Sorry if I missed some thread but I´d like your opinion. I want a good sequencial shifter. The th8 is in good price. Is it good for sequencial? That´s my use for it.

Any sugestions?

I want to get a short shaft for the shifter, did we ever find a reliable source for that? I saw someone mention something from a marine shop, but I can't find it now.

Dejavu. You asked that before and I replied back here. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=6615816#post6615816

Anyway, you don't need to go through the trouble of getting that thing, eg. for the 'toilet roll' handbrake (it's not a toilet roll holder, it's a closet hanger rod) that sparked off this debacle, I just used a long M6 bolt. For aftermarket shift knobs, you just need to fatten up the bolt, eg. use some nuts or if you can get a hands on coupling nut like this,

Also, someone told me that Thrustmaster told him that the size of the original shifter knob is M9. I've never seen M9 before.

Personally, I find the TH8 RS feels close to a real car (passenger car) sequential shifter, eg. like the BMW SMG or Steptronic and Alfa's Selespeed.

I don't know what a race car or rally car sequential is like.

For sim, I prefer using the Frex Shift+ with its noisy switch noise but satisfying shifts.

You might want to also check out the DSD if you haven't already.

Yes, I`m considering the DSD also but it`s a litle bit more expensive. That`s why I´m checking for the TH8 RS in sequencial. Most of people talk about the 7 gears experience.

If you take H-pattern and hand brake into account, it is hard to beat in terms of value. When I bought mine, I only considered it for H-pattern, so sequential and hand brake were bonus.

That looks great. That must be the Type R version with red writing. Any more issues with the edges? That's a brand new plate yeah? I'm jealous :dopey:

The red numbers were a nice touch. He smoothed the edges out best as he could. He told me the factory plate was a mold, so it's impossible to get it as perfect as that.

So it's still the old plate? It looks so much nicer, even the aluminium looks stronger. If you were selling, I'd buy from you instead :D

No it's a new plate, he basically saw the old plate all hand-filed down, :D, and he offered to make me a new one. I wasn't planning on selling anything, I wanted to show how far I took this quest for a perfect short-throw plate. My plate is one-of-a kind. :D Honestly it doesn't work any better or any worse than yours, just looks pretty. :)

Mate, if you decide to make and sell, I have no issues with that. I'm not in the sim racing hardware business. It looks great. Well done.

I bought mine primarily for the H-shifter function. As for the sequential I was at first quite disappointed with it. There is no real positive feel when engaging the gears as I had before in the fanatec shifter. that is a super simple plastic thing but real nice feel for the sequential. but I noticed it was a bigger problem while dry simming then actual racing. I love the ergononmics of it and it´s 110 % reliable despite the lack of phsyical or audial feedback. I find it impossible to miss shifts regardless of H or sequential.

I probably would have been more critical if I didn´t want the H-pattern part I feel that is it´s primary function

I bought the TH8 :) I experienced in H but right now i`m using with sequencial wich is the primary use for me. I like the feeling of using it and it works just as I wanted. I hope the durability in sequencial mode to be good.

The sequential plate is super easy to replace if Thrustmaster decide to keep stock. Maybe the springs is available somewhere so you could change them? If so it should last an eternity I would imagine :)

just a quick update received a second shifter. turns out to be much better than my original.
Thanks to good Australian GTP Member here Itrdc5 for the handbrake plate and the awesome shifter.

Where are you guys getting yours? I was hoping I could get a T500 and Th8 from Fry's but the they don't carry the TH8. I would prefer store pick up but shipping is fine as long as it's not the same price as the shifter (Sears)!

Sorry If this has been asked before, but can I use this with my G27? I'm assuming it plugs into the hole under the wheel? Thanks. I really love this shifter!

Finally got the shifter and make a quick mount. Really slick piece. I need to check the firmware in both my wheel and shifter.

Buddy come over today and watched me install the unit. Did some testing to be sure it all worked. Jumped up to share. He gets on and won't get off. Knowing I get it all the time. I refrained from pulling rank. LoL he had so much fun. Irony he lost his license a few years back and hasn't driven for real since. So he was really in heaven. Just grinning ear to ear. Saying man... Jeff. Man. I may get into GT5. That's way fun. Wow.

As well it was his first time using the triple monitor setup. So that also had him immersed.

Taxi came and got him lil later and finally my turn to flog my Z06! Had a G27 and didn't realize how badly I missed the shifter. As I get more used To the gated shifter it may feel better then the G27 in actually gear change efficiency. GT5 clutch is still goofy as ever. LoL but livable.

My main question is what mods are good. Already see a short shifter shaft being made. Anyone got thread sizes or link me to the posts with this info.

I know a lot has been discussed here and having trouble sifting through the thread. Thanks in advance.

Only on PC? :( I race PC all of the time, but I also obviously play PS3 a lot. Why can't I be used on PS3?

I was like you once, and my advice to you is to focus on playing all your racing games on the PC from now on. I slowly learned that due to all the hardware restrictions and the overall logistics of console gaming, it was better to play only on PC. The shifter situation you complain about above, is a prime example of why I will only play PC racing games from now on. The lack of hardware options and versatility on console is disgusting.

I don't have a G27, but you can't use 2 controllers on PS3 for 1st player, so if you can find an adapter to plug it into a G27 maybe you can play on PS3

edit: ignore

Apparently it will work in GT5 no problem with the T500RS..

Ya, ignore my posts, I'm not sure. I've been looking at the T500RS for quite awhile, I just need to find a place that sells both the shifter and Wheel. I thought it plugged into the wheel but now that I'm reading more about it, I'm not sure, I do most of my racing on PC, sorry for confusion
