My car was almost undrivable after the chrash at start, maybe it was lag or whatever, but it went fine before and directly after the race, and I did a bad start, so I could blame myself partly for that. But I think that I could have at least third place anyway, either that or everyone get the same points for last race! ;)

Otherwise I'm pleased the way race 1&2 went, extremely smooth, for me at least.

And I have to agree with @Harsk100 that the corvette was pretty slow compered to the lotus, but I liked the fact that it was easy to drive. :)

It was a good race for me.

Thanks for @eran0004 and @LexLathor for helping me on being a better driver.
I've just been watching Race 2 and switched to your view. I must say, you are unrecognizable, that's a 180 degree turning you did there man. 👍 Keep it up like that!

My race report - short:

Race 1 - good
Race 2 - good
Race 3 - nvrmnd

Although, a little more I have to add:

Siggers is an alien! Or a hacker ... No, of course he is not a hacker but man, it's been a while I have felt so humbled. The PP difference between the higher rated Alfa and the lower GT40, as used in Class P, is 41! Fourty-One!

Of course I made a ton of mistakes, got almost pushed out off track (R2) and could've gone more aggressive on Siggers in an attempt to overtake. But why risk a Class victory? And that guy just drove a very decent race, better said two races. Couldn't catch him, a motivation to practice more in the future! 👍 kudos Siggers!

R3 - Oversteeeer all the way from 15th to 4th. And then my arms started to hurt towards the end, I spun out (again) and lost several positions. What am I complaining, though. Eran had only one arm and got 3rd! 👍

Edit: And why the heck did I start from last position??

Edit2:
At these prices, I will not be whale !
Oh in Race3 you where one! An un-passable big bálna!
Maybe you didn't see me though, not complaining, it was allright. Just a bit odd you had lag but also seemed to brake incredibly early, like I would expect from someone your age but not from you. What was it?

For Race 2, thanks. Could you post a video of 180 degree turning, please?

For Race 3, I was in front (2nd), so you didn't see me.

Yor driving style. You have turned from an aggressive dirty douche to a decent gentleman, that's like a 180 degree turn in your behaviour. :)

Race 3 - wasn't talking about you.
I have to agree with Flaco, they've done a good job. No complaints from me. In fact we had a good clean battles in the earlier races
Keep it up Harsk. 👍
Thanks guys. 👍

Good racing today! Had to go straight after the race, so I didn't have time to type that in the chat...

Race 1 and 2
Was nice to drive the Alfa. Will probably take some time to get used to it, and to tweak the brakes. I might just run it with 0 ABS in the future, it's much easier to feel the grip of the front end that way... Anyway, the downforce was very handy on a track like this with so many fast corners!

Race 3
Always nice to slide around the corners in the GT40! The starting grid got a bit messed up since we restarted, but c'est la guerre.

The old injury behaved well, the only issues were when I had to do quick corrections but other than that it was fine!

Had a new epic 1960's race sound track prepared, it set the mood nicely

Race Impressions (Races 1 and 2) Round 5 Zahara

I qualified very poorly for race one with a couple of small offs (14th). I tried to make a good start, but ended up tapping the back of someone (apologies). The track was very crowded so I decided to calm down and wait for some passing opportunities which I knew would come from people sliding wide into the scenery. After making and losing a few places I found myself in 11th and chasing Buybon in his Lotus Type 47 Replica. For some reason Buybon was stopped or very slow just before the line so I managed to sneak 10th at the line.

For race two I had the benefit of starting 10th, which seemed to make a big difference - I was slightly too cautious and slipped to 11th, but got away and stayed close behind a group of fast guys and it was great to see the track so full with a multitude of colours and types of car which thanks to differing levels of driver skill were competitive with each other.and let I got ahead of a few faster drivers thanks to some unseen incidents or errors and for a while I was ahead of my Gulf Mirage team mate IfAndOr. I made a few mistakes because of the pressure from behind after feeling very guilty about holding up better drivers. For a long time I was behind Danielsspel in his Bondurant and Guldstrand Replica Corvette - it was great to see the smoke and dust from a beautiful car on the limit.

I had the gearing of the GT40 spot on, but found the car quite difficult, but enjoyable to drive as it is not very stable at the rear. I had every expectation of being one of the slowest at this meeting because I hadn't had time to practise and I really don't know this track at all well, but I was shocked by the incredible speed and lap times of @Siggers - I seemed to be losing 2 or 3 seconds at every checkpoint. To honour his incredible driving this week I will be publishing an interview with Siggers at the end of this post.

I resisted the temptation to use the driving line and it was very easy to imagine that I was driving in the real Targa Florio! On Friday evening I watched the 1965 Targa Florio clip which @Lex Lathor posted (for the third time!) - I recommend that everyone who hasn't yet seen it should do so - the colour is very faded, but the period commentary is great, but the best part for me is seeing the Ford GT40 Roadster in action driven by Sir John Whitmore and Bob Bondurant. This is a car which really ought to be in the game - later I will find the car suggestions link for it. Ford made a Roadster (Topless) version of the Ford GT40 Mark 1 specially to contest the Targa Florio and other endurance events run on tracks where the extra driver visibility was more important than absolute top speed. During the 1965 Targa Sir John loses a front knock off wheel nut and wheel while hammering down the main 6km straight.

I was really looking forward to racing my Serenissima Jungla Spyder (Jaguar XJ13) and had a good gearbox setup. I have switched to using an @praiano63 tune which was half a second a lap slower than my own tune at Brands Hatch, but worked like a dream at Deep Forest last week. It makes the car easier to drive with less understeer, but at some tracks it is slightly slower on corner exit. I found the Ford GT40 difficult to drive and thought the easy handling of the XJ13 might enable me to get a better result in race three. Sadly there was an attack of the gremlins and each time I tried to start the race the screen of my PS3 kept freezing - I think a full room and long track probably stretches the PS3 to its limits and beyond - a shame because I was enjoying the meeting and would like to use this track again next year.

