For ease of reference for this particular thread:

Will there be “Standard Cars” in GT6?

We won’t be making all the Standard cars from GT5 into Premium models, and we won’t make all of the GT5′s Standard cars fully “Premiumized”.

Up until now, we used to categorize them as Standard and Premium because there were functional differences between them: some of the Standard models might not have tuning parts, or couldn’t be used in Photo Mode. That will all be cleared so every model can be used in Photo Mode, and every car can have parts fitted for it.

In terms of graphics quality, the bad quality Standard models we’ve updated so they look better.

I'm quite happy with that solution. Expecting all 1200 cars to be premiums was unrealistic. I was kinda hoping that they would just prettyfy the standards, and it looks like that's going to be the case.

I'm fine with the standard cars issue and that they have made them look better (apparently). The game still looks awesome! :)

The fact that they are in doesnt change the fact that they now have the same cosmetic functionality and options that Premium cars exclusively had in GT5.

Having less than a fifth of the cars in Photo mode wasn't great for those who wanted to take beautiful shots of their machines, but that can now be done.

I'm guessing that when it comes to body part additions it will probably stay as just spoilers, but there seems to be a lot more options of them too.

I am just very glad that Kaz and his team at PD are at least giving straight, honest answers instead of outright lying. 👍

Before it used to be:

Interviewer: What can you tell us about Gran Turismo 5's livery editor?

Kaz: Gran Turismo 5 is a good game.

Should have asked about the long term plan. Are there going to be cars without interior in gt7? Are some/lots cars never going to be made premium, therefore dropped from the series?
edit: are they considering outsourcing the job, at least for 'standard' cars so the main team can focus in adding new cars?

Also no questions about 'standard tracks', for example laguna seca and twin ring motegi.

Judging by Kaz's answer to the standard cars question, I think standards will have everything premiums have even in regards to exterior appearance (To a much greater extant than GT5 that is), but the only real difference will be the interior.

Mixed feelings for me of course. Staying optimistic though, since they are allowing them in photo mode that must mean they have become (hopefully) significantly better. Also I noticed he said "not all" will be premiumized, vague at its finest, could mean all but one and it could mean only a couple.

"We won’t be making all the Standard cars from GT5 into Premium models, and we won’t make all of the GT5′s Standard cars fully “Premiumized”

This is a little confusing. Is he saying that not all the standard cars will look premium on the outside or just not all of them will get premium treatment?(Fully modeled interiors) It seems like he's repeating his first statement. Or am I just crazy?

I can tell you now the drop will happen, just like it did in GT2 to GT3.

It's a good thing they added the same functionality to the standards as the premium. That softens the blow considarbly to me.

Agreed. I was not surprised by his answer at all. It was obvious from the moment they announced 1200 cars that there would be standards included. I will give PD credit though for at least putting forth the effort to make standard cars on par with premium in terms of features. I may actually buy the game now.

I noticed this as well, read it twice and am still not certain...

Essentially what Yamauchi said about Premium/Standard cars doesn't add much positive information.

We won’t be making all the Standard cars from GT5 into Premium models, and we won’t make all of the GT5′s Standard cars fully “Premiumized”.
The same could be said if they were to make 5 "premiumized" cars, while leaving all other 800 as Standard. This sounds like a rather vague statement.

Up until now, we used to categorize them as Standard and Premium because there were functional differences between them: some of the Standard models might not have tuning parts,
Were there standard models which couldn't have tuning parts fitted inherently because of their standard status in GT5?

or couldn’t be used in Photo Mode. That will all be cleared so every model can be used in Photo Mode, and every car can have parts fitted for it.
In GT5 all cars could "have parts fitted" too. Yamauchi is being very vague here.
Basically for GT6 now they're just dropping the standard/premium definition and pretending that all cars are made equal.
Allowing standard cars to be used in Photo Travel mode (I think he means "Photo Travel") doesn't seem a very big advancement considering that they could already be used in Photo Mode during replays in GT5.

In terms of graphics quality, the bad quality Standard models we’ve updated so they look better.
This is very vague too. He's also sort of stating the obvious. He could be referring to those standard cars in GT5 that really look horrible, perhaps due to LOD bugs or because they actually were very old models probably originally intended for GT3, with very low resolution textures (Like the Suzuki Alto Works RS-Z).

I agree, from the comment, it seems that they will be noticeably better, and will be able to be used in Photo Mode and have the ability to use very tuning part. (I don't know what the last part means, but I am guessing that we will be able to put stuff like Turbos on Lamborghini's or Superchargers on Karts? :scared:)

Am I right in reading they'll remove the categorization altogether now? Hope there's still a separate garage section (even if optional this time) as that was the only good idea resulting from including Standard cars in the first place.

Still, maybe a livery editor and engine swaps to be included after all, or just an evil laugh. ;)

Sounds to me more like he was trying to say parts like body kits etc. which no standard cars were capable of (with the exception of a rear wing).

So standards in GT6 it is. Well as long as they somewhat resemble premiums graphically (no more jaggies or sketched windows and doors), receive the same treatment and features, and have decent engine sounds, the pain would be lessened.

Really love how Kaz just replies with a big fat "No" to the interior issue :(

Same here, I just hope that they updated the textures.Like the fenders on the Skyline C110

.
The only parts you could put on standards were wings and wheels.I guess he means we can put aftermarket bodykits on them now.The only thing holding back from being premiums are the interiors and I guess the "graphic quality", he didnt say he updated the graphics on all he just said some, so.. yea idk.Give a answer that spawn more questions lol.

I interpret his answer like this:

1. Some standard cars will remain but slightly improved visually.
2. Some standard cars will look like premium cars but lack full premium functionality.
3. Premium cars

In other words, there may now be three categories, although not formally, adding both improvement and further inconsistency. I really have a gripe with the latter and I get the impression that PD waste their time on an unprecedented scale.

Sounds very good to me, can't wait to see what PD have in store for the standard cars Aero options. 👍

Ok so what I understand is definitely standard cars only they will just look like crap rather than total ****. Says you can fit parts and stuff to them which I guess is a step up.

I think he was just meaning some cars that were standards in GT5 are premium in GT6. Like the Countach and the Alpine we saw in the trailer.

Exterior-wise, perhaps certain standards can reach premium quality.

Interior-wise, it appears we'll be stuck with the black silhouettes.
