Standard cars ARE in GT6. (100% confirmed)

I think he was just meaning some cars that were standards in GT5 are premium in GT6. Like the Countach and the Alpine we saw in the trailer.

What's the deal with the not fully premiumized cars then? Or is he just repeating himself in a very mysterical manner?

Exterior-wise, perhaps certain standards can reach premium quality.
To me it seems he meant that the obviously, embarassingly bad looking standard cars will somehow be updated, while the others are probably fine by PD quality standards and will remain like they are in GT5.

Some iconic cars will probably get the Premium treatment, although that doesn't mean they will replace the standard versions.

Now we will have to wait and see just how many standards are made premium :). Rather it be a little or alot, im just happy that some have been updated.

standards needed three things
Fix the jaggies
Fix the poor poly count on some edges * very few standards suffered from this, most noticeably the ruf cars*
Update all textures ..
they would look like premiums while driving ..

i hope they will replace those cars, so we have more premium

p.s. fiat panda must be premium

Updating the textures is a big one for me.

Just had a thought actually. By the sound of it, they are getting some kind of attention graphically, but similar to how the wheels and wings you could fit to the standards in GT5, presumably all the body kits and bits and bobs you can equip all standards with now, will be of premium quality, so that might actually be pretty nice. I mean, if you can fit a hefty new bumper on or something, that would in effect "cover up" the old jagged bumber underneath it, making it nicer for photos etc.

Just an idea...

They'd better model them again from scratch rather than wasting time updating the GT3/4 low-poly 3D meshes a bit and tweaking all the outdated, pixel-painted textures (with obsolete baked shading).

If they're actually making cars by box modeling (a very traditional 3D modeling method) as seen in their Silverstone event presentation, they can't possibly take 6 months per car, especially if they're only doing exteriors, (which would be a smart idea to save time, on former Standard cars).

I can't see them wasting too much time on GT6, though, which so far seems like a "least effort" project to me. They simply have to be busy with something else, like GT on the PS4, which most probably won't be using standard cars anymore (and I don't think most people would object if once in a while, especially on a much more powerful system, they dropped down the total number of cars)

Any body parts will have to be additive, bigger in all directions, to "cover up" an existing Standard's bumper. That's the problem with the last-generation, single-piece models; you can't just remove the bumper and add a new one, not without creating a new car model.

Which, I mean, they could've done, but the idea that they've actually sat down and wasted more time on assets as old and outdated as Standards is too crazy for me to entertain.

Agreed. I was not surprised by his answer at all. It was obvious from the moment they announced 1200 cars that there would be standards included. I will give PD credit though for at least putting forth the effort to make standard cars on par with premium in terms of features. I may actually buy the game now.

Yaaay, great to have you back MuoNiuLa. :) This is gonna be great. It's almost like there won't be Premium/Standard anymore, but are now just "cars". 👍

Well. To be honest, at least it's better to have the standards updated to match with the premium cars, instead of just throwing them away. Forza didn't rework there cars from FM1/2 from scratch, and instead updated them to match with the other cars in the game. You know?

I'm afraid that due to the immense amount of standards that few gems will be overlooked completely and will remain in their poor state, albeit a few minor touch ups :( Cars such as the Spyker C8, Oullim Spirra, Callaway C12, the Chaparrals, the cool concepts, like the Nardo, etc.

Now if the most requested cars such as the Veyron and Supra are still not up to par in terms of quality, I will completely lose faith in Polyphony. Seriously.

But I know they're not dumb. So I'll cautiously remain optimistic until the official car list is revealed.

Standards to be in GT6?? Meh, couldn't give a monkeys.

I had the most fun on GT5 in standard cars, mainly the FGT, the tank car and the Alfa 156 touring car.

Gran turismo is after all a driving simulator, you don't drive a car by looking at it wishing you could take some pretty pictures or fit a spoiler. I buy the games to drive the cars, if the models are slightly dodgy and pixelated, I'm not bothered.

If I can't fit some aero parts so what? As long as I can race the car to my hearts content, either on my own or against some friends then I will be happy. Provided the physics and tyre modelling etc are decent of course.

Standards on GT6 = not buying, this is embarrasing but it's worse that some people are still willing to pay for such a turd.

To summarize GT6:
-Standard cars return.
-Sounds are just as bad if not worse than GT5.
-New engine, just a pair of fancy words to say ''we've reduced the resolution of the envirorment so we can focus more on the detail and lightning of the cars.
-New physics engine, another pair of fancy words just to look good in front of the press, I'm sure it won't change that much from GT5.
-unconfirmed damage
-unconfirmed weather and day/night cycles for all tracks.
-Customization, wohoo, PD managed to be on-par with GT4, great job PD, a couple more decades and you'll be on par with FM4.
-200 new cars which means- 100 more skylines and 100 more miatas.
-7 new locations, let me guess, we are going to get PS2 ported tracks again, right?
-New online options, glad to see PD finally entering the current gen of consoles.
-Coming this year but we still don't know when, good work, that means 2 more years until it gets released, way to go PD. 👍

That's it, I'm done with this franchise...

