driver Standings Recognition
Drivers will be encouraged, not required, to display their current driver standing going into each event after Event #1, though there will be a few rules and requirements.
Drivers who are interested in diplaying their current standing, should collect the following green digital numbers 0-9.
19298d4c15a5-screenshotUrl.jpg

After scoring is finalized and Post Race report issued, drivers will be cleared to edit their driver standing on their number board along with any award tags. Drivers should apply their Standing on both side's boards and be sure their number is in line with their actual standing in the Championship.
Should look like this:
19298d4a4df4-screenshotUrl.jpg

Rules and requirements:
To maintain accuracy and integrity to this recognition, drivers who choose to add their standing to their car will be required to submit an updated profile picture before each event with their scrutineering tuning sheet. Submissions will be reviewed post event just as I do for the driver regulations.
If a driver forgets to submit the car picture with a standing displayed or has the wrong standing placement displayed , it will result in a 5 point penalty against the overall event score. This has to be in place to ensure that those who want to display their standing, maintains the attention and accuracy for it to be credible.
If choosing to display, be sure your edited livery is correct, accurate, and saved prior to each event. If unsure or not interested in displaying your standing, simply leave it blank or just apply double zeros.
The profile pictures will not be used for the Driver profile page, only for scrutineering to maintain the integrity of this recognition.
Again, this is optional, but if done correctly, it will be a great way to know who is where in the standings as the season unfolds.

Drivers will be encouraged, not required, to display their current driver standing going into each event after Event #1, though there will be a few rules and requirements.
Drivers who are interested in diplaying their current standing, should collect the following green digital numbers 0-9.

After scoring is finalized and Post Race report issued, drivers will be cleared to edit their driver standing on their number board along with any award tags. Drivers should apply their Standing on both side's boards and be sure their number is in line with their actual standing in the Championship.
Should look like this:

Rules and requirements:
To maintain accuracy and integrity to this recognition, drivers who choose to add their standing to their car will be required to submit an updated profile picture before each event with their scrutineering tuning sheet. Submissions will be reviewed post event just as I do for the driver regulations.
Drivers can submit this to me at my PSN - NOVA-0479 anytime leading up to the next event.
