AS for the Demo......fingers crossed.

Getting info on this game is nearly as bad as finding coloberating info on ArmA II for the PS3, or as dificult as pulling out hens teeth....take your pick! heres 2 videos to tide you over guys

hi to everybody :)
there are few information on this game ,in some forums Italian boys that have tried the demo xbox360 they don't seem satisfied :ill:
my impression and' that he remembers some Toca series ,but I have not tried the demo, I attend that for PC or PS3 demo .

we hope in a good surprise 👍:)

I just hit the demo again for a couple of hours, Finaly got my head around the controler, talk about a feather like touch LOL Took the audi out and trounced the normal level over 5 laps, also managed 1'st place on hard so I went for hardcore, on full sim all the assists off.....well I tried LOL managed 15th
You really need to put alot of time into this game to get to grips with it. what throws you is the speed at which your tires go off and the adverse effect it has, 3 laps in and it turns into a game of smooth in, smooth out. You tend to burn the tires up early on using the extra grip to make up places early on, then by the last laps your defending in the slow corners and trying to keep up in the fast ones. The physics coupled with the pad are very subtle and once you key into this you start to see the game shine.
For those who got the 360 demo, start with the RS4 in the dry, turn everything off but keep the tyre wear switched off till you get the track sorted in your head, then turn it on.
I can see with championships and tuning plus pit stops (hopefully) and qualifieing this is going to be fantastic.

A lot of people have said that and dismissed this game too soon.

They've got the settings wrong!

I only found this because I was playing with the settings while trying to make it playable for my 7 Year old son.

When you select Driving Assists in the options You can select between "Arcade" and "Simulation", at the top, under where it says Driving aids and above where it says TCS.

If you then change the assists in the chosen mode it becomes "Custom"

However if you -for instance- have "Arcade Style" selected then turn off assists the Style will still be "Customised Arcade"

Whereas if you have "Simulation Style" selected then change an auto gearbox for manual the style will be "Customised Simulation"

The two different styles create a very different driving experience. I can go 10 seconds a lap faster in Custom Arcade than I can in Custom Simulation. And I've tested it on my Son set with Custom Arcade Assists ON and Custom Simulation Assists ON and he can barely drive in Sim where he drives pretty well in Arcade.

This is actually looking like a very good Sim. I'm sure you're playing it on Arcade instead of Sim, the more I play the more impressed I am.

I am very impressed that I can make this game enough of a challenge for me (I have a few top 10 and quite a few top 100 times in RACE Pro and am a better racer than hotlapper so consider myself at the high end of average and no slouch) Yet easy enough without being patronising for my 7 year old to play too. That's a very hard thing to do, it's something T10 are making a massive song and dance about with Forza 3 while Milestone/Black Bean have queitly got on with it and pulled it off.

I've Just done a wet race In Sim setting and No assists and found that My fastest lap is 7 seconds a lap slower than my Dry times..............ABOUT TIME, TAKE A HINT SIMBIN!

The contact in the race seems brilliant, you can run side by side without being taken out, you can nudge without damage, and you can be nudged (If you deserve it) without it ending your race.

The damage seems pretty good if not spectacular. If you hit other cars too hard you can damage the Steering so that you need an ammount of lock to keep in a straight line, you can damage the gears and you can damage the brakes too and it affects your stability under braking. The visible damage is limited to the front a rear bumpers flapping around, but to me the performance affect from damage is far more important in a sim that creating spectacular crashes. TAKE A HINT SYSTEM3!

After the race I watched the replay....the replay options are great!

Very much like Forza (No Telemetary) you can slow the replay down by 2X or speed it up 2X,

You can view every car in the race from all driving perspectives and a TV show type view

You can pause the replay and then move the camera around like when you take a photo in Forza.

All That's Missing Is:

ForceFeedback..................Absolutely Imperetive these days

Mirrors or some kind of indicator for the cars around you.

