how about a rally car at tsukoba wet?

like the Escort, Corolla, or a group b... lets see... Lancia S4... 💡

btw, a rally car (could even be the CZ-3) in a road track? :dopey:

looks nice already...

Here's another one, not for this coming week's race though, because Kent you said a while ago that you'd like suggestions earlier in the week(so you can try them out I'm assuming to make sure they're good races...).

The C5-R vs GTS-R on Laguna has been said before, so here's hoping that that becomes next week's race, maybe anyway...

And then for a week or two later, Stratos at Seattle is pretty damn fun... 👍

Stratos eh?

Hmm.... id like that.

Ive been driving all sorts lately and i like:

Using a low powered car round tsukuba, like the mx-5.
Using a tail happy car round costa.
Using the CZ-3 anywhere.
Using the Renault Clio V6 phase 2 whatever round Paris, the opera course, and forwards at that, too.
There's a french car round a french track.
Its good fun too.
The minolta round hong kong turned out to be an awful choice, but the world championship demanded it... and erm, i like to drive the ruf yella birdie round the ring on road tyres, cos its slipperty slidery fun.
Using those tyres means you take the corners at realistic speeds, and do realistic lap times.

Ive also done ALL the rallies, and i think the scooby-doo prototype has the best balance untuned, and will take any rally track and make mincemeat of it, without sliding out or understeering too much.

The rest seem to have too much grunt sometimes, except the super evo mitsi, and thats best used on tarmac.

its about time we raced tsukuba, motorland, seattle, laguna, tokyo, and erm, the nurb.

I also enjoyed the nissan/datsun 240ZG '71 last nite.

Good for sideways squealin.

tata 👍

It would be a nice idea to do another Licence test one of these coming weeks...
...one of those full lap tests, of course.

Doesn't really matter if a "guided lap" or a normal full lap.

Just thought I would suggest it, I think it would be fun to see by how much we can beat the time needed for Gold :D

Later.

EDIT: I just thought it would be fun if we did a Driving Mission, as well...

I am not trying to be a jerk or anything...but I would advise AGAINST a guided lap for WRS. I actually just took care of the Honda Integra Type R guided lap test at Suzuka this afternoon. I've been going back and getting golds in all the license tests thanks to the new wheel. I got gold by 3 seconds, but it took me 3 runs....

1st to find the handling limits of the car - I went off at 130R. :ouch:
2nd to find out that if I pass the Skyline Pace Car going into the Casio Triangle, I FAIL. That seems counter-intuitive to me...if you're faster, then by all means, go right ahead!!! :ill:
3rd to beat the gold time by over 3 seconds :)

But that whole passing the pace car thing really made me angry. I almost hit the stupid thing in 130R because it slowed down so much. Grrrr

So anyway, I hope you see my logic. Guys like Hotboi, Holl and Puck will be on the pace car's tail all the way around the track. Not fun, in my humble opinion.

Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone.

Also, thanks for being understanding of "our" cause here...
Getting good race combos together often takes more than just a creative idea or a classic combo myth. ;)

I've got next week picked out already but I think most of you will enjoy it.
I can't say too much but it will be a week for those of you who like fast cars and more than one to pick from. 👍

CMF or Kent, as you both pick/moderate what races we do, how bout a Deep Forest run, the slight modifications to the track from GT3 to GT4 have made it increadably fast, even in an un-modified car. (I liked this week's unmodified Miata race)

I have to say though, that I have a tendencey to like the mid range cars, rather than the all out race cars. But that is a personal preference as one can always hope to own a Miata or Mustang, were as only the big racing corps, own the Race cars.

I will say this though, i am fairly new to the GT series, and only have about 15% completion on my game (using my brothers save game copy for WRS, has the money and the tracks) So, I haven't earned any of the Race cars yet.

Sounds like fun! As long as we get some decently sticky tires to run them on...

