Damage was included in the GT franchise before GT4 too, just not visually. KY has had a lot of pressure put on him with regards to the lack of damage in the GT franchise over the years. I've always had the impression that it was never one of his highest priorities, due to the limitations placed upon him by certain motor manufacturers and other undisclosed reasons.

GT2 had damage I believe and it's been something in the pipes for a long time to get real damage. I think he had so much on his plate he kept focusing on other things though. The kid in the candy store analogy comes back up.

As for manufacturers saying now, that's been the ASSUMED reason in many cases.

This is why I dislike posts where people come in and tell you why something is how it is and they site something they can't know for fact but which is possible... they however ignore it's only one of many possible reasons.

So when someone comes in and says "Why don't you guys understand that it has to be this way because of __________" that assumption turns into fact in a lot of peoples heads and really clouds up the water for legitimate discusssion later on.

Yay jello damage, this is the future.

p.s when a car hits another car at 150mph head on, shouldn't it lift off the ground even a bit?

Don't you wish that someone would look at carmageddon 2 damage....that game got it right! (lets ignore the fact you could flip it a dillion times)

Scratches on top of the hood? Can someone explain to me how those got there? Is it supposed to simulate the paint chipping off due to impact? Or is he just driving so fast that the paint is peeling?

That is some thin paint if it peels at high speeds

Maybe this was his plan all along, but for me, the damage model in GT5, looks too 'arcadey'. I can't comment on the physics side of things, but from what I have seen so far, it doesn't feel right somehow. 👍

Arcadey in terms of there not being enough damage for the force of impact?
More to do with settings and sensitivity than anything. At least the cars in GT5 look to have weight and proper motion

Even the so called hardcore sims look terrible too, and seem to have toy car weight to the physics and motion

Or when cars go flying into orbit from a "head on" - that's pretty arcadey

The cars in the second video have a strange car/track behavior. The cars don't look right while driving on the road. They also appear to have no weight at all. The damage looks pretty pathetic on both videos. But at least iracing doesn't have that strange car/track behavior.

EDIT: What I meant by strange behavior is that it looks like the car's weight doesn't seem to shift. It just looks very odd to me.
EDIT: The word I was looking for was collision physics.

I'm confident the collision/damage physics will look better than in Forza and iracing but I won't be surprised or particularly upset (as long as it's not too often) to see the occasional glitch or strange behaviour in GT5.

The collisions physics in iRacing, as showcased in the above video, look pretty spot on, save a few silly instances. The graphics are certainly lacking, but as far as cars making contact and losing control; it looks decent to me.

(stonemonkey)^ me too, after all games mess up occasionally. The only one i'm even thinking about really is the nurburgring ring one where it doesn't load quick enough before the race starts. Can't wait for this game though!!

Yeah. The collision physics look really good. I remember watching a video that showed off some impressive collision physics.

EDIT: Here is the video I was talking about. I love the way the cars react.

One thing I can tell is that damage physics should never be underestimated.
Crashing and damages in motorsports are one of the biggest factors in racing
it happens most of the time in FIA WRC / GT1 / F1 / F2 pretty much every series in the FIA and not just them even on a normal day on a track.

I know F1 cars are perfectly rigid but le mans and GT1s plus road cars are very different. The only reason for a fatality in formula 1 is that if something hits the head hard which is a usual thing for 300 kmh crashes
Sebastian Vettel crashes on Jenson Button
after wanting to overtake when it was to late to brake on incoming bus stop chicane in
Belgian F1 grand prix. Button was out of the
race after getting hit by Vettel directly on the
left radiator at speeds no where farther than
300 kmh. Vettel lose his front wing but
recovered at the pit stop and had it's front
wing replaced in nearly the time it took just
the tires to be changed. But in formula 1
division this is what I want to see for
"totalled"

I have seen many le mans flip to not just sideways :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeAuQ2Xem4Q&feature=youtube_gdata_player
And Michael Schumacher on 3 wheels after crashing on David Coulthard on extreme weather conditions but Schumacher had to retire after the head mechanic saw the suspension and brakes were completely ripped off at the pits

lastly the weather physics I hope there is something like where schumi crashed on coulthard weather and even snow for wrc rally and sand to and also if abu dhabi yas some sand on the circuit :D

I can't wait for the release

I have a friend and cousin who plays grid just because of it's realistic damage physics : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGRTE9e0HDw&feature=youtube_gdata_player
there's a lot more damage features in grid it's not just that like tire damage / flip

I hope AI on same lelvel as damage, meaning they won't ram you like in GT4 and prologue.

I think ramming is fine as long as there's a considerable amount of penalty like
- points or no throttle control for a specific amount of time again depending on the delay made

because ramming happens in the real world also

Although it would happen more in game like in almost all races I've been to so there should be a huge penalty on the gt money for that to

Played the demo at Best Buy today. The damage system is awkward/not impressive at high speed (newb drivers) crashes, but brilliant when it comes to scraps and bumps...which I say matters the most.

Just a question what do you think will happen if I plow the ferrari F1 car it to a mini or something like that at about 200mph?

Forza, yes! iRacing, probably never!!
