Standards given some love by v1.06?

Anyway, I think that only cars that for some unknown reason turned out to be worse than they where in GT4 got improved. They now look as good as they did in that game. This means that cars that looked bad (it seems that model quality varied much at that time too, seeing screenshots from the photo mode) still look bad (for example Daihatsu Mira TR-XX Avanzato R).

By the way does anybody have a Subaru Legacy to compare with this one?

Haha, I like the Daihatsu MIRA, I don't care how badly detailed it is, I will still like it, but it would, be nice to see better detail on it.

there is no before and after guys that alto works suzuki is from gt4 and the 2nd pic is from gt5

Stop being so gullible guys, you know what was included in that 300mb update and this was not or else it would have been stated.

Also you guys do know in photomode the car is givin more pixels and a higher reslolution to make it look its best for a fantastic GT5 pic do you really think photomode would produce some crap like that?

No it isn't. You can tell by looking at the wheels.

Yeah, I do. Because I've seen them. Really, this post was made not too long before yours, and the picture is indisputably taken from GT5. And there is no arguing that that car looks far worse than it did in GT4.

You know what just occurred to me? PD might have screwed up with some of the Standards and only included lower LOD models for certain cars, or bugged up the loading so they didn't load the higher detail ones. You know, the crappier ones that the game loads when the car gets farther away to save on resources? That would explain why some of the cars looked worse than they did in GT4, and that would explain why this (relatively) small update cleaned them up.

Guys, it was a 300MB download. You REALLY think any of that went into updated graphics for a few POS cars?

It is how Chinese medicine works. If you BELIEVE in it hard enough, you will begin to SEE it! :dopey:

That thought went through my head as well but as mentioned before, the previous update was massive for not all that much new content so some of that may have been activated by this latest update..........just a theory.

As for you saying believe in it hard enough and you will begin to see it........in my OP i also questioned myself on that but it seems the majority of people are noticeing an improvement.

It does however still need proven beyond doubt

Its already been confirmed that the first pic off the alto is from gt5 due to being able to see the driver in the car, god awful pic and probably deliberately made to look bad, but still gt5

Not everything that was in the update gets mentioned officially, it does just say major changes. I would say upgrading standards is pretty major but maybe they just wanted to leave a few surprises for us to find by ourselves???

The wheel arches on my Tommy K ZZII look a little less jagged, almost smooth. I think maybe they tweaked the aliasing. I am going to have a good look through my standards today to see if I can see an overall noticable difference.

The wheel arches on the R34's in the UCD still look like crap. Every time I look at those skylines I cringe.

The GT-R V Spec II N1 (R34) '00 specifically. Looks like some one just took a dull knife and just cut out a spot to put tires.

As I wrote, some standards appear to have improved over the initial release (however regarding the previously posted Alto Works, by searching on the internet for screenshots of it, I found out that it has probably been improved in one of the previous patches, not 1.06), but not above GT4 quality, speaking of textures.

Just took my R390 road car out for a quick spin and to examine it closely..........did this for a reason because anyone who has driven this couldnt fail to notice how bad the right wing mirror looked!!!! It didnt even resemble a rectangular shape and had polygons sticking out the side...........Well i can confirm that it seems to have been improved, it now resembles a rectangle all be it a jaggy one but it at least has a shape!!!!!

Took a close look at the wheel arches and window frames and id say the wheel arches were passable and the window frames were pretty good, cant really compare to before and after though as i hadnt paid that much attention.

One thing i did note though is that the lighting and reflections on the car were very good indeed.

Again nothing is confirmed but that mirror certainly seems to be just awful now rather than god awful before lol

Comparing the same car before and after is good, but if possible they should be done on the same track. I'd noticed that there seemed to be quite a noticeable difference in the quality of rendering between tracks, perhaps dependent on the resources needed for the track itself.

It isn't too far-fetched to think that, if there were already different qualities of rendering in the game, they might have been able to optimize something enough to increase the quality where it was previously poor.

It looks like from the Alto picture that PD have put some time in to make a GT5 premium level front nose and bumper for it and stitched it on to the standard cars body.... or it was a GTPSP front which they have now replaced with a GT4 front. Its a neat trick and has made a big improvement.

I seem to remember the old Pescarolo being a terribly bad standard model, I wonder if they have also sorted that one out.

Robin.

That's my impression as well. Now I regret I didn't take any shots of it earlier.

Perhaps they are just upgrading the PSP models they might of used in game to the higher quality models left from making GT4?

Someone should look at the Jaguar you win for the Top Gear challeneges. Thats was terrible before, that'd be a good proof of a car that is in the spotlight and also needing a make over.

Mazda RX-8 concept still look very pixelated and Acura CL tail lights are still jagged. I haven't noticed any visual improvements to standard cars.

I have on the two civic race cars noticed that they are less pixelated. They all appear a bit more smoother now.

Well, after reading this thread I went to see some of my standard cars, and YES some of the standards do look better, much better actually.

I'm talking about the FTO super touring car and the RX-7 LM race car.

I can post some comparison pics later, one car that springs to mind is the jaguar xj220 which looked terrible before the update and I have pics of it before. I will take some after the update and post them up as well as some others. I'm a bit sceptical of this at the moment but you never know it could be true, we will see.

Nobody else has noticed the improvements to the shadows? When the game launched this was the most obvious graphical flaw to me and with this patch it's like 10X better.

Wow I hope this is true. Can't wait to fire up my PS3 and see it for myself.

LOL no offense but if you guys think the 3KGT model looks good you've obviously never seen a real one. That model may be the worst in the game. The body lines are just not even close to being right. For instance the body line where it meets the side windows is perfectly straight in the game. Look at a real 3K, it has a very apparent curve there. Basically the whole model is too blocky and not curvaceous like the real deal. It looks like it was modelled from a "made in china" 1:64 car you'd pick up for 25 cents at Walgreens.

If they ever make that a premium model I hope they start with an entirely new model and throw out what they already have. I love 3000GTs and Stealths so much and it hurts me to see them get crap attention in games.

I actually owned one irl, sorry.

We did some race testing in the Fireblades last night... the standard model looked much better!

1.06 seems to have done a lot of stuff 'under the hood' - it's made me very confident that PD are actually fulfilling their promises!

I don't know, still a bit skeptical. People seeing what they wish to see is not rare.

You should bear your own advice in mind while taking a look for yourself! The models haven't improved (not at only 300Mb total) but something HAS improved in the rendering.

Shadows are better, standard-model renders are better and the lighting is smoother on premia.

Why would I not want the visuals to have improved?

I've been playing the game all day and I've yet to notice any difference in shadowing. They're still as bad as ever and they still flicker on and off on the cars.