Working Pit lane

All of the above I believe will be in the finished version

Cockpit view (although I don't use it there are many who think it adds to the realism......I don't but if a game wants to sell these days it's become the new standard by which a lot of games are compared)

I doubt cockpit will make it to the game....but frankly I don't care, I don't use it LOL

JB's Rating

7/10

Good for a demo, room for improvement but we'll see what the finished article is like and I really hope a demo comes out on PS3 soon too.

Nope I'm definatly on simulation, I just rarely use the 360 and more importantly the 360 pad, plus It's been a while since I drove a sim with a pad LOL, Right thats my racing excuses out the way, I take it you were using the 360 wheel? How was the steering progresion compared to the pad?

thanks jonboy1066 for your excellent explanation 👍:)
I have the beta of supercar challenge ,but it seems that SC will go out' in 2 months (next August?) :indiff:
if they release a demo of Superstars V8 I am curious to see the difference,Milestone has realized good products in past .
I also have GTR evolution on pc (good sim ),but I would like a racing interesting game on PS3 waiting for GT5,and by now I have consumed GT5 prologue...:) .

in Italy they say that Supertars V8 is released on June 26 and' correct?
thanks hi ,and we wait with trust 👍

Hi mate, yeah I can see from your post that you're on simulation, but I've seen a lot of other posts on other forums where people are claiming that:

"This game suxxors!, I can beat the AI by a mile on legendary"

When all they've done is take on the AI in Arcade mode, without realising the need to change to Simulation mode.

I've been using the Logitech DFX wheel and frankly there is no feedback at all, it feels the same as the Pre patched RACE Pro did, I hear that people using the Microshaft wheel are getting some kind of rumble.

The steering progression is ok, at first it feels quite slow but now I'm not so sure.

I would advise the opposite to you about using the Audi first, I just used it and found it too easy and I think it'll give people the impression that this game is easy too early, when the tyres go off it's no-where near the drama as it is when they go off on a RWD car, and cornering is easier too with mistakes being covered by the 4WD. I started with the BMW that you get as default, then used the Jag, and have now moved to the Chrylsler 300C

I like the way that the tyres drop off, it seems these days that in many kinds of real motorsport the tyres do the same thing, they gives bags of grip up to a certain critical moment when they just go over the edge and are knackered. The tyre wear in V8's seems to have been programmed in intelligently so that no matter how many laps you've set the race for, the tyres will last right up to the last 2-3 laps, then they become shoddy and lap times go down by 5 seconds. Hopefully if there's a fully working pit lane tis should add an interesting strategic element to the game online.

Thanks Pino-r and you're welcome, I also have the SuperCar Challenge Beta, and am hoping for a PS3 demo for V8's soon so that I can make a propper and more accurate comparison.

Between SCC and V8's I think it's going to be a question of your own personal priorities if you are choosing between the two games or deciding which compromise you are more willing to accept.

V8's has good handling, it's very much like ToCA Race Driver 3 on Pro Sim settings, good damage, good tyre wear........possibly a pit lane.

SCC has Great handling but no damage, tyre wear or pit lane.

Both games have awesome tracks

Seems to me like:

  • Milestone are simulating the racing experience very well with not bad handling,
  • While Eutechnyx are simulating the driving experience very well with not bad racing.

Neither game is perfect but both will make for nice gap fillers untill GT5 & Forza III

I'm tempted to wait until the price drops for V8's as I think it's a bit of a niche which wont be too popular, then possibly buy V8's for XBox and PS3 which will give me the chance to race with all of my friends instead of racing exclusively with one lot or the other.

I've done a video review of this demo and have uploaded it to Youtube. Bear with it I've never done any video editing before and never done a review before so I think it's not bad for a first go.

Here you go:

The lighting quality's not that great, sorry about that, but it's taught me some valuable lessons for next time I do a review.

