Hi XK50 - I'm sorry, but I am not expecting there to be any vacant grid slots for today's meeting, however if anyone is absent I will send you a message via the PS3 at 17:05. Regarding the Jaguar XJ13 for race 3 - do you have a Ferrari 330 P4 or Chaparral 2D? Either of those would be ok. The Chaparral is relatively cheap.
Yeah, I'm nearly there got £15 mill but I have completed the game bar seasonal events which arnt as regular as the used to be. I may have a Ferrari tho but I'll see what I can do. Hope the racing was good for all! Amazing track spa! Might see you next week if possible!

Sorry I couldn't do the tribute I had to rush off for another job.

All three races were quite laggy for me, I noticed this week we were in an open lobby room instead of the club room; I think the club room has been much better on connections whenever we have used it.

The final race I crossed the line 1st but it put me down as 2nd with a -0.192 split instead of the usual +x.xxx. The win was gifted to me though by Harsk doing a Miley Cyrus in the final corner.
It's alright Siggers, I had commited a mistake, so I had to return back the position to you, guys. You deserved the win. 👍

Don't worry Sig. I have proof that your finish time was before mine. I'll post it if Sick needs me to. If I win, I gotta win fair and square.

That was odd by the game - I have Siggers as the winner and Manasseh as second.

Hi XK50 - get the Chaparral 2D instead - it laps faster than the Ferrari or Jaguar and only costs about 3.5m. That way you will have some money left for other cars and it would be a great shame to use up all your credits on one car when potentially a slot might not come up for you to try it out - this series is proving to be our most popular so far. Stick with us because a slot will come up sooner or later and we have some very exciting series planned for 2016 and beyond. I strongly recommend doing the seasonal events as they pay well. The beginner and intermediate events are quick, pay well and aren't normally difficult. If I do the time trial ones I normally stop after the first gold lap as they only pay out once and I find them boring. I don't bother with the drift events because I find them too difficult, but a lot of people do those as well to get the credits.

I really enjoyed the meeting this evening and was expecting worse results as I hadn't had time to practise. I was lucky to get an 8th in race one after qualifying near the back. I use a wheel and I think wheel users have a big advantage over hand controller users at the start - this is where I normally make up the most places. There were some incidents ahead of me which caused faster drivers to lose places and enabled me to get a better finish. In race two I managed to improve my best lap by about a second, but was less consistent with times as I struggled with concentration. The Ford GT40 on Sports Hards seemed particularly hard to control at Spa and at times it was like driving on ice or with a car dripping oil onto the back tyres. Spa really punishes you if you brake too late on any of the corners as you slip wide into the gravel. I think at turn one you can lose about half a second braking too early, but about a full second if you brake too late and slip wide.

In race three I was using my Serenissima Jungla Spyder Replica (Jaguar XJ13) and now that I am using the @praiano63 tune found it night and day better to drive than the GT40 - it was much easier to turn in while still braking whereas the GT40 has to lose its speed before the corner. In real life I don't think the XJ13 would have been as good as it is in the game - the heavy sixty degree V12 with its XK based cylinder heads gave the car a high centre of gravity at the rear. At the time Jaguar were strangely anti V8 engines, perhaps for marketing reasons they felt they needed a V12 in their road cars for the US market and the V12 was conceived as both a four cam race engine and two cam road engine. In my view this was a costly mistake as after taking over Daimler they inherited two magnificent hemi head V8's designed by Edward Turner and the larger of the two was tested in a Jaguar saloon with excellent results. Enlargement to five litres and improvement / updating of the induction would have been more sensible than proceeding with the road V12, whose development costs, coupled with the disastrous sales of the Mark 10 saloon led to them being taken over by British Leyland.

Big congratulations to SimbaLora on his first podium (scored in race two) - probably the first of many I expect. When Simba passed me I tried to copy his lines and braking points, but just ended up braking too late and sliding off the track.

Race results and championship points to follow.

1967 Results Comparison.jpg

I thought it would be interesting to compare our results with those achieved in the Spa 1000Km Sports Car race held in 1967 - lots of similarities and some famous names.

Below Championship Points - Currently Siggers leads overall with Manasseh close behind. Lex Lathor is leading GT3 closely followed by Pimiki while in GT5 Danielsspel, Buybon and Bloodyboyblue couldn't be closer.

Below congratulations to all drivers and especially the podium finishers.

Above comparison between our results and those from the Spa 1000Km held in 1966 - again lots of similarities and some famous names.

