Oh. My. God... Could the sound BE anymore fake ? *Chandler Bing style.

Time to get serious : Don't know about you guys but I'd rather get a proper sound update for half of the cars in GT6 than getting new Vision GT cars. Call me all you want, but this is my take on this.

So Kaz please, for the love of God,fix the sounds !

Collaborate with Magnaflow or some other companies. That NFS movie video with Magnaflow shows that the guys at Magnaflow knows how to make immersive sounds.

What, exactly, do Magnaflow know about sound synthesis, (aside from perhaps physical simulation, that no game uses)?

They might know a bit about how to make real exhausts sound a certain way, but that doesn't mean they can translate their creations into a game in the correct way.

I do that sometimes, but then I can't hear my wife if she needs me to do something lol
There should be a universal rule, Gran Turismo play time uninterrupted by the wife/partner haha.
I support the sound update question, thousand dollar hi-fi needs it!

I have no clue who Chandler Bing is but agree that sounds are a lot more important than adding useless "Vision" cars that most of us will never use or care about.

I guess you weren't around for the nineties :D

Maybe they could make the sound and PD could translate the sound to the game ? I don't know if thats possible though but there must be something they could do to help PD...

That's no different from having PD make the sounds from recordings, as they did in the past.

An after-market exhaust manufacturer can provide lots of parts for PD to swap on cars and learn the "general rules" for, to adapt to a physical model of their own making, and then pass on that flexibility to us via their new sound generation method. :dopey:
That would be unprecedented for the genre, though.

so the bad sounds is likely from the way PD implement the sounds to the game ?

Well a lot of it is kind of vague........ and didn't watch much TV or movies which I assume this is from? I was not home a lot during that decade let's say. Persueing certain habits and music and 'stuff'....lol, whilst divorcing my first wife.:cheers:;)

It's from "Friends", a sitcom which you might of heard about, Chandler is one of the main characters.

Sounded like you probably had a good enough time to excuse your ignorance though. ;)

Let's just say that practically all of the sounds in the game are "frozen" from around 1999 specs, in terms of sampling scheme. The sound engine itself has seen continual and innovative improvement. But if you play back a '20s recording on a modern audiophile system, it'll still sounds like a '20s recording.

Since that time, or certainly since around 2004 after the sound team changed, they've clearly had designs on something bigger. Unfortunately, it's taken them a long time, probably much longer than they anticipated (I personally think they wanted this sound update to be ready for GT5).

Based on the potential I hear in the Red Bull cars (in terms of underlying tech, not the actual result so much), and the new Senna cars, I think that time spent is justified; but the proof of the pudding is, as they say, in the eating. That pudding is yet to arrive.

So instead of "when will it come", I'm more about "how does it work"?
Because I'd originally thought, since GT5 Prologue, that a substantial update wouldn't come until PS4 anyway, I'm mentally prepared for that eventuality! :P

I guess sounds will be better on ps4. Question how good will they be, what is the aim from PD?
Or is the question related only to ps3 GT6? Is there a question at all now?

Man... can't wait for a trailer of GT7. :nervous:
EDIT: Ah! This thread has just passed 700 likes! And that now makes it #1 :gtpflag:

Kaz can't skip it now

Ah, heard of that one. lol. Never watched it though. It seemed boring. Wife says it was. lol.:cheers:

with that kind of super low expectation, It explains why PD and Kaz just don't really care much about making sound on par with the actual references in this department (Raceroom & DTM Experience, Iracing)... they don't have to, reading these praises about the 97T and the F3... more metallic digital than that, I rarely heard btw.

The 97T sound is great. And it fits a UGR Gallardo replica perfectly ;D
I think that's a good sign though, that some new cars are getting great sounds.

I'm sure the reason why the sounds are so terrible are partly due to the high car count,I mean you gotta skimp out on someting.I'd love to see the process they go through to capture and then translate the sound into the game,I've seen a few game devs make videos of this.

How is what he said a super low expectation? Lol?

He clearly said it's a great sound.

Gran Turismo have the worst car sounds. Sometimes I wonder if they even try. They mix V8s with V12s and It's just a kick in the teeth. Has been a problem for a while. The Senna Cars sound amazing apart from the kart and the interiors are detailed so they did try but I think that was because they knew we wanted them. They need to up their game with engine sounds even if it means delaying new car updates.

Dear Kaz
I love your games
I've literally played all of them, including prologues, concepts, hell, even tourist trophy!
Your games are amazing, and this is why it breaks our hearts that one thing that has been poor for a while is not being addressed;

The sounds.

I love your passion for cars, I too treat them as truly beautiful items feather than mere machines. And a lot of other people will think the same way. This is why I cannot understand why you are not paying any attention to one of the most important features of a car, one of the biggest things that makes them so good; their voice

Please, me and basically the rest of gtplanet are LITERALLY BEGGING YOU TO PLEASE UPDATE THE SOUNDS.

Please.
Exactly. The car sounds are the downside to Gran Turismo.

They aren't completely useless. Some cars are great, like the lexis lfa, Mercedes sls (?), Pagani 7.2 S etc, they just need to produce these sounds a hell of a lot more consistently.

Yer they need to have an update fixing these sounds. I know not all are bad but it just feels not finished.
