There is a screw in the metal base that can be tightened. Just a quarter turn, careful not to over tighten it

I already overtightened it months ago  I meant *other* than tightening it. Perhaps place something between the end of the screw's ballbearing and where it meets the internal part?

Have you been continually over tightening? If this is the case you may have worn the ball point screw out :nervous: in that case you're......screwed and would either need to ask TM for a replacement screw or buy a new TH8

:nervous::nervous::nervous::crazy:

The Lotus 49 is coming out next week and there's NO WAY I want to be without a shifter, so I guess I'll just see if I can call them for a new screw.

There was a post somewhere, how to repair the ball/spring assembly.
I'll check if I can still find it.
The thread of your screw is ok ??

I'm just remembering it wasn't the just the screw that was the problem in mine

This is the result of constant overtightening.
I'm not saying this is definitely what's wrong with yours.....But take it apart and take a look and see

I look forward to helping you guys out. :D

These will be available either Monday or Tuesday. (Depends on how fast the mail gets here) :D That being said, based upon the interested I have received, these aren't going to last long. Because of that I will be ordering more parts in the near future in order to keep up with demand. Going forward, wait time should be much shorter than it was this time. (a little over 1 week this time)

Product looks great and in a nice case.
Will be interested to see how long the "international shipping" takes to little ole Nothern Ireland.

Thanks Mr B

Generally speaking, 7 to 10 days has been the norm to the UK and Ireland via USPS First Class. :) However, the order you made should be quicker... It will be interesting to see.

And by the way... Thank you! :D

I received a Basher SFA1 and put some miles into Forza Horizon. The TH8RS shifter is really nice. The feel of the shifter is much nicer than with the Fanatec 6+1. The action is satisfying, if a tad long and light. It feels a lot like my TSX, though I'd prefer it felt more like my Miata. I think the TH8RS is great for a game like Forza Horizon, or any game that focuses on street cars. My only complaint is that there isn't additional spring resistance when moving all the way into reverse. I suppose this is to make 7th (!) gear feel natural, but as everything I plan to drive tops out in a 6th it would be more intuitive if I could ride the outer gate without accidentally bumping into 7th.

I have a RennSport Wheel Stand and just clamped the TH8RS to the shifter plate. It works well there, but I may make an armrest mount for the TH8RS and then keep the Fanatec sequential shifter on the wheel stand. I really wish I could justify the cost of a second TH8RS and SFA1 because the sequential mode of this shifter is outstanding as well.

Derek Speare offers different plates for the TH8RS

After getting my TH8RS I had to figure out how to re-work my existing 8020 mount used for my Fanatec H-shifter and X-CPO adapter.

So I decided to take apart the TH8RS to figure out if it would be possible to run M6 screws down through the housing instead of up through the underside as Thrustmaster recommends.

First thing you need to do is remove the shifter plate, then remove the 7 phillips head screws on the underside of the shifter housing (the 3 screws located along the curved portion are longer than the other 4 screws).

Once its apart, its very easy to make a template or precisely measure the mounting holes distance, copy machine works too (that's what I did).

This is how Thrustmaster recommends the shifter be hard mounted. The important thing is to select an M6 screw size that is short enough to not penetrate the top plastic housing but has enough length to span whatever you mount the shifter to. There is not much more than 13mm (.05") length between threaded hole's surface and the plastic top housing.

What I found out is that there is enough clearance between the plastic housing on the top and the threaded M6 holes to house a M6 Button Head screw in the opposite orientation that Thrustmaster recommends.

Hope this helps some of you with mounting your TH8RS.

and if you have it opened, you can stiffen up the lateral movement with some rubber bands ;-)

Link to video (with 1 rubber band). I'm currently using 2 sets of rubber bands as per the photo above but with some duct tape on the edges so the rubber bands don't scrape on the metal.

Jogo Asobi - why not just use M6 threaded rod (or M6 bolts with the heads removed)? I used M6 rod and so didn't need to dismantle my shifter to mount it.

Whoa...thanks for the warning. Didn't expect that to happen to the plate.

I did not have to dismantle to mount, I just opened it up prior to deciding how I would mount it.

I just took pictures along the way to post for the forum to share.

JogoAsobi - My post was not intended as a criticism - your pictures are excellent and informative - I just made an observation that if you use threaded rod instead of bolts you can acheive the same effect without opening the shifter.

None taken, was just trying to clarify. Sharing info, that's what this is all about.

I ended up mounting from underneath conventionally, but I forgot to mention I placed rubber grommets between the TH8RS housing and the 2"x4" 8020 plate I fastened it to so the metal finish is not scratched. You can see what I did here on post #126 of the SFA1 thread.

Does anyone know where to get a shorter rod for the TH8RS shifter? I really like the shifter, but don't like how long the rod is.

The threads on the rod are different sizes on each end. The end which goes into the shifter has M6 x 1mm pitch threads. The end which goes into the shifter knob has M9 x 1.25mm pitch threads which is a very odd size.

Get a M6 rod and a custom shifter knob, easiest solution ;)

Lots of info in this thread ref. shorter shift rod and use of M6 rod that Spike125 mentioned.

I've got one. The guy is itrdc5 on this forum.

The plate isn't bad...a bit rough around the edges. Friends have banged the gates a bit out of shape, but it hasn't broken yet.

Thanks for the info, rough around the edges pertain to outside edges of the plate or the gate's inner edges?

I've moved on to a Mobsim shift plate. Incredible quality.

So what did you "move on" from? It looks pretty but the MobSim photo seems to indicate the same long throw the stock TH8RS plate has minus 7th gear.

Since you have both the stock plate & Mobsim plate, a comparison would be much appreciated, photo even better!

Well after contacting Thrustmaster they have sent me a new tension screw. I installed it and the after carefully tightening it a bit, the shift lever is a bit tighter now. Feels better, but I can't help but think that the part of the shifter you displayed in the picture Carson, is worn just like yours. I asked TM if they could send a replacement for the entire shifter internals, but of course they ignored that request and sent only the screw instead. :grumpy:

This is the same process I went through. The new screw didn't make any difference to mine and I contacted them again. That's when they asked me to send it to France for repair or replacement (at my expense £25) . I don't think that the system for tightening the stiffness is a wise one as you can easily over tighten and damage the shifter as there is no limit or point to stop you like a dial or switch. I haven't tighten the new shifter I was sent at all in case I over tighten again. Good luck mate
