Well it turns out it was released here already. I drove about 30 miles out of my way to get it and I've played it for about an hour and a half so far.

My first impressions are it's Shift 2 with only Ferrari, and for me personally, that is a good thing. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to test it with my G27, but it feels nice with the gamepad. I don't notice any input lag with the DualShock 3 and the game looks good and sounds great. The YouTube videos don't really do the game justice and like the Shift games the physics look a lot worse when you use an outside view for the driving position. If you use the cockpit or hood cam the cars look a lot more planted, and when your driving there is a bit of sliding but again, it's like Shift 2.

So far I'd say it was worth the asking price and I'll be getting a lot more enjoyment from it the next few days. I'll also be trying to get a few races in with my wheel and see how it performs.

How precise are the classic F1 cars and old Hockenheim ring? I might get this game, or Batman arkham city if TD:F isn't that good.

Looking at the videos of this game gives me that bad taste that Shift 2 left in my mouth. When I first played the Project cars I had that same taste... However, they massively massively improved that game and now PCars feels fantastic to play and drive with the big input issues and horrible driving feel squished and fixed..

If this is made on the same engine by the same people (i think its the same?) then why would it not be running on the vastly improved Pcars version of the engine. It makes me sad because I love Ferrari and this looks like a title I would buy, but I just could not see myself putting money into another waste of time like Shift 2 was for me.

Why is it a shame?

Because many people who bought Shift 2 hated it and traded it in?

Me included. Subjective of course.

@Bigbazz. Shift, Shift 2 and this game may have been made by the the same developer as PCars but it's the publisher who dictates how a game turns out.

Since they publish PCars themselves, they can make it how they want it.

I hate the internet age. Its sad how fast people nowadays quickly dismiss stuff based on hearsay and throw around words like "shame" etc.

I ll at least test drive (pun intended) it and make my own impression of it. The videos dont look too bad, physics wise - though of course not pCARS level. BTW @ BigBazz: Its not like pCARS because it was completed before the real work on pCARS even started.

Edit @ peobryant: One thing I would like to know is if the collision model is improved. Are there still those very frustrating "sticky" collisions with other cars and walls like in Shift 2? That would indeed be a shame. :scared:

If the Sticky cars are in then you can forget about any P cars influence.

Good question. Do I need a cold bucket of water to separate the cars?

I´d like to see any PS3 gameplay video to compare; all they on youtube are from X360 version.

Are you happy with what you've seen?
What I mean is there won't be a lot if difference.

The Portuguese Report: No-show in two big stores I checked today at lunch time.

(can't say I'm surprised ... :indiff: )

About the ongoing discussion: I bought Shift and shelved it fater a couple of days. This led me to NOT buy Shift 2. And makes me doubt of this game's physics.

But I can't resist the old Ferraris ... :D

In the game's Facebook page, it says: "Finally we have the release date for you. Test Drive Ferrari Racing Legends will be available in most European countries on July 6th on PS3 and XBOX 360!".
Anyways, this was published back in June, 20th... Wonder if it's actually coming!

I've been reading some reviews here in GTPlanet, and in some other sites, they say it's a good racing game, not as perfect as GT5 or Forza (never played it, can't confirm the fact), but a game with a good overall in tracks and cars (even though it hasn't a 1000 car range as GT5), the physics are good enough, not an actual simulator, neither a total arcade game and the best part of the game, is the fact that the AI is great, aggressive or defensive at some times and they can actually put up a "fight" driving cleanly...

(Can't confirm none of this as I am in the exact same situation as you, but the reviews match 👍 )

Shift 2 is actually a huge improvement over shift 1 but it's still kinda of bad compared to GT5. Better physics than forza 4 but it's also more floaty, and it has more input lag. Same thing with project Cars. pCars is a little better but not by much.

I really hope SMS wakes the hell up and realizes how badly their physics need to be fixed. They're capable of making good physics but to me it doesn't even seem like they're trying

Do you really expect anyone to take you seriously coming out with things like that?

Seriously? Wow. I really hope you wake the hell up and realize how badly your perception and your attitude need to be fixed. Please go to the WMD forum and tell the devs who are working incredibly hard on the physics, tire model and FFB your opinion in their virtual face. I dare you.

Funny thing is: I knew that talk would come once TD:F would release. People just dont see bigger pictures these days.

I'm sure he can't have played pCARS because if he did not only would he know the physics are a world apart from Shift he'd also know the input lag is long gone.

Flx I would like to know why you think it is unfair to have this game reflect on SMS? Up untill maybe a week ago they where actively working on this game. They delayed the game. So they still where a part of the game at that point. I dont agree with most of the comments made about pcars lately, but it is still far from what Id call great. SMS must agree because are they not reworking the physics of the game for pc and passing what they have off to the console?

Project cars is worlds apart from Shift 2. I hated Shift 2's input lag infested swaying sloppy half assed physics with a passion, it ruined what could have been a good game. Project cars started out exactly the same and I didnt like that either, but after months and months of development they fixed all those issues and turned it into what is a fantastic to drive/play sim that is ahead of anything currently on the consoles.

The problem with Test Drive Ferrari is that it is being done by the same guys, is being released now in 2012 and is running the same junk that Shift 2 was in. Project CARS has had its issues fixed for months now, why could they not retrofit that to TD Ferrari?

As i've said it makes me sad, mostly because of how much they managed to improve it with PCars, its not "a little better" its in a completely different league.

I'm with bigbazz here, i hated the physics in Shift 2, and if they're using that same engine(not CARS updated) for Ferrari Racing Legends, then it's a huge shame, because i won't be able to enjoy it.

Shift 2 was fine with the right set-up i can pinpoint my cars, the problem with this game is it has no tuning, but i like a challenge. Is there leaderboards on this game?

fatkrakr, you re really getting on my nerves with your pseudo-facts. You seem to be living in SMS' mailbox or something, how else could you get all this incredible insider knowledge on how and why stuff happens behind closed doors?!

Who the darn bloody hell knows why the game got delayed. Regarding the fact (a real one, not a fatkrakr one) that the game is released by Atari and that this company has a vast history of delaying the games the publish without anybody knowing why, I d imagine they might have something to do with it.

Thing is: I dunno, so I dont blame them. All I know is that SMS are not stupid enough to deliberately make a game not as good as they possibly can in the given situation. If it drives like Shift, there are reasons for it. One of them is probably called money.
