Does anybody remember this infamous image from the GT5 site as the first examples of Standard cars we saw?

Is it a coincidence 2 of them pop up as the few new Premium cars shown so far?
Might this be an indication (or 'message') that a lot more Standard cars have been replaced by Premium ones?

I'm really anticipating the Q&A Jordan is going to post soon, the 'mostly good news' part really intrigues me although I'm cautious as his definition might differ from mine.

While you and I don't always share the same opinion, Max, I can't argue with most of your reasoning. My only point of contention:

Keep in mind as you formulate a retort that GT5 has only been out for 2 plus years and there will be plenty of people purchasing GT5 over the next few years.

I think the final nail in GT5's coffin is GT6. Especially because it's carrying over all the Standards, there will be absolutely no reason for people to buy GT5 in a few month's time other than those super-casuals that are looking to save the few dollars. Oh, and perhaps the rabid fans who wear out their GT5 copy and need a new one.

With GT6 now officially announced, and a demo coming shortly, I fully expect GT5's sales to take a pretty sharp turn.

Many casuals DID NOT know about the standards until they bought the game.
bigspleen,
That's one of the best points of the thread. Yes 10.5 million purchased the game but most of them had no idea what standard cars were and bought it because of the name.
Neither one of you can assume that at all. In this day and age, when every cellphone has a browser, we're swamped with information. maxpontiac is right on the facts, while you two are assuming. Edit: "many" is true, but I'm assuming you mean that in the sense of "most."

How much you want to bet GT6 sells less then gt5?
How much do you, considering that PD seems to have been able to accomplish what many of us were skeptical of, that GT6 on PS3 could be improved in practically every area, and still run at 1080p@60? I was sure only PS4 could do that, but I was wrong. It's even going to have PS4-like reduced loading times. And this is AFTER PD worked on the GT5 Engine for four years. At that point, scavenging resources for enhancements is over for just about every developer. Except for the night lighting and car count, both yet to be seen but likely similar, GT6 is looking a lot like a PS4 game. PD really are magicians, and this is a huge rabbit.

PS4 and Box-X are going to absorb a lot of people's attention this holiday season, mine too. But there are more PS3s in homes around the world than any other next gen system, and Gran Turismo is an undisputed sales magnet that has established itself because of the quality of the game and the racing experience. And by all accounts, the GT6 demo is an outstanding racing experience, approaching the lofty level of PC sims like GTR2.

Bring on that demo! :D

The Audi LMS is certainly possible, great find.

And does anyone remember the premium R92 and Bentley Speed 8 (Not the actual cars, but codes I think) thing that Sorg found?

Maybe those could be premiums in GT6!

And the 100 standards converted to premium thing could be very likely, I wouldn't mind having a premium Countach 25th. :sly:

I can handle the return of a lot of gt5's issues, but I can't handle standards. As far as I'm concerned, gt5 had 200 cars. I never used sga cards because I didn't find it immersive or remotely enjoyable. So, hopefully gt6 fixed the standard issue.

2 of 3 now are premium... maybe means that 2/3 of standard cars now are premium :dopey: would be a dream 💡

Didn't think of that , and although it would indeed be 'mostly good news' I sincerely doubt it.
I mean, if that were true, why even include the remaining Standards?

This "NEW" game engine has been playing in my head since it's announcement...💡
New Game Engine
• Refactoring
• Compact, nimble operation
• Flexible expandability
• A new rendering engine that pushes the limits of the PS3

Could.....I say "could" this have something to do with how Standards "might" appear in game??
Refactoring! Interesting wording. Maybe the standards have been refactored and do/will look a lot better?
The new rendering engine? Maybe this will play a major role in appearance???

It's all a wait and see exercise anyways I guess, but as I have said, no biggie for me. (yes, my opinion only)

Strange as it may be though, I do use standard cars quite a lot. Yes, I paint them, add wheels, a few have added rear wings.
I even use them online :scared: and have never been asked to leave a room because of that.
So I guess most of the rooms I visit, the host either doesn't care, or doesn't know the difference?

Refactoring refers to improving the design of an existing code.

I don't care if someone else drives a Standard car in an online room (I've used them myself too sometimes but only for specific races where no Premium counterpart was available), although I do frown when someone uses a Standard car when the same one is available as Premium. ;)

As analog says, "refactoring" specifically refers to programming code, adapting itself to user needs, input or whatever. I'm very curious what this will mean for GT6, and games on PS4 because this is where the real advances are going to appear.

What really counts in respect to the Standards in GT6 is the "tesselation" thing, where extra polygons are supplied by the rendering engine to smooth surfaces on the fly. But I'm guessing that this should likewise be a modeling tool in development kits now. I had mentioned this way back in 2005 when early chats on GT5 began to spring up, and most people poo-pooed the idea. But clearly computers and programmers became a lot smarter and more focused since then, and now it's a reality.

So in a devkit, I assume that a modeler can highlight a section of a mesh for a car model, and have the program smooth it out with a percentage or range of polygons, which the modeler can leave as is or fix up by hand. This would speed up modeling by a hefty margin, and could potentially save the Standards from the trash bucket as they're more quickly converted into sub-Premiums or even Premiums. The same for legacy tracks in the Gran Turismo family like Red Rock Valley, Grindelwald, the many Tahiti Road courses and Pike's Peak! I'm really hoping to see these tracks in GT6 at some point, if I have to pay for them.

Even leader cars from the seasonals are. :sly:
Hopefully, PD will give us a nice shotgun in GT6, because yes, those wascally wabbits are a pain. I face them periodically in my Arcade Mode races, meh. :P

I really should race my weed eaters soon. I feel the need for wabbit hunting!

Nice exteriors and blacked out interiors would do me fine for standard cars, what always annoyed me was not the lack of interiors but the grainy texturing on the outside. I drive bonnet (roof) view most of the time anyway.

I'd hazard a guess that all GTPSP new models will be premium-ized.

Not sure the modelling process PD used in GT3 & GT4, but assuming that the original textures that where created for the cars where kept (not the ones finally applied) assuming at higher resolutions they could re-Map the models to approve there looks in addition to above said. I think the low resolution of textures when replace with higher ones could make a huge impact.

On the talk of standard cars, I can really see the:
R390
R390 GT1
R92
R89C
R33 LM
And many of the other special Nissan/Nismo cars getting the premium treatment due to Nissan and PD's relationship. 👍

Wouldn't get my hopes up though, but it seems like GT6 will be a change for the better. 👍

I think the name of this thread is quite funny. "Standards are in GT6, well, they haven't been confirmed to be on GT6; it just seems likely that they are.."

I love how there is a bunch of confusion around the car list yet again. With GT5 it turned out to be the worst case scenario so I guess I'll assume that about GT6. Which would be only around 100 new cars since GT5 has 1080+ cars and however many standards that are now premium like the Alpine and Countach. Not very impressive.

I was fine with standards in GT5 because I just saw them as an honest mistake. When they were making the PS2 cars they tried to future proof them and it didn't work. If there are standards in GT6 then they are not learning from their mistakes... Makes me miss the day of GT4 and GT2.

I thought Jordan said he was going to post it either Thursday or Friday. Did something change?

I'm thinking he's holding it back for a bit longer to give the server a break. There's no doubt there will be a lot of traffic once he posts it.

jordan, i have to ask you a question : do you think that PD deleted the standards copies of premium cars (like toyota supra jtcc, shelby cobra etc) ?

i hope in GT6 there's cockpit view also in standard cars (like GT5)