When you mention the 350 I have flashbacks to that one license test with the 350 at Citta di Aria. I hated that one. I still haven't gotten gold in it. I think it's mostly the track though.

The reason I suggested the Motor Sport Elise is because in GT mode, fully tuned, it will keep up with some incredibly fast cars. It handles superbly.

The 350 is more of an understeering, wheelspinning tank compared to the Elise, and we've had our share of those types of cars lately (R390GT1, 350Z JGTC, etc). I just think it would be nice to have a good neutral-handling car for the first time in many weeks.

Fair enough - I was just trying to suggest cars that hadn't been done to death in the game, or used a lot because it's a great car (i.e. I'm sure every GT racer owns and has put a zillion miles on their BMW M3 <insert variant here>, Skyline <variant>, Evo <variant> Etc.).

I joined WRS partialy to get a new race 'combo' that the game hadn't offered yet, and I'd like to see us use cars that weren't required for a race in the game as well as cars that didn't have their own manufactures series.

I love to race, and I'm a decent racer, but I'd like to see the hardcore racers given the same challenge by using an unusual car that no one has driven for more than just a few miles, if at all. Know what I'm saying?

And Kent/CFM - Someone mentioned F1's a while back and your general response was "Well not everyone has gotten that car". And while that might be true, almost *everyone* in WRS has a replay device of some sort and can download a 100% game save that does. ;) So I would encourage you to not be afraid to pick hard to get cars (et. all) or rare ones available in the showrooms - because if ONE of us has it, we can give it to everybody via the replay device. 👍

tha latest proof that WRS makes you even better:

after this week, go to the S-license, and pick the S-2, the one with the alfa romeo... (similar car specs to the miata we´re running btw)

i just did this earlier and got a 2´14 (3 sec below gold) on my very first try... its amazing...

My brother just went to S2 and got gold there as well...

So *HERE'S* a suggestion - pick any car, just do the tracks for the S Lisences so we can all go get our golds! (for those of us who don't yet) ;)

First I would like to state that CFM and Kent are doing a wonderful job here. And thanks to all those who are helping, i.e posting track guides, unofficial leaderboards(thanks lewie), ect....

However, something that I have noticed, is that there are 150 people listed in Div 3 alone, and each week we only get 10-20 submissions from Div 3 racers. (same for Div 2 at 124 racers)

I don't know if it is because there are some of us(yes I am including myself here) who just don't have "Time in Game" to be "Great" drivers, and aren't posting times because they feel they don't have a chance at posting a "Good" time.

Would you be willing to look at the Idea of stretching out the Div's more, say to 5-8 Div's or even 20 divs so that everyone is racing in a Div were they can feel competitive?

I know that it takes a lot of work, and I would be willing to help, I would also be willing to be droped a Div or 5, as right now, I know that I am not competitive enough to take top spot in div 3.. I will keep posting, but I know I am not top quality.

My suggestion would be something along these lines...

Div 1 = 10 driver slots
Div 2 = 15 driver slots
Div 3 = 20 driver slots
Div 4 = 25 driver slots
Div 5 = 30 driver slots
ect.....

and if the last div only ends up with 2 racers; well they get to race each other until either A. more people join, or B. they impove their times.

Something to think about, I know this is going to cause a lot of discussion, and even if agreed upon (or some variation there of) will not happen over night.

Please keep an open mind....

I dont think it will cause that much discussion frogger.

We've been here and not done that.

This is a good idea, only people would move up and down too often, things would get confusing, people would get upset cos they werent where they thought they would be, and its best left alone.

When GT4 started, we asked if we should change, and agreed to leave it as is, however, change could take place, but the foundations need to be in place before the suggestion is warranted as a good one.

I wish you luck.
👍

I think it would work well, if we didn't every week, have only 10% of registered drivers submit a time regularly.

According to Luxys Leaderboard, 40 people have posted times this week on the thread. So I'll assume that we have more or less 40 people submitting.