If you looks closer at this tiny pic you can sorta see around the wheel wells its a bit smoother. You couldnt paint nearly any standard a light color without seeing jaggies in the wheel wells

Completely agree. I had just as much fun in Standard Cars as I did in Premium ones. Low PP Shuffle Racing (which mainly consists of Standard Cars) is some of my favorite racing to do online and I didn't care in the slightest about the quality of the cars.

Granted, I really do hope they make the models look as good as possible (some had pretty bad pixelation) so that there's not a drastic difference when they're on track with Premium cars.

There is no way to tell that from such a distance no matter how much you zoom, not nearly enough pixels to reveal such information.

The problem with Standard cars in GT5 is that they don't drive the way they're supposed to. For example, the Standard Ford GT No Stripe is faster than the Premium Ford GT, which shouldn't be because apart from their name and year, they should drive the same.

I hope this is fixed for GT6, or else Standard cars will remain in the garage for me again.

Hang on?

Yes, return, but updated.
-Sounds are just as bad if not worse than GT5.
Source for this? I have seen very few videos none of which demonstrated sounds. You just made this up.
-New engine, just a pair of fancy words to say ''we've reduced the resolution of the envirorment so we can focus more on the detail and lightning of the cars.
Again...what?
-New physics engine, another pair of fancy words just to look good in front of the press, I'm sure it won't change that much from GT5.
From what everyone who has played the game has said, it plays really nicely. So again...What?
-unconfirmed damage
So what? It's unconfirmed. That's all.
-unconfirmed weather and day/night cycles for all tracks.
...and again.
-Customization, wohoo, PD managed to be on-par with GT4, great job PD, a couple more decades and you'll be on par with FM4.

I'm starting to wander whether you ever liked GT at all.
-200 new cars which means- 100 more skylines and 100 more miatas.
Again, total speculation, and pretty much BS.
-7 new locations, let me guess, we are going to get PS2 ported tracks again, right?
More total guessing based off nothing.
-New online options, glad to see PD finally entering the current gen of consoles.
-Coming this year but we still don't know when, good work, that means 2 more years until it gets released, way to go PD. 👍
Actually they said exactly when it will be released. A couple of months time frame is fairly accurate at this point.

That's it, I'm done with this franchise...
I'm glad.

And since those cars are almost all the worst looking cars in the game by a huge margin (Hello, C4 Corvette), Turn 10 really shouldn't have either.

True. Many of them have specifications/performance errors left uncorrected since GT4.

Also I've always had the feeling that their driving behavior in general isn't as sophisticated/detailed as with Premium cars. If the physics engine got more advanced over time (needing more parameters/variables to cope up with the additional realism/detail), it's likely that Standard cars had the missing variables somehow interpolated and/or filled with generic values.

Not to mention there isn't even anything to show us how much PD has apparently updated these (selected) Standards.

I've felt the same way for a long time, as well 👍

I'll wait to make a judgement call on Standards until I see them next to the GT6 cars. If they look just as sexy as the premiums, then it won't really matter. Although, if that's true, then suddenly being forced from interior to chase will get really annoying. I also hope the X2013 gets a windshield wiper 'cause in GT5, you couldn't see ANYTHING when it rained.

Exactly my thoughts. I now take it that customization on all cars (including premiums) will only be limited to attachments only, such as lips and spoilers. I can't see the possibility of replacing entire bumpers on cars if standards and premiums will be treated equally.

After reading that awesome interview with Kaz, I just hope they cleaned up the jaggy textures on the standards. The rear window on the VW Polo cup car (which we were all forced to use) is a classic example of why I generally dislike them. Not good for photo mode either.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

In terms of graphics quality, the bad quality Standard models we’ve updated so they look better.

If this is taken literally, it would seem like some of the cars that were completely attrocious were updated to match the rest of the standards which apparently are "good enough". If a complete reworking of them took place, I doubt Kaz would phrase it like that. I just feel people ought to temper their expectations otherwise they might get a quite big shock.

I don't think that we're going to get GT5 quality standards. I think he was trying to say all the standard cars have been updated including the bad quality ones. I think people are just upset 'cause the "scary standard cars" have appeared again. You could ALWAYS do what you did in GT5 and NOT use the standard cars.

Kaz said they almost all will be available for photomode so high res textures are done. No interior view is a bad thing though I hope it is added for most cars.

Agreed. Although the events may make them use them but still, agreed. 👍
