Got fed up of watching after the player managed to go from last to first in a lap. I hope the AI isn't so slow in the full version for those who get it.

Once again, if it's like their bike games, then the highest difficulty levels will probably seriously challenge you.

Loks very good, dose remind me of the original toca series alot. you could see on the harder dificulty level the driver was strugeling to make headway on the compertition with the AI taking numerous lines to pass him and each other. very hard to tell much about the physics from the fhird person view but nice to see the cars wern't doing the arcade tail happy thing, nor playing bumper cars. Good to finaly see a bonet and bumper cam view! Video quality is as usual, low quality so graphics are hard to judge, but everything certainly looked smooth. I'm defernatly picking this up, the only negative I saw was the slide, looked a little odd, but again 3rd person view and hard to see how it was corected by the driver. I'll go check out the 360 and see if theres a demo up on live.

Yep Demo is on Live on the 360, just downloading it so I'll post up a little review in half an hour or so

Good man Hereward!

Doesn't seem to be a cockpit view, can live with the bonnet view though if handling is good.

Look forward to it Hereward.

Will we get a PS3 demo tomorrow? Can't find any info on it.

I might try to rent this as I want to see how it is (or work) with the G25. Anything like Grid and I won't bother probably. Some of the tracks are intriguing so if its not too good then I'll look for a cheap copy months later.

Right Well First up I'll start with the obvious, It's a demo and a very small file size at that, around 256Mb, so there are many features missing, secondly although it suports the 360 wheel (good omen for PS3 G25 owners) I had to use a pad, which really hampered my feeling of the cars.
Ok First up I raced on simulation mode, tried a few AI settings but settled on normal (which after an hour I managed to finish 1st place with (hard, and hardcore are just that) I also turned all the assists off and raced on both dry and wet tracks (yes it makes a noticable difference) I also had damage on, tyre wear on and penalties on.
Right then again refere back to the first bit, its a demo and I used a pad. The graphics are good, I'd say better than race pro and on a par if not slightly better than FC, they are silky smooth however, never saw a hint of slowdown even with a full grid in front of me all jumping on the brakes. I didn't however see any tyre smoke or skid marks (again demo)
Sound wise it;s very good, the V8's sound like V8's and theres that distinctive syncro whine plus some nice audiable gear changes, tyre noise however was a little sparse ( again demo?)
Right now the handleing......hmm......I raced mostly in bumper cam mode and again I'm stressing the pad issue! I'd have to say it is simulation like, theres no Grid esq pole motion going on, I could put the car on the apex and if I gave it too much it would slide out. The cars feel weighty and grounded on the track but the sliding is a little, "your along for the ride" kill the power and steer into it usualy corrects things but it didn't feel progresive, again I was getting very little feed back from the pad. ( I rarely play the 360 so the pad feels odd) Right in it's favour however I could see and feel that this game looks to be desighned for use with the wheel and the pad is a little under sensertive, but being a demo I couldn't alter that. The physics arn't bad but they felt a little muted. What didn't help was starting in the A4 Quatro LOL I took the M5 out then things looked and felt much better! On the whole I'd say handleing is not as good as GT5p or FC but it's not far off and AGAIN I WAS ON AN UNFAMILIAR PAD!
Next up the AI......very very good! not overly agresive but it will punt you back if you push them, on normal dificulty it took me 5 good clean laps to get to the front of the field on a dry track, wet track and I was top 8. A quick word about damage, visualy theres not alot to write home about but on the tacho you have damage meters for various items including tyre wear, this was my biggest concersn, not in a bad way but in a good way, you really need to yake care of your rubber! it's quite evident in the handleing as your tyes start to deteriate. I did bomb into the pits on one lap but again demo......speed reduced to pit speed through them but the car didn't stop. last point on damage, I stuffed the car in a wall and damage the steering which left the car pulling to the left quite noticabley which was good, also hitting the brakes hard for some turns also induced the car getting out of shape.

Overall, I'm hooked, I hope the demo lands on the PS3 tommorow so I can use the wheel as I feel that will improve the nigles I have, but as it stands I will definatly be buying this, lots of options and if the online is solid this should be a must have title.

Any specific questions I'll try and awnser them guys or if anyone else has downloaded the 360 demo, whats your take on it?

Quick addition, right there is tyre marks and there is tyre smoke, along with smoke from the font end when the car is damaged. not hollywood amounts mind you but it is there, I think the problem I'm having with the pad is similar to that I had with the pad on FC, where it "auto" corects for your imputs when using a pad, by that I mean give it full lock at 20 mph then give it full lock at 80 mph and the game wont actualy give you full lock at 80mph, this should be sorted with the wheel as with FC. This is giving me a "dulled" steering response with the pad as I'm used to driving with the wheel on the PS3

Seems decent, handlings pretty similair to Race Pro. although they feel like they have a bit too much grip and the controls on the demo are awful (Y to change up and B to change down on 360)

Shame that they don't have liscences for all the cars.

Mercedes C-Class= Scorpio IZ4
Cadillac CTS-V= Mustard E1
Chrysler 300C= Barricade DM
Ford Falcon (I think)= Cluster S3-P

The real cars are the M3 E90, E60 550, the old M5, Jag S-Type R and the RS4.