Below Championship Points - At the half way point Siggers has a big lead in the overall competition, but GT40 honours are closely fought between Lex Lathor, Pimiki and Flaco. The latter is our featured driver this week so the post will finish with an interview with Flaco.

Below congratulations to all drivers and especially the podium finishers.

Interview with Flaco

1. What is the secret behind your speed?

While this question comes at a time I could easily take it as sarcasm , thinking back to the CAN AM series where I got Champion, it might have to do a lot with feeling comfortable with the car as it is, the more I can 'become one' with a car the better I can get with it. And it doesn't have to be a great handling car, of course the Toyota 7 is a wild beast, but I just loved every second in it; the situations it put me in and how it handled/reacted to the input I gave it. All in all - though I think I'm not the fastest hot-lapper but I can adapt to a differently behaving car rather quickly; I am able to achieve good consinstency during races, which plays a huge role aswell and I am patient and careful at race starts and overtaking attempts, which I imagine has caused less troubles and spinnings then it might've done if I wasn't, this therefore turns into an advantage at later stages.

2. Do you use a wheel or controller?

Wheel. I bought it some time after GT5 came out and used it in our competition since I joined. Before that I spent quite some time with the controller and albeit I'm not able to go the same pace in it, it helped me to at least get a few points over the last rounds, where I had to go back on using the controller because the wheel was needed at a place away from my home to fit a rig around it. But it's back with me now.

3. If you use a wheel, what sort of wheel and rig or stand?

G27. Great wheel, never let me down over the years (actually the shifter broke and was replaced). My Dad helped me in developing a self-made rig (actually, he did most of the built) which will soon be at my place. Until then, I have the G27 mounted to a table and I'm sitting in a one-seater Sofa. I've prepared myself for the PS4 in buying a T150 wheel. Recommandable wheel for a good price for anyone considering to go next-gen without spending fortunes. Currently it is used by fellow racer SimbaLora (my Dad, btw!) but I will use that one in the future along with the rig.

4. How many hours per week do you practise?

My profession as a truck driver (that's 'lorry' for the UK reader) doesn't help me with that at all. If I'm lucky I get to 2-3 hours per week, most of it is on Saturday's and Sunday's before the races, including tuning that's let's say 4-5 hours.

5. How do you tune your cars - what do you start with first?

Always start with the transmission, then the differential. If you get a good result with those that's already 75% of all you'll need, the rest is fine tuning. The aim is for an 'as-neutral-as-possible' corner exiting and 'just-as-oversteering-as-necessary' corner entering car. Just give it a tiny bit of oversteer so you have some space to 'play' with the car, but I like neutral handling because it helps with being consistent.

6. How long have you been playing GT?

Since Gran Turismo first came out on the first Playstation, I had every major title plus GT5-Prologue. My favourite title has to be GT3, I have a PS2 at home and I will soon purchase GT3 again for some nostalgia.

7. How old are you or is that private?

33

8. What does your family think of your hobby?

I'm single and live alone. I introduced my Dad into GT a few month back, he started out with GT5 and is now part of our little community.

9. What sort of car do you drive in real life?

2009 Opel Corsa (D) 5-door GSi. I think Vauxhall didn't make those or at least didn't label them as GSi's, it's basically a 5-door Corsa with the 1.6 Liter Turbo engine from the OPC (VXR) and 150bhp. I love it, it's great fun. Best car I've owned was an Oldsmobile 98 Regency Coupe white outside-red interieur, I had her when I lived in Kuwait. With the bench seats up front you could easily place four Filipina's there plus six or seven more in the back! :D (No, I'm not a pimp I actually just took them to Church on Sunday's)

10. Do you drive fast in real life?

Whenever I'm not carrying eleven Filipinas, yes. In Germany there is the 'Autobahn' of course but what's far more interesting are the National Roads; the windy and twisty bits. You can find them everywhere in the country and with a speed limit of 100kph on those you don't really need to exceed that limit since you barely reach it in the corners, getting around them as close to it as possible is the sport, though! ;) Of course I am careful enough not to put others in danger by thinking-ahead; keep distance to those in front; don't speed within city-limits and chose a time of day where not many other people are to be expected driving there. When in other countries I pay extra attention because of the high fines, for example I love to go to Austria to drive up and down the Silvretta, a winding road with lots of hairpins. Getting caught speeding there could cost me a monthly wage or more. But it's a lot of fun. And to really get to the limit there's always 'Hockenheim', which is a stones throw away; the 'Anneau du Rhin' my 'local track' so to say and of course the 'Nürburgring Nordschleife' is also just a 2.5 hrs drive from home. (OK, I'll make that in 1.5 :P). Tarnheld is not a german Cop, I hope... :scared:

11. What car would you drive if you won a lot of money?

What's 'a lot'? Let's say a couple of million... First of all I'd purchase one of the few Lotus Carlton/Omega left around. An Opel Manta B GSi and then a Cadillac CTS-V or a Vauxhall VXR8/Holden HSV ... the rest of the money I'd best save for fuel!

