TH8 RS Shifter Thread!

The shifter is usb. Even on the ps3 it plugs into usb, but it only works with the t500. Not sure if that is Sony/PD or Thrustmaster that made that choice,but my guess is Sony. It would make for more sales for Thrustmaster if worked stand alone.

What Sony needs to do, and Microsoft for that matter, is design the PS4/Xbox 720 with DirectInput USB compatibility, and allow multiple controllers to be plugged in and recognized by their machines without issues or conflicts. Furthermore, they need to adopt DirectInput completely, by allowing us to use every controller that works on PC to work on consoles. I can't tell you how ticked off it makes me that I cannot use my steering wheel/Pedals on the PS3 or Xbox 360.
 
Does anyone here have any experience with Newegg or Tiger Direct? Can I order by phone?
No single retail store sells both the T500 and TH8 from what I can see and that's what I'd like to do

Tigerdirect briefly had the T500 for $365 on Thursday. I took the ad to Fry's Electronics and got a reluctant price match.
 
I've searched for ages but cannot find the answer :s..

I want to mount my TH8 into an MDF console, I assume the only practical way is to simple cut the right size hole for stick/gears and mount the top plate on top and use 4 bolts into the TH8 top housing. If so, does anyone know the size of the bolts that hold the top plate to the shifter?
 
I found it easier to jig saw the shifter plate out of MDF. I think the plate needs to be tight to the shifter base. Theirs a locating pin type thing on the back of the shifter plate that makes sure it stays in place. Or the base would turn as it can be mounted at any angle.

This is about 3mm thick MDF perfect size to leave the plate coming up out of the MDF. Got it in B&Q
 
actually..one more thing then ;)
Does that mean you took the black cowling off the top of the shifter housing so you could put the shifter through the MDF.
I looked at that aswell but didn't want to unscrew everything underneath incase it just fell apart :D
 
The MDF just sits on top of the shifter and circular hole for it to pop out of. Really simple, panel pins hold it down tight into the wooden frame around the shifter

The black bit is at a slight angle pointing down to keep the shifter plate perfectly level with the MDF
 
Thanks mate...not sure I can do that as I'm using 9mm MDF..and looking at the TH8 the plate isn't raised very much :s

Where do you guys are getting those short handles for the th8? if i remember correctly the one that comes with the shifter is very long?
 
I received this shifter yesterday. It is exactly as advertised, and more. The mostly metal construction makes it rock solid. It mounts perfectly to my Rennsport wheel stand using the G25 shifter plate that comes with the Rennsport. The clamp that comes with the shifter is great, the shifter has not budged. I have used the shifter in rFactor and GT5 and it works perfectly. The only time I get mis-shifts is when I screw up. It's not fair to compare this shifter to the Fanatec Porsche or CSR shifters, both of which I have owned and used extensively. This is much better, albeit more expensive.

Hey Hwangm, I saw pictures of your shifter in the iRacing forums but I never knew it was yours. Could you link me to where you purchased that 8 ball shift knob? Me thinks it's awesome.
 
hey coxis, bought it on ebay (UK) i think but he ships internationally, he will ask you why you want M9x1.25 thread size, I told him it's for The Thrustmaster Th8RS shifter, he then sent me the correct size, felt sooooo good too. have a bit of weight and just "clunck" into gear nicely.

my best handbrake mount ever (in red delrin knob)
he uses real pool ball. and done a very very good job on it. even the hole that he drilled is centered to the number on the ball.

Ordered my TH8RS, should be with me Thursday. No wheel yet though, sold my Fanatec, just waiting for payday to get a T500RS.

yeah real pool ball, the red handbrake is another Th8 on analogue mode, I initially have phillip's handbrake plate, but i want black on red so dremelled the original sequential plate. it cost me $50 just for that red "dildo" , but it's really smooth:embarrassed::embarrassed::embarrassed::D....

Here's a video of both H and Seq in action. was going to do RSRBR2012 but need a lot of practice on the track I want to do it in. so at the moment it's Dirt with lower grip mod for now.

What size is the replacement shifter ? I'm looking at WC Lathe Werks (know them from when i had my STI). Great products but want to ask them which size would fit this one. Anyone know ?

fred, I got my red delrin (not sure if they are the same as what lathewerks state as "copolymer") the price is similar from www.productinnovations.com but even thier knob is too big or too small for th Th8RS, they only offer M8 or M10 thread size, whilst the Th8RS is on M9. <-i hotglued inside
hence the pool ball , since this guy do it custom for me, he even ask how deep the hole is.
but driving that knob with the stang felt really belong. it'd be good if it's a Hurst or tremec, but both brand only carry M10 sizes