If we had 8 Divisions, that would only be 5 people per divsion, which seems kinda silly. With only 5 people per division, what happened if only 2 submitted their times? Would one have to go up, and one go down?

Personally, I think I would filter back down to 3-4 divisions anyway.

well, i´m just trying to give my imput into this...

more than 3 divisions is a lot... because most people don´t submit their times... i think we have to find a way to get people to submit their times... i don´t say force them to submit, but we must figure a way to increase this...

but we can´t say that 10% of the drivers submit their times... if we make a list right now, less than 100 drivers are still active... i mean, take an example, to good qualified dirvers, 3rdgenracerx, or nikjohnston28... i never heard of them, they played in the beginning of WRS and quit... a LOT did that... maybe a new list, with a new qualify, i just don´t know exactly...

I think the current Series works fantastically exactly the way it is.

It forces you to drive really hard to be competitive. I for one love the challenges put forward each week, even though Week 18 beat me, that's okay, I want to be forced into uncomfortable situations and I think Kent and CFM do that really well (I will need counselling after this week though CFM ;) )

Some day I hope to get to Div 1 and I know that when GT5 comes out I will be able to have better goals from the outset than just getting 100%, courtesy of the skills I've learnt from WRS.

WRS is a brilliant concept that I believe is brilliantly run...mucho kudos to CFM and Kent 👍

Now as for a race suggestion...

I think Tsukuba Wet with a really tail happy car would be interesting?

But I also support the idea of using the F1. If there is concern over people having it, you could perhaps give some warning that a race is coming up where it will be required, give them detailed instructions on how to get it ?

Why not just remove anybody who has not submitted in the last 3 races or somethin' , still keep their points, but not list them on the leaderboard ... that way we will have a more condensed leaderboard ... if someone comes back again after an absence of say 3 races, then just add them back again if needed.

There's no way of increasing the number of submissions, if someone feels they got a crap time, then maybe they won't submit ...

Like it's been said before, lots of people will fade away as the WRS goes on ... only the stubborn people like us will stay haha.

I never get time to submit T time splits for example, but still send in my Final Time, so basically there's always more results than on Luxy's leaderboard ...

Just some quick math.

In week 17, 53 drivers submitted a time.

With 314 registered drivers that means 16.878980891719745222929936305732% of registered drivers submitted a time.

Which is slightly more then the 10% I predicted 👍

The formula that Flat-out uses for his leaderboard is similar to what you're suggesting, it takes into account your top 6 finishes for the last 8 races. If you don't race in 8 weeks (two months) you are taken off the leaderboard.

I am a little confused. I think 8 divisions would be crazy to try to keep track of. Can you imagine the promotions and demotions? CFM and Kent have enough to keep track of as it is.

And I don't understand the statement like some people "feel they don't have a chance at posting a "Good" time" which means that some people are "afraid". :dunce:

I mean, I think my time for Week 18 will be last or next-to-last in D2. So I stink this week. Big deal. There's always next week. If people are afraid of submitting slow times, then that's something they have to deal with on their own.

Like has been said in the past, there are many people signed up for WRS, but after a while, it will be whittled down to a smaller group of very dedicated and very talented racers. I'd probably prefer the small group over a huge group of 150 drivers submitting times. I've really enjoyed the past few weeks that have seen a small turnout. I've gotten into some good battles with Puck, Toffe and fasj and other guys, and I like that. I like to be beaten consistently by the same people, it makes me work harder since I know that they'll be in front of me and I need to drive better to beat them. I don't want some guy coming out of the woodwork that beats me without really participating in these boards and just submits a fast time.

I guess I don't see what's so bad about the way things are right now. The WRS is in good shape. 👍

Whew, OK I think I'm done. Sorry for the rant.