In Thursday, I'm free for practice for the Laguna Seca. What do you think if we do the practice in Laguna Seca in this thursday? I hadn't practised nothing at all in Spa.

@Sick Cylinder There seems to be a couple of errors in the three ten cup table:

Round 7: There are two 7 points and no 8 points.
Round 8: There are two 8 points and no 7 points (so probably one of the 8 points belong to round 7, and vice versa).

Round 9: There are two 9 points and no 13 points.
Round 10: There are two 13 points and no 9 points (probably the same as round 7 and 8).

Edit: Also, if you make a column for "Class", you can sort the table by class and then by score. It will make it easier to see the standings within each class :)

Edit 2: Can I join the GT5 class*? I feel that my 65 points belongs better there than in the GT3 class

(*Just kidding)

Were GT+5.0 Class cars based on the road cars homologations?

For example: The Shelby GT350R is based on the regular Shelby GT350. We currently have a Shelby GT350R in GT6.

So, if you're considering on doing the 2nd season of 1967 Sports Ten Cup, then we could use the standard Shelby GT350R instead of premium regular Shelby GT350. What do you think?

Currently it is used by fellow racer SimbaLora (my Dad, btw!)

SimbaLora is your dad? No wonder both of y'all are so fast. Like father like son I suppose lol.

Whenever I'm not carrying eleven Filipinas,

Ya mind flying some of them my way @Flaco13 ? :sly: I like filipina women. :embarrassed: (If that's what you meant lol)

That was odd by the game - I have Siggers as the winner and Manasseh as second.

I have now got a chaparral so I can join in if a space may come available. As soon as I have enough for a XJ13 I will purchase it as I've always wanted one! Well done to all those who raced. May see you next Sunday!

Just asking, are there any free spaces? I'm interested.

Sorry CrazyJohn - we are currently full with 16 regular drivers and 6 reserves, so I can't sign up any more drivers, but if anyone drops out I will contact you.

@Sick Cylinder There seems to be a couple of errors in the three ten cup table.

Thanks for spotting these Eran - I will correct the table when I post results from the next round.

Do I still have a chance to fight for the GT5 champion crown?

There are still six rounds left with a potential 300 points up for grabs in the "1967 Three Ten Cup".

Le Mans had a lot of classes so for this championship I simplified it into three, based on affordability of the cars in the game and lap times. The Dubois Tuerlinckx Mustang was entered as a GT350 in class GT5.0. Where possible I avoid the non-premium cars. I added the Lotus and Corvette to create an affordable GT5 class, but in reality the Lotus Type 47 was a prototype in P1.6 and the Corvette was a GT in GT+5.0. The series was inspired by the 1967 Le Mans entry, but it is not possible in GT6 to exactly replicate historic events - I use them for inspiration and try to find appropriate substitute cars.

Rather than a second season of the "Three Ten Cup" I am working on a similar series inspired by Sebring, hopefully to run next autumn.

I found this great footage of sports car racing at Laguna Seca in 1963 - enjoy watching Jim Clark, Graham Hill and Pedro Rodriguez battling with the best American drivers of the time such as A J Foyt and the incredible Dave MacDonald. Sadly Dave was killed racing at Indy in 1964 at the age of just 27. When the commentator says Cobra or King Cobra, he is referring to the Cooper Monaco's to which Carroll Shelby fitted a 4.7 litre Cobra engine. The second clip shows the creation of the Corvette C2 prototype with development driving by Dave MacDonald and Dr Dick Thompson.

Next Round - Laguna Seca

@Sick Cylinder - There is 1 spot for the 1967 Three Ten Cup.

For the Sebring, okay. Do you want me to help you with the Sebring series?

@Sick Cylinder When the three lowest scores are dropped is this referring to three whole weekends or three individual races?

The reason I ask is because I won't be able to make all three races this weekend as I need to be leaving at around 6.30. I can do the first race but only the second if we start bang on time, and definitely can't make the third.