Just gonna try the rain now.

I think I read in the 360 section that there isn't a cockpit view. Can anyone confirm this, at least for the demo?

If there isn't, then I guess all my talking was for nothing, but it still sounds like it's gonna be a good game from Hereward's "review."

I'm playing it now and no cockpit view.

No demo on the EU store for PSN :(

If I bought a 360 and downloaded it with silver membership tomorrow its still no interest as I can't use the G25. Hopeless. I might buy one with a Fanatec but even those wheels are just being sent out lol.

PS3 is bigger in the EU and I think spain, Italy for sure but no demo.

Yep no demo for PS3 today, and I'll double confirm theres no cockpit view, just 2 rear of car views, a bonet view and a bumper view. Also it dosn't rain....rather the track is wet, nice puddle effects on the wet track though. I had a little go with the assists on today as I really am strugeling with the 360 pad (sorry 360 fans I'm just a devote of the wheel now) but anyway with the assists on it gave me a little more control as the wheel should do and it really allowed me to concerntrate on racing rather than corner entry speeds LOL I'll second duffers point about the cars feeling a little too gripy but again I'm putting it down to the "auto steer" on the pad.
Two things I didn't mention and they really are key points iare firstly the sense of speed. It's got it nailed, at normal race pace it's not too quick to be an issue when putting your car on the right piece of tarmac but get a long straight and really crank it up you certainly get that "on the edge of control" feeling. Secondly, I mentioned the AI but I didn't mention the "feel" of races......this really is a biggy
Remember TOCA and the constant close racing, fighting for each and every position through the entire race. It is what made it a classic, well, SC V8 has that adsact same intensity! Your constantly fighting the guy in front and defending off the guy behind as you slowly work your way up the field throughout the race, close racing, good AI which dosn't try and kill you at every turn but will make a move from the slightest open door. The pad handeling really I think is setup for driving in arcade mode or with the assists on, it's actualy quite enjoyable in these modes but I think to really get to grips with it you'll need a wheel.....I hope this is the case......If they have nailed it with the wheel coupled with the strong AI, and hopefully a solid online system this game could quite easily be a cult classic! don't forget theres all the tuning aspects which the demo dosn't give you access to! From what I've seen and if what I suspect is correct this is going to give us a serious racing experience, and one which will have a huge following in the sim comunity......I could of course be wrong and the wheel suport may be terible...in which case this game could be a "could have been" Heres hoping I'm right, and roll on the PS3 demo so we can all see if the wheel really opens up the game.

Yeah I remember the Toca(PS1) races being very intense compared to other games. GT AI is non-existent back then and probably still is. GT is just a great driving game in my opinion.

Maybe it was because I was 15 years old in the PS1 days but Toca was great. Do one wrong move and you might as well restart if you wanted first place, plus getting hustled by the Honda (or was it the Nissan?) lol. Again, probably rose tinted glasses but I really want that Toca experience on PS3. Obviously online is the big deal these days and AI in todays games feels pointless. Maybe they've got it right.

Anyone remember the fog in old Toca, you really had to know the track with the grey pull down.

I don't mind that it's not actually raining. SBK-08 had the option, while MotoGP 08 only had a wet option, but I couldn't really tell a difference.

Edit: And I'm glad to hear it's like TOCA. I enjoyed the old ones, and how the racing always had some action going on.

Theres still regular races on TOCA 3 over at UKOG, huge following and still a big comunity, if they can nail it hopefully we'll have a cult game on our hands

I played the poop outta Pro Race Driver, TOCA2, and TOCA3. I remember the day TOCA3 came out I was calling everyone to see if they had it and only one Gamestop had it in a 10 mile radius.

No tearing and rock solid frame rate, 18 cars in front of me, first bend lots of brake lights no slowdown! and also no pop in of fogy draw distance. Alls well on the western front LOL

That actually makes me feel better, as the bike games had some pretty noticeable slowdown in the wet areas, even in the MotoGP and SBK classes where there are hardly any bikes on screen.

But I guess that's because the bikes were so detailed and they also had to reflect on the ground, so basically 2x renders.

Hmm second review score in, 65%, big difference to the 8/10.....I do feel this game is teetering between good and average. For me i's all resting on how the wheel brings out the physics, couple of youtube vids of the demo up, the usual poor driving so I won't bother posting them up. Has anyone tried the 360 demo with the wheel? come on this is driving me mad!

Hi Hereward a few guys at UKOG have used the wheel and there saying there is no FFB unfortunately. It could be different on the ps3 hopefully fingers crossed.

Heres hopeing Gordie........I'll put it down to it being a Demo, but if the FFB is absent then it looks bad! Hopefully the PS3 Demo should hit this thursday if they've done one.

But you have to remember the Xbox hasn't always had great FFB where as the ps3 has.I think we will get a totally different feel for this on the ps3.

Yeah The titles available on PC as well (I'm sure it is) and with the PS£ FFB system being practicaly identicle (Unlike the 360) to the PC I would be suprised if they "just forgot"
Like I said in my review of the 360 demo, the pad leaves a little to be desired but if they get the wheel right then it's a classic, if they muck the wheel up then..........
I'm 80% confident at this point but a PS3 demo would go along way to clear that 20% doubt.
