Color Photography from Russia in the Early 1900′s......

I didn't post them all, so the rest are here...

I love all of those shots. Seeing everyday life in various parts of the Russian Empire a whole century ago, and in colour no less, is quite something.

"In the Philippines, to bring sustainable lighting to homes in impoverished communities, empty plastic bottles are being installed in ceilings. Filled with water and bleach, they refract sunlight, and provide light equivalent to a 55watt light bulb."

Those are really quite amazing. Seeing old black and white faded pictures makes that time seem so adstracted and far away from today. Those pictures are so clear and sharp that they almost look like they could have been taken now, I can't really describe the feeling when looking at them, but I have just spent ages staring at them. It is almost like looking through a time portal.

Video says Water + Chlorine. Still cool though.

I did notice that, although other sources say it was bleach that was added, in order to keep the water clean and clear. It was probably Chlorine-based bleach mixed with the water.

You see the holes on the side of the plane? Just above it it says : Nicht Betreten. (do not enter)

Duh.

It's an homage to Ghostbusters, from the cast of Zombieland. And was it absolutely necessary to quote a picture directly above your post.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooh yeah.

Fantastic shot! 👍 The J-35J Draken is probably one of the most unusually designed, yet impressive fighters. Dat air intake

I also think it has the second most badass name after this one :sly:

I feel like this is becoming a "post aviation pics" thread... and I approve :D

Here's something that isn't a warbird. Eruption of Anak Krakatau.

Also, a photo demonstrating just how bad the rain is in Toronto right now.

What's the name of this thing? I think I saw this 2 years ago, it was super super super super much more bigger than all the other airfighters I saw that day. And it was super super super noisy too. And super super super awesome. It's the most awesome fighter I have seen. EVER. A guy told me they were pretty rare and crashed alot.. :(

And thanks for all those great photos! :D I almost save everyone of them haha.

Avro Vulcan. Yeah, pretty awesome name. Almost as cool as the F-104 Starfighter :sly:

Haha yes that was the name! I remember now thanks :D I thought I made a photo of it when I was there but can't find it :ouch: I have a few 'awesome' photos, might post it if anyone wants a high res..

There is only one flying in the whole world, XH558. It's not a fighter, but a strategic bomber.

I'm not worried about the Chinook, I'm looking at the Soviet choppers. Those things are massive.

They have wings! Never seen a helicopter that big before.

The Mil Mi-26 Halo. The biggest and most powerful production helicopter ever produced. It can lift around 20 tons and fly with one engine.

A Mil Mi-24 Hind isn't exactly small, but look at how the Mi-26 absolutely dwarfs it!

:indiff: I wouldn't want those - chances are, they're radioactive. :ill:

They are.

A cemetery of radioactive vehicles is seen near Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear power plant in this November 10, 2000 photo. (See a map of Ukraine.)
More than 1,300 Soviet military helicopters, buses, bulldozers, and other equipment were usedand contaminatedwhile responding to the April 26, 1986 nuclear accident at Chernobyl.

The disaster's residual effects and its potential for future environmental and health damage has landed Chernobyl on the New York-based Blacksmith Institute's 2007 list of the ten most polluted sites.

A hundred times more radiation was released during the meltdown of Chernobyl's reactor than was contained in the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The event created a spike in thyroid cancers among children and led to innumerable respiratory ailments, infertility cases, and birth defects in local residents.

Today a 19-mile (31-kilometer) exclusion zone around the reactor remains largely deserted.