Below start line shots.

Interview with Siggers

1. What is the secret behind your speed?

I don't really have a secret, but I do have a good amount of experience in online racing. I have raced in many different types of series, some with drivers much faster than myself. Watching faster drivers and learning from their lines has helped me to slowly improve, but ultimately in racing I think consistency is more important than outright speed.

2. Do you use a wheel or controller?

Wheel. When I first started with it there was a steep learning curve to overcome, but now I can set times faster than I ever could with a controller.

3. If you use a wheel, what sort of wheel and rig or stand?

Logitech DFGT mounted to my ironing board:lol:. However I am considering treating myself to a Thrustmaster t150 for Christmas in preparation for the switch to ps4.

4. How many hours per week do you practise?

For each individual event only about 20 minutes, however, before the start of a series I can easily spend over an hour learning and setting up the car(s).

5. How do you tune your cars - what do you start with first?

Tuning is a bit of a grey area for me. Originally I had no idea what I was doing, so I just used tunes posted by recognised community members. But the issue with these tunes is that they only really work if you are using the tyres that it is stated the car was tuned on. Also, there is no one tune that is perfectly suited to every track. My strategy is to create a solid base setup and then tweak it slightly for each specific venue. However, I have found some tracks like Monaco and High Speed Ring require a completely unique setup.

Whenever I get a new car the first thing I do is set the camber to 0 and the differential to 5, 10, 5. Then I perform the transmission flip trick and begin to tweak the acceleration sensitivity and suspension settings. I forced myself to learn how to tune because I was sick of using other peoples off-the-shelf setups. I am still not even close to an expert, but I will happily share my tunes for this current series once it has finished on request.

6. How long have you been playing GT?

Since just before GT4 was released, so just over 10 years :)

7. How old are you or is that private?

21 and three quarters

8. What does your family think of your hobby?

They have no idea what's so entertaining about driving round in circles.

9. What sort of car do you drive in real life?

Corsa :dunce: but I am going to be upgrading it to something more sportier soon...

10. Do you drive fast in real life?

Not really, I don't consider myself and aggressive driver. My only pet peeve is people who unnecessarily force there way out of junctions:grumpy:

11. What car would you drive if you won a lot of money?

I don't really have a favourite car, but if I had to choose it would be a Ferrari Daytona as I have a close personal connection to it from my childhood.

Let's hope you are right and it was just the full grid and long track and that your PS3 isn't damaged.

Nice interview. If I may I recommend Siggers to get the T150, it's a great wheel for the price and compatible with the Thrustmaster Pedals and shifters, which are pricey but could be found as 'used' on (insert online-auction-website). Downside is the cheap feeling plastic parts on the rim, maybe it's good to wrap something around it, like the tape you put on a tennis-racquet.
Hmm, not sure what's :dunce: about a Corsa. They're awesome!!! :D

I couldn't find any good period footage, in English, of Sports Car racing from Spa so take a moment to enjoy and prepare for Round 6 with the 1958 Grand Prix D'Europe. Our younger members will find it difficult to believe, but back in the day Motorsport was very rarely televised and most people didn't have a TV set so you followed the sport via magazines and occasionally, if you were lucky your local cinema would show a short news clip. First the Pathe News clip shown in UK Cinemas before the main feature and second a longer film of the race unlikely to have been shown in cinemas, but would have been shown, normally months after the event at motoring clubs.

Further to Sick's PS4 question...
I found this thread regarding the older Logitech wheel's incompatibility with the PS4. There appears to be this work around.

It involves a little bit of simple DIY electronics, a few cables and does require you to have a PC running, but it appears to work.
And other than the cheap cost of the electronic parts, it's free.

The free GIMX software on the PC "talks" to the PS4 via the DIY adapter to fool it into thinking that a G29 is attached. It does this by using the G29 information released by Logitech and the use of the authentication chip in the connected DS4. It then takes input signals from a G27/DFGT which it converts and outputs them as a G29 to the PS4 while receiving and sending FFB signals to the G27/DFGT. Seems quite clever.

Although a bit "messy" with the box, cables and PC it's certainly cheaper than a new wheel.

Neat stuff, thanks for sharing @IfAndOr! 👍 Will definitely look into this! A Raspberry Pi (small "PC") goes for 30-50€, and that seems all you need to use this! :dopey: And the software is even open-source, so if something fails or doesn't work correctly, we can fix it ourselves. 👍

This must've been figuered out by someone working at Volkswagen . Nice find.👍

No. That'll be the adapter that displays as a high end Fanatec when all you've got is a DS3 controller with a broken thumb switch. :mischievous:

A Raspberry Pi (small "PC") goes for 30-50€, and that seems all you need to use this!
That's true, there is the RaPi option which would make it a little neater.

I forgot mention you do require a PS4 as well. :)

Just thought I'd share this picture I did for my cousin who bought this car.
You are very talented.
I've never been able to draw anything.

Have you been for a ride in the car yet?

D'oh! Can you hear me, Santa? ;)
@S_Bridge - since we now know the reason you can't race over the winter is because you're Santa. :P
Tarnheld's after a PS4 for Christmas. Could you put him on your list please?
I'm sure he's been a good boy. (You'd better check though, if he hasn't I'll have it.)

I get put on the naughty step all the time...

Seems strange seeing you run mid pack pimiki. You have always been such a fast driver, I'm sure you are getting everything out of your current cars.
