Damn..I will have to sneak in a race or two. I'm grounded from everything so I will literally have to sneak in a race. I'm even grounded from my truck!

Well, I did my test and I may have to let B-Spec Boy test the 'vette and the Cuda at trial mountain(my test course). Although I completly blew turn 3 in the Cuda and ate a lot of dirt, the Cuda still beat out the Vette by over 2 seconds. Of course the Cuda also has 200 more HP.

Say you've got a muscle car project due, and you don't get a feel for what it's like to drive a 5 meter long whale with a 5ft high wing, you'll no doubt fail, and end up working in a florist until you're 42.

Grounded? :yuck: HAHHAHAHAHAHHA.

Man that sucks .... what the hell did you did?

Replied.

Just to make it public ... why the $50 meager HP upgrade amount?

Well running with just 2 mods ... which gave it [the Shelby] the same power/weight ratio, the Shelby ran 1 second faster than everything else at New York and 2 seconds faster at Deep Forest (the test tracks). We (Jump_Ace) and I took off one of the mods and it was still miles ahead of the rest of the field.

Once we removed all HP upgrades, it still ran SECOND ... that's faster than the10 other cars with full HP upgrades. We couldn't throttle it back any more and it fell within the target range with just the $50 for an oil change.

Even stock, this thing is somewhat the beast.

I had a feeling that the Shelby would be dominant if picked. Back when I had GT3 someone told me in GT2 that the best handling muscle car was the old Mustang.

Well I have decided on the Cuda, It is not the fastest car I tested, but IMHO one of the most clasic looking "Muscle" cars. I like the Vette, but never really considered it a "Muscle" car as most of them were out of price range for the average joe's.

Still I will be sending in my parts list sometime this week.

Good luck to all and most importantly === HAVE FUN!!!

I agree with the look of the 'Cuda. The GTO is of course the most classic since it was the first, but it reminds me of the Corvette Coupes(the '53 I believe).

However, the real reason of this post. What I find ironic is the argument over wether the Corvette was a muscle car or a sports car. If you look it up, the corvette was always listed as a sports car, and was sold as such(hence the higher costs). I consider the Stingray as the "muscle car version of the corvette" or at least Chevy's response to the other muscle car such as the Charger and 'Cuda.

Ah well, I've decided on the 'Cuda and I'm still compiling my parts list, seeing if I can spend the leftover money anywhere....(I've got just under 1K left over on non-HP parts!)

hey Bbinnell.....3 days 'til we kick this **** off buddy! WOOT!!! GL to all and I'lll be staying in MY yellow 69 Vette thw whole time. I've got a great jump on this series already and I can't wait to kick some tail!

Just a couple of days before the first official race begins. If you haven't already, please consider sending me your car choice and part list, so I can compile a drivers table for the start of the new season (I'm willing to add people later, it'll just be nice if I can get most of it done Saturday evening).

This is not an "argument" but maybe a discussion. I agree that the Vette is not a muscle car...but for our purposes here with GT4 it is. If you want to be technical I wouldn't exactly consider the Shelby a muscle car...IMO the early Mustangs weren't but the late 60's early 70's definately were/are but we don't have any of those in GT4. Chevy's "muscle cars" were Chevelle and Camaro SS's. What about late 60's early 70's Firebirds/Trans Ams, GTO's (The Judge), Buick GSX (I think I got the letters right?)--basically a skylark on steriods, Olds' 442, Ford Gran Torinos, etc.? Too bad none of those cars are in GT4. But I had enough trouble choosing between the 12 that Koly gave us.

Of course my wife refers to all of these as "redneck" cars. She would probably consider this the "American Redneck Championship". Give me any of these over a mini-van anyday. But I like just about all cars...just about everyone of them has some merit...not sure about the Subaru 360 though.

The only thing the 360 has merit for it getting in your way on the last corner of that stupid subaru driving mission.

I was on that mission for weeks.....I hate that 360.....I hate that 360....I hate that 360....

So far my fastest lap on NY with my enduro Charger is 1'46.9xx. This was done on the endurance race and the gear ratio was a bit...awkward. I may have also had the aid of draft or the hindrance of a collision so I don't think this time is entirely accurate. It's mostly for reference at this point.

Dodge Charger 440 R/T
Racing Exhaust
Sports Chip
NA Stage 1
Sports Clutch
Racing Flywheel
Full-Custom Transmission
Auto 9, 6th gear @ approximately .765
Oil and wash
Sweet rims (they help you go fast! ...At least it LOOKS like it!) lol

I'm thinking of using a different set up. But this one feels solid for me. I'd like to get a suspension kit or other so I can lower the ride height and adjust springs, etc, but it's out of the price range unfortunately.

2 days....

EDIT: I had me numbers mixed up. A bit lysdexic! :dunce:

Yeah, I have run some laps at New York as well.

Sub - 1'50 is the goal I think everyone is aiming for.

I'd like a Transmission. I run out of gears half way down the straight!

Comp. doesn't start until tomorrow! Welcome back onboard!!!

