Thanks for all the feedback here.
I was just about to thighten the screw a little, because i felt the resistance a little too low, but with all the reports here I changed my mind.

I think as long as you can still feel it "click" into gear then it would be ok. But its once you go by that point. I found I had to adjust mine every time I used it. So I thought rather than risk damaging my shiny new replacement I'd just get used to the feeling of it as is :)

How does it feel mate?
After you showed the effects of overtightening, I thought I'd better find another way to do it. It feels pretty good, at least it doesn't have that sticky feel when you tighten the screw.

Anyway, since it's non destructive, I can only suggest to give it a try.

I'll give it a go 👍

Got my custom made Delrin knob from Rob Niziolek at Product Innovations today that he made to my specs. Absolutely love it compared to the stock piece. Feels fantastic, throw feels shorter thanks to how low it goes down on the stock stick and the finish quality is top notch as was his customer service. Even with Hurricane Sandy interrupting his manufacturing he still had it fabbed and shipped to Canada in around 12 business days. It feels super comfy and natural to hold while running through the gears. The rounded top also helps it to simulate a traditional round knob so you can alternate your grip style when shifting by placing your palm over it. Although it looks grey in the photos it is indeed black in color and is you can see on his site you can get numerous other colors as well along with different styles of knobs. He finishes his knobs by glass bead blasting them which gives it this nice subtle suede type of feel to it. It could easily be polished if one wanted as well. All in all I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

Crappy Pics from iPhone (I'll get better ones tomorrow):

+1

The stock knob might look okay but it is so light and toy like. Worst part of the shifter. My relationship with the TH8 RS is definitely bittersweet. Do I like the shifter? Yes. Do I hate (not hate, "annoyed by" is a better description) the shifter? Yes.

Here's my knob from Product Innovations. Love the Delrin material and it's great how he can customise the fitting. Oops, me bad...for posting a Frex shifter in the TH8 RS thread. Oh well, just look at the knob ;-)

Hey all, has anyone here hard mounted their TH8RS? It says I need M6 screws - does it actually mean screws or does it mean bolts? Yet to open it up but thought I'd ask first.

Go back to page 64, post #1273, its all there opened up and posted with pictures, M6 Screws.

I didn't like the length of the shaft on the shifter, it's too long for me. So I figured out a way to shorten it. I have a tap and die set and it has a 9mm x 1.25 die. I added more threads to the top of the shaft and cut some off. I was originally planning to cut off an inch, but once you cut it, you can't put it back. So I started with about 1/2 inch. That was close, so I cut about another 1/4 inch off.

Here are some pictures I took.

Original length of shifter shaft.

1st cut took off about 1/2 inch.

2nd cut took off about another 1/4 inch.

I didn't take a before pic, but here is one to compare from Thrustmasters website.

how does it feel now? I was going to do the same before.

I like it a lot better now. Before I kept missing gears. The real cars I have driven with manual transmissions have had short throws. With the shorter shaft it feels more natural to me and what I am used to.

Quick couple of questions about the shifter which I'm sure is answered in here somewhere but with I've read the first 10 pages and last 4 and with 66 to go at I hadn't found it so here goes.

I will be using the T500rs and TH8 with a PS3 and wanted to know about compatibility with games.

Do the follow games work with the T500rs and TH8 shifter in both 'H' pattern and Sequential mode?

GT5
Dirt 3
Shift 2

Does anyone know about future games like Grid 2 and Project C.A.R.S?

Is there such a thing as a quick change kit to allow for fast changing between the standard t500rs wheel and the Ferrari add-on?

Thanks for any help with this, I really need to know before a large outlay on these products. I have looked on the Thrustmaster tech page but it isn't clear at all.

Not sure about all questions... GT5 has H-gate and Seq support, DiRT and Shift I believe only Seq., and almost certainly pCars will support both modes but Grid 2 likely not.

I know there's a quick release sold by someone... think DSD makes it.

Just thought I would add my customer support experience with Thrustmaster. The spring on my sequential shifter plate broke last week. I emailed support and after the normal send a pic and copy of invoice exchanges they shipped me the part. It took 3 days to ship from France to Ohio. Very fast shipping. :) More to my surprise though was they shipped me the whole shifter plate not just the spring. Was thinking I would just recieve the spring. Very pleased with the results. 👍

Does the spring fit on the sequential shifter plate to make it centre after shifting?

No the shifter rod will recenter it self without the spring, but there is no resistance on the shifter after the spring broke. I could still use in sequential mode after it broke, but I had to be careful not to double shift.

I posted a longer version of this on the Black friday Amazon thrustmaster thread.

Regarding TH8RS warranty for those of you in the USA who purchased them from Amazon UK:

I called Thrustmaster tech support USA last week.

I was informed that the TH8RS warranty is 2 years.

I asked them about warranty service in USA in event Thrustmaster TH8RS was purchased from Amazon.UK.

According to the Thrustmaster tech support rep, EU product warranty laws vary from country to country, so in the case of the TH8RS purchased from Amazon UK and used in USA:

Thrustmaster will provide warranty support that includes replacement parts that can be shipped to the end-user.

However, should product replacement or receipt of the product by Thrustmaster for repair purposes be necessary, it has to be sent to Amazon UK.

Does anybody have any handbrake mod for the TH8rs? I found this below, but I wonder if someone (such as DSD) plans on making an adapter plate with the same mechanism as the original black sequential plate, but with a longer pull instead. It's still fun using the original sequential shift as a handbrake, but it'll be cool to have a modded one to pull it like a boss 👍

A member on the forum: itrdc5r has a plate.

Or for now you can run the normal gate shifter long ways and you get the full length of the handbrake. Then you can purchase or make an adaptor plate which is like the sequential except longer - i know some have dremelled it longer too. Hope this helps.

Something like this?

Sorry for those who's already seen this. I've probably posted it before earlier in this thread.

YES! Now that's exactly what I'm looking for. I appreciate the links guys. I wish I knew how to make something like that  guess I'll be doing more research

Well, more about that plate here.

Thanks again for sharing! I forwarded the link to a few of my rally buddies and one of them told me he bought one yesterday. ;) I decided to go with another advice and dremel the sequential plate I have now, it turned out very well.

You'll still want to put something in there to give some resistance when pulling back on the shifter..

Happy modding..! I wish I had the patience to DIY.

Agree with all the points above.

Will take some pics tonight and update post.
