Poor old Steve has a habit of multiplying while flying. I think it's a Canadian thing...

The desert one looks like a bigger gap, but maybe the WR one is counting from where he landed on the ramp.

I think your right there. Nathan Rennie (desert) actually hit the front of the landing ramp on one attempt (his bike went into the front and he flew forward down the ramp) but as you can see in the World Record jump Jason Rennie is quite far into the landing ramp.

That camera person was horrible. Why would you attempt a world record and not have a professional camera man filming you? Spend the few hundred bucks for one, geez.

what happened to cause all of this? Is it because of the faltering auto companies?

The race riots of 1967 pretty much destroyed the city and put it into the ruins it is now. Pretty much everyone with money moved out, both whites and blacks, and left all the poor. Obviously the state of local economy and run down nature of the city led to crime and the overall danger of the city.

I suspect it's a combination of a lot of things, including ridiculous real estate speculation, sub prime lending, and certainly a failing automotive industry, among other things.

How about these figures for the average home prices in Detroit:

Oct. 2007 = $185,000
Oct. 2008 = $25,000
Mar. 2009 = $18,000
Today? = :nervous:

90% drop in just 17 months.