The Drag and Point-to-Point ... essentially they are going to be run over the entire 8 weeks and the winner will be decided at the end of the 8th race ... in other words, instead of running them Sunday to Sunday like every other race, you'll get the competitions full duration to run as often as you'd like (Jump_Ace is going to make a thread keeping track of the current times for these two events).

Feel free to submit a time as often as you'd like, or as little as you'd like, for both events. You may give a detailed time - such as 12.888 for the Drag - or obfuscate it a little: 12.8xx, it's up to you.

The Drag is obviously run at Vegas, while the Point-to-Point will involve you driving the first 4 sectors of The Ring, but we're only going to count the time it takes you to get from T2 to T4, so you'll take you're T2 split, your T4 split, and take one from the other to give the time it took you to run between them.

I'm going to pick my car in the next hour or so and run both the Drag Strip and Point to Point to get the ball rolling, which may clear up any questions that you may have.

BTW, I'm compiling a list of drivers and cars now and it's interesting to see how some people have gone regarding upgrades ... with the same car, some have gone with tires rather than a suspension, or visa-versa ... it'll be interesting to see how certain strategies play out.

So far we have these drivers and cars:

See Post #1 :)

That gives us 3 Stingrays, 2 Camaros and some one off's ... which isn't a bad spread (with other drivers yet to submit details). Nice to see that we're going to see how the C2 compares to the C3, and which C3 driver can climb to the top of his own group.

Personally, I'm looking at the Dodge Charger 440 R/T '70 or Chevelle SS 454 '70, maybe even the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 302 '69 ... just for a little variety ;)

Wow. Nice spread. I was worried about everyone picking the same car, but apart from the little sting-ray convention, it's all looking pretty slick! 👍

But now we've got the allegiances: We've got 3 Chryslers (The Dodges + Plymouth) and 6 GM's! (All the rest)

Looks like RedWolf, Darkwind and I, have some good ol' General Motors ass to kick all over the streets of New York!

Let the racing begin!

*sniffle* I feel bad now. I like GM. OK, I like Chevy... so nevermind. Mwahaha all hail my underdog -_-'

Edit:... I WAS kidding about the 'cuda being an underdog... but... ehhh after some prelim testing... wow... lots of work to be done with the tranny.I gave the tranny a lot more acceleration in lower gears and setup 6th gear to about midway, then increased the final gear and it's running 4 seconds faster than my original auto 10 setting. Suspension isn't really showing signs of having helped at all.

The only thing I have to say about the 'cuda now is this: This car was designed to go in a straight line. Not neccisarily at insane 0-400m times, but it can't turn, it just can't.

I love the 'Cuda, but I couldn't get it to really shine ... like you said Dark', it needs a lot of transmission work.

I got the Chevvy Camaro Z28 in the right ballpark with only using Auto Gears, so this is my pick. I tested the Chevelle SS 454 and Mercury Cougar, too ... both of which appealed to me ... but the Cougar lagged behind the Camaro Z28 and the Chevelle was laggy ... a little like the 'Cuda, I guess.

Not having the time nor skill to fine tune them to where they need to be, I'm taking the easy option with the Z28 :P

Like Dark', I'm not super convinced that the Sports Suspension is doing me much good, so I may switch it out and do a little more testing with some alternatives.

Dark, if you want to switch before the series begins, you can ... but even worst case scenario, you can always switch half way through. If you can get the 'Cuda to be semi-competitive, though, it'll be full kudos to your tuning skeelz :P

I love fine tuning cars..(lol..look at my gtvault account) its what I love about the game. Setting up a car is my favorite thing. I'll spend 45 minutes fine tuning for 2-3 laps. :D

MustangManiac16, absolutely! Just make sure that you only use the HP$ and non-HP$ monies available for the Cougar and you'll be all set ... I'll be interested to see how you do at New York ... I couldn't pull off a particularly brilliant run in that car :(

Heres my final Cuda setup:

Plymouth Cuda 440 Six Pack '71
HP: 660
WEIGHT: 1339

HP Upgrades:
Oil - 50
Supercharger - 13,500
Racing Chip - 1,500
Semi-Racing Exhaust - 2,900
Total: 17,950
Total Leftover: 1,450
Total HP: 660

Non-HP Upgrades:
Full Custom Transmission - 10,400
Racing Flywheel - 1,050
Carbon Driveshaft - 3,000
Triple-Plate Clutch - 4,700
Weight Reduction Stage 1 - 1,200
Weight Reduction Stage 2 - 5,500
Total: 25,750
Amount Left: 150

Don't be scared of the numbers. The car still bites without some serious tranny tuning. I dropped the 7,400 semi-racing suspension and the 2,700 twin plate clutch for the 4,700 triple plate and a 5,500 stage 2 weight reduction.

EDIT: I was right about the suspension. With the swaps I did, the car is now running 2+ seconds faster**, just goes to show what a clutch and weight reduction do for ya. Oh and just incase your wondering the cars top speed: 141 MPH.

**Fastest time with the suspension was a clean lap and was the second or third lap. With the changes, I beat its time on the first lap, and hit the wall on the first turn on the first straight.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Wow. I'm toast.....

I've only got a whisker more then 500hp, and my car is heavier....I also have a max speed of 133mph....I am so dead...
