Standards given some love by v1.06?

So, I don't think ALL standards were given love...but some certainly were. The first car that came to mind for me when hearing about this "upgrade" was the Jag XJ220 since it looked like such a shapeless blob in game. I have both the road and race car versions. The road car looks way better now, but the race version still looks like a 4 year old drew it. Anyone else been able to compare these two?

But these tracks are made with the course editor and nothing new. They could have been there without any patch-release.

EA would charge you $12 for each track location (Tocana, Eifel Mt Aso, etc). And not the generator, either, just 5 tracks for a particular variation.

Activision would charge you a $15 for a GT5 Stimulus Package, that contains dodgy track generator version of tracks already in the game, then each additional (badly) generated track for $3.

What you're getting is still more tracks in the game with this generator, for free. The high-speed tricky crash bang whoopie in the RX7 event is great fun, and because PD put the effort into their systems, it's free and in a day you could generate a handful of awesome tracks.

There's 7 locations...
Let's call it 3 lengths (short/med/long)
At 2 main times (just before/after midday and early morning/late night)
Starting at around 5 (average) points per scenery/location/track-variables
With 1.5 (average) whether conditions (rain, snow for Alaska, Eifel, Leige think another has one too)
Enough track length for 4 Narrow/Wide variations (N/W N/N W/N W/W)
Enough track length for 4 twisty/straight variations (see above)
2 ways to adjust Camber

Even without rain/snow, and combining the tracks that share portions (long variants of a track/club variants etc etc etc), there's HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of unique, fun, enjoyable tracks.

It's like EA giving up the code to create custom user-generated weapons AND npc's for Dragon Age 2, or Activision giving away the modular parts so that users could generate their own COD maps.

EDIT: the XJ220 got an upgrade? Awesome; though it should be one of the easier cars to convert to premium. The topo looks alright~ish, so in theory they should just be mashing the SMOOTH button like it's 1999.

I must add that in doing various random a spec races to give some love to my less used cars, I noticed it was much harder to discern standards from premiums while out on the track, then I saw this thread.

I'll have to take a closer look at some cars - one of the biggest things that bugged me was how there was simulated shading on the textures of some cars. Like a grainy darkening of the body color where shadows would be. I can't imagine that having been improved but if the rendering/shading system has changed with respect to standards then it might alleviate that pain a little.

Cars look the same to me so far. Unless someone has legit before and after photos. Other then that I haven't seen a difference for me.

digital foundry mentioned they couldn't spot a difference in visual quality or performance, but I still think something has changed in the graphics department.
For example, a little off topic, was Suzuka always that much full of grass sprites? It's now similar to GT5P where the off track was full of grass sprites, and you could see them waving when cars drove by. In GT5 1.00, I can remember that I was missing this detail, because there was much less grass. (maybe someone smoke it, and now it grew again? just kidding)

Don´t know what you mean or what it has to do with my post. But PD just made a track with the editor to give some variety instead of always driving the same tracks. Each of us can do this.

So I don´t understand, what you mean with your "EA would charge this, Activision would charge that"-thing. This track has nothing to do with DLC or something.

Whoa are you guys actually DEBATING whether the standards have changed?

HAhaha Its so clear cut. I noticed it the second I saw a Standard car spin in the garage. No need for in game pics. The change is huge and obvious.

As long as my xj220 and her spoiler look like they're in the same universe when i put gt5 on in two minutes, i'll be over the MOON!!!

I finally got to see another Alto Works in the used car dealership, and I can confirm that it looks much better than it use to.

And, interestingly enough, I've discovered something about the Legacy sedan:
The 2.0GT actually looks fine (well, as fine as any other Standard). The 2.0GT Spec B is the one that looks awful.

This is exactly what I thought. I logged in and saw my TVR Speed 12 (my baby) spinning around in its gorgeous Chameleon Orange looking way more vivid and better then before, Ive noticed the Color change is even more pronounced (probably due to textures/reflections) and I even see a little bit of redish sometimes.

Makes it look so amazing, I've nicknamed it The Fireball :dopey: :sly:

Right away I started er up and jumped onto a random A Spec race to check it out and its DEFINATELY changed, the reflections at least anyways. Looking at the top of that funny rear bumper shows you exactly what I mean.

The point I made was that these tracks ARE here with the patch release, and for free.

Anyway, my Speed 12 now looks hot in it's Holden purple (forget the name). The reflections really bring it to life; I think before the reflections looked so bad on some cars because for some reason they were just reflecting this dull orangey-white colour (like in GT Auto).

Well I love standard cars. But I noticed that nearly everyone uses Premium cars online lol. Its like they hate standards. I noticed the improvement to, its awsome.
Really? i go in alot of rooms, and see tons of standards...some times i just see standards...Alot of people love standards and so do i:tup:, The standard to premium ratio is extremely...extremely diverse online, If you go in a room with a nice premium car its overlooked by a nice looking cool standard and people asking you to trade it, I guess it's the cool factor, There are a ton of cool standards out there that people go crazy for, yes it would be nice if they were all premium quality, but as long as they look good and drive like premiums, i'm happy. ....my garage count is (78) standard (26) premium(Japanese sports cars and muscle).

Honestly, as first i was dissapointed. then when i actually got the game and saw them in gameplay, i could not really tell a difference...I thought they were going to look terrible....but when you circle around some in photomode, Alot look very good. i was impressed. they arent near premiums, But with GT5 lighting and reflections they look very very good minus a few.

Took a quick snap of my Honda, as I already had an older photo of it. Can you tell which is post 1.0.6?

I honestly can't say which is which.

I looked at both and couldn't spot anything that immediately stood out. Then I began to notice the ugly blocky shadow under the first picture. Considering the light is coming from the left the area under the rdrivers side wheels should be well lit. The one on the right has a much more rounded shadow but again, the area between the drivers side wheels are in shadow when the lighting angle should illuminate that area.

I then realised that the first one actually has the most detailed shadow but that the blocky second shadow spoils it. Without this the shadow of the first would be much more appropriate to the car.

The first car is more glossy and reflective but this might be down to lighting angle. It does make the second car look cleaner because there's more of a gradient on the bonnet and the glass is less opaque.

The grill of the first car seems more defined but again, it may be the angle.

The door handle on the right is much clearer and may even stick out slightly.

All in all I think I'm going for the one on the right but it's negligible and I'm not confident of that. They may even both be post or pre 1.6. More importantly, at 80mph, I don't think it would matter.

I noticed on one of the old Nissans that the headlights are no longer a simple texture - they use the same / a similar shader that is present on the old round headlamps of a lot of the premium cars, such that you get that shimmer effect (and the aliasing that goes with it) as the car rotates.

I can't remember the car exactly right now, but it was box-shaped and had quad round headlamps. Possibly a skyline.

The RX-7 LM seems to look a little nicer. Before the headlights and the orange window bar (that says Gran Turismo) were really smudgy and blurry. It looked much better when I saw it in the garage and in demo mode.

I just want to know if the Berlinette still looks like this?

I'm looking at my 97 Suzuki Alto Works in the Garage and it still looks like garbage. Not that it bothers me too much since I never intend to use it. Is it only in photo mode that it looks better?
