To the guys that are now struggling to make it to round 3, I just want to say too smurfing bad. I am frustrated as hell as I was sitting #2 in the midwest without mowing any grass at Toscana or Eifel. I had plenty of time to find at Eifel. But everyone had to whine and they got what they wanted. Now these are the same people whining blaming this that and the other while forgetting that they are the ones in control of their own destiny.
Seriously quit the whining, Vermont and Wisconsin are running out of cheese.
I still don't understand why they got rid of the last two maps. There is grass on the outside of Eifel, same as there was at Cape Ring. Especially don't know why Toscana was removed. I think PD, or Sony, or Nissan, or SCEA really dropped the ball on this competition. Don't get me wrong, I am stoked it is here, and glad I am a part of it.
But why did they even introduce Eifel if they don't like the use of the grass on the exit of turns? They already saw what happened at Cape Ring. I completely understand why they got rid of Indy. That was horrible coding to allow people to completely cut those two turns.
I have nothing against people complaining, because a lot of people made quite a few sacrifices of sleep, relationships, jobs, social events to put the time in at these tracks. We were told there would be 2 tracks and those of us that were very eager for the competition and took time off work, missed sleep, etc. at the beginning of the week got punished. The "cheaters" were not issued any warning that I am aware of, and lo and behold in the following tracks they "cheated" as well.
So for those that missed the things I mentioned above (sleep, work, etc.), are the ones that got punished the most. These were the people most willing to make sacrifices to follow their dream. The way the organizers of the GT Academy have run this event in a way that punishes the legitimate racers more than the cheaters.
It sucks! It sucks for you Choate, that you were a lock to make round 3, until this fiasco. It sucks for the people that were ready to sacrifice whatever need be to make it to round 3(Those people are probably the most sleep deprived and worn out of the whole bunch going into this ridiculous last minute change).
I can see why it gets tiring to see person after person vent. But, honestly, I think a majority of us are just worn out and tired. What really caused all of this mess to start was the lack of programming in the tracks. Secondly, there should have been rules in place that specifically stated no wall banging, grass riding etc. is allowed. Thirdly they shouldn't just arbitrarily change tracks in the middle of the competition TWICE! Fourthly, it would be nice if the exploiters would run these courses legitimately(but GT Academy has made it seem pretty clear so far, that there is absolutely no punishment for these activities).
With a competition with so much on the line, it is very unfortunate it has been run so poorly. It has effected the top players from the first two tracks(Indy & Toscana), the third track (Eifel), and who knows what is going to happen with Madrid and Rome. We can all point our fingers at eachother, but none of us are the main ones at fault.
Could you imagine any other "sporting" event with such a poor setup of rules. A football game, where it is sometimes considered out of bounds when you cross the big white lines that run along the side of the field. Referees that seem to busy doing other things, to even bother looking up to officiate. Certain players starting their routes by crossing the scrimmage line before the ball is even hiked.
I hope you aren't offended that I picked your post to reply to. I really appreciate the help you have provided to many of us, including personal tips through pm and chat. You are a great racer, and by my dealings with you I would also say an exceptional individual.
I think the organizers have all put us in a bad place, and to put it mildly, I think it has made many on this forum and in this competition "Grumpy." When people are grumpy they tend to complain more than normal, and act differently than their true personality. We have all been an awesome community, I have been happy to be a part of it. I will still give this competition what energy I have left. I hope none of us take any of the comments in this thread personally, and I hope the best drivers still manage to move forward.
I wish everyone luck,
Rees
