Here's some pictures of the new San Luis circuit in Argentina. It's got to be the best looking modern circuit.

I agree, a nice refreshing cut from the usual new circuits. đź‘Ť

Also, because it's six-and-something kilometers long. A bit too much - and Spa only gets a GP because of the heritage.

As for safety, it's indeed quite a nightmare - while runoffs and gravel-traps aren't required (and tyre-walls will be erected for the FIA GT race anyway), the low concrete walls and relatively low fences above (exposed rock in other spots) could make crashes an exciting trip into the lake inside the track. All of those, however, can be easily fixed to Valencia's standards - though much of the track's beauty will then diminish. As for infrastructure and grandstands, that could be solved... It is, actually, just a short distance from the capital of the province, and received an FIA 'B' grade - everything short of F1 can race it.

Beautiful thing, though.

Anyone got a circuit map?

And here's the location on Google Earth.

I can't believe the size of that boar. I don't know if it's some kind of camera trick that makes it look even bigger.

No runoff, tire walls, gravel traps, infrastructure, or, most importantly, grandstands.

Because Monaco and Singapore have loads of run off  I think the length is more the issue, as mentioned above. With walls like that it'd just be treated as a street circuit, probably. But the location does look spectacular. Must be so much fun to race there.

Monaco and Singapore are not huge, high-speed circuits. ;)

That's where skills come into play and as I watched classic F1 races back in the 60's, they sat on the hills for all they cared. As long as they saw some action.

The circuit is rated B-class - it can host every series short of F1, and the only thing that stops it from getting an A-license is the pits - which are supposed to be expanded over the winter. Then, the only remaining thing would be politics and money for Bernie.

I've highlighted the problematic part. In the '60s, their notion of "safety" was that it's safer to drive without a seatbelt and be flung out of the car, than stay in a magnesium tub full of volatile fuels. It was safer, but that's like choosing between getting killed by a treestump or by burning to death. Drivers got killed about once a season, sometimes more.

Skills is to be fast. Safety is for when things go wrong. Don't confuse this.
This season alone, we would've seen Kovalainen, Glock and Hamilton die (were they in '60s cars), last season would've been the last for Raikkonen, Kubica, Hamilton, and probably several others - the only good thing that resulted in Ayrton's death was the lives of others that were spared as a result.

As for spectators, these have died in various high-fatality accidents since the sport began... You can't allow spectators to get close to the track without safe, organized places. In this case, with cliffs on either side, it's either grandstands or nothing.

When would Lewis have been killed this year? Bahrain Friday Practice?

I swear this was on the news and all sorts though...

It was. The media bought into it without any research. Just watch an interview with the kid & the father. I didn't know who I wanted to smack more; the 2 for actually trying to gain anything more than 15 minutes, or the media for being retarded.

Three pages with quite a few mindblowing pictures: 1 2 3 (contain a few unsafe images, but they're safely behind a black warning)

Among my favourites (since 56k never enter this thread anyway...):

Wow, awesome picture.
That's a heck of a view of 1907. There's alot of history there.