Nice review matey, Hard to talk and race eh LOL. Look foreward to some more stuff on youtube from ya, I had seen that video, didn't realise it was yours.

unfortunately I don't speak English :nervous: ,
I believe that this game and' underestimated from many .
nice review thanks 👍

Well after yet another long session on the demo, I have to say this game just continues to grow on me, I've found my limit with the pad which is simulation, all the aids off with the tyre wear ect on, full race (14 laps) dry, starting position 10th. Trying out the different cars and noticeing the subtle differences, have to say the M5 and the Merc are getting the most hammer at the moment. Also the subtle physics nuances are starting to shine through now, the down force at speed adding grip quite noticabley especialy as the tires are going off. Also I checked and there is quite a bit of "auto steer" with the pad which watching john's video is not in evidence on the wheel, although it's not as pronounced as with FC on the pad.
The more you play the more you get used to the quite complex physics and the more the game opens up to you. I would definatly compare it with TOCA 3 but I would say the physics are more rewarding but not imediatly. I'm now competly sold on the game and would recomend it to any sim fan, If it has FFB and pitstops, both are very likely (drive into the pits and pitlane speed is aplied to the car in the demo) then this is going to be a very popular online racer, so lets hope they have that side of things sorted out as well. Thats not takng anything awat from single player, with the reported level of tuning available and the variety of tracks.
Sorry to keep harping on about this game but it gives you that old TOCA buzz of close celibral racing and you just have to try it for yourselves! Heres hopeing the PS3 demo hits this thursday.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this oppinion Hereward, I was beginning to think I was going mad and was a lone ship in a sea of negativity 'till I saw your posts. LOL

I hope you don't mind but I'm gonna use a quote of your post above on a couple of other forums where there are a lot of doubters.

No problems, The game really dose need to be given time for you to apreciate it, the physics are subtle, realistic, but not instantly acesable. Which is a slight problem with the demo. people tend to try it for an hour then dismiss it because they haven't got to grips with it. You have to admit it has a steep learning curve, especialy for those not used to sim racers!
It is however worth the efort!

Ho hum, it's released next Friday so there may not be a PS3 Demo! Looking at the PR this game is getting from Black Bean it really dosn't suprise me in the least! Oh well looks like I'll have to battle on with the hateful 360 pad then LOL

Mate, have you considered getting a Fanatec wheel? I know it's expensive and not out till September, but if -like me- you've got both consoles it'll work on 'em both and you'll get the same awesome driving experience whether you're playing ForzaIII, GT5, V8's, RACE Pro, ferrari Challenge, Supercar Challenge or anything else.

One expensive but high quality wheel that works on 3 major gaming platforms seems well worth it to me. But I would say that, I ordered mine in November for a big discount LOL

I recently got the GT DF and I spend most of my time on the PS3 so I'm loathed to get another wheel. Mavbe I'll pick something up for Forza3 but I suspect GT5 will be taking up my time at that point. Used to have the 360 wheel, wish I still had it for race pro and the likes......maybe if I see a cheap one I'll grab one.......scuttles of on e-bay.

And getting back on topic........

Me mucking around

Oh yeah John I've posted up on UKOG to bolster your standpoint, seems your slowly enlightening a few nay sayers LOL

There is something about the graphics that I find very appealing! They all look so hazy. And the lighting is also very unique (in a positive way).

Too bad I don't have a PS3 anymore. :(

pics taken with a camera off the screen so detail is actualy better in game, but it dose have that "grity" feel to the lighting.

Edit

Just in case those pics give the impresion that you can hang the back out round the bends, you can't, or rather you can but you'll soon end up at the back of the pack with flat tires LOL I was just playing with the sim physics, the usual donuts and big powerslides.....The RS4 pic was actualy giving the 4WD Audi the donut treatment, thus the 4 black lines of rubber, think I destroyed the tires after about 5 turns! The pics were done by pauseing then going to the freeview cam system, if you position the camera then wait 10 seconds the on screen display bar disapears to give you a full screen view, could be tied in with the PS3 screen capture system which has yet to be fully uterlised?

Saw my brother playing on the demo yesterday on the hateful craphole 360 and was listening to him eating his words.

He is of the opinion that unless he thinks that a game looks good, he hates it.

Laugh in his face because after playing the demo, he loves the game