Thanks for that Androoos, it all makes sense what u r saying. I did not realise that that's how flat-out's leaderboard is working, but I also agree with you, the WRs is in good shape !

before someone gets me wrong, i also think WRS is in good shape... when i say increase submissions, is just for those that i know that are participating but don´t submit because they are not competitive enough... i once heard from a driver, that submissions are low because the combo was hard... just doesn´t make sense for me, even if i´m bad, i´m still sending a time... maybe our group has 60-70 racers, and that´s good... maybe this week we get 60 or so times... those two weeks with the hondas were the only ones with less than 40 times...

Did a search but couldnt see anything in this thread about controllers? Is this just for car/track combination suggestions?

I was wondering if its possible to submit what type of controller was used when times and divisions are submitted? When the weekly results are announced it will be easy for people to see who uses what and they can then make the decision on the possiblity of investing in a wheel?? Just a thought...

To be honest, there is no particular advantage to using a wheel over a controller. The most important thing is spending enough time practicing to master whichever input device you have. I love using the wheel on low powered cars, as it allows finer braking and steering inputs, but then the DS2 allows full lock to lock instantly which is nice for those 1000HP monsters. But really the only major difference to me is that the wheel is much much more fun. As you can see, hOt and holl01 can use the DS/2 quite well week after week. I drove DS/2 through the majority of my GT3 racing career, and I did really well back in the day. Before GT4 came out I took a month or two and made the full time switch to DFP so I've never even used the DS/2 for GT4. I doubt I could even place in D3 with the DS/2 now, just because I'm so used to the DFP.

Bottom line is, practice will make you faster than any type of contoller.👍

If you have some extra play money and a dedicated area to set up a DFP though it's way fun.:sly:

Agreed, i recently changed to analogue throttle/brake which changed my ability and ENJOYMENT of GT4 enormously, altough i imagine with the wheel and pedals your instantly able to left foot brake which helps with times...cheers CFM

People who don't submit times because they don't think they're competitive, well, that just makes no sense to me. I mean, this past week with the Miata, I really hated the combo. Hated the car, hated the tires and most of all, detested the track. But I still submitted a (very bad) time.

My first week, (SRT-4 in NYC) I think my time was next to last. But now I'm (usually, with some exceptions) near the top of D2. I guess I just don't get it.

And to be perfectly honest, the two weeks with the Hondas were kinda nice - we had a good core group of racers who were constantly pushing eachother. 👍

I hated it also so I didn't even try for a clean lap to submit a time. I race when I find the time and when the combo is fun for me. I don't mind if that means dropping down or off the leaderboard.

The one thing that doesn't make sense to me is not submitting a time because you're not competitive. There are always some people who don't post T-times or don't do well in the last stages of a lap so you never know who you'll be up against. I'm not about about to win a division or even grab a podium so I chose a single driver to beat when I enter (feeling the heat bleurabbit?).

I'm sure every GT racer owns and has put a zillion miles on their BMW M3 <insert variant here>, Skyline <variant>, Evo <variant> Etc.
Actually, I'd think that there are quite a few people who have stayed away from the typical cars. But then again, a lot of you are farther on in the game and have needed to drive them... I for one have not driven a skyline outside of the week 7 race, not driven an evo EVER on GT4, and have only toyed with a couple of the M3 cars on my friend's GT4 game for a couple races max.

I'd love to see a race with BMW's come up here soon... But then again, there are lots of other races that I'd love to see. We've got lots of cars to go through, and lots of time, so, here's to long live the WRS! 👍

I posted my 2'05" time knowing I'd be down the ladder this week... =] And I know I could do better, but I had no time to do it... :/

Don't know about that. It'd be an interesting Poll here on the forum's...in my experience, once a racer has found a good car to race with they tend to stick with it for a while - and since some cars tend to be better than others (obviously) I've found the trend is to stick with those cars (just with people I know though).

Since the M3 <variant> is such an incredible car, I don't see why good racers *wouldn't* use it. It's like the Audi R8 in RL - why *wouldn't* you use that car? It's dominated most races that it's been in, and for good reason - it's a great car....

So is the M3.
