(I see an X but when I go to edit it shows up.. Can you guys see it?
https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5643/21659314991_d13053c7fa_o.jpg)

I see an X on the itinerary image as well.

The museum at Dulles is an extension of the National Air and Space Museum on the mall in D.C., and you should take that in as well if you can spare a day. The main museum has some major items, like Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, the Wright Flyer (as in THE ACTUAL KITTY HAWK AIRPLANE,) Yeager's Bell X-1, the Apollo 11 capsule, among other quasi-famous items. Do NOT drive into town, park at the perimeter and ride the subway. It's expensive as far as subways go, but so is trying to park in D.C.!

Your Florida stuff is all pretty close together, other than Miami being 10 hours away.....

I'm guessing that park is somewhere south in the Netherlands? I've tried to search where it is but I can't find it :indiff: Maybe you have a photo with the name of that restaurant on the left, in your last photo.. Those photos are pretty good quality too, what year was that?!

Yeah, it wasn't a huge drive from where we were, but I couldn't really tell you anything beyond that. I was 8 years old! What does a kid that small know about how far? :)

As for the pictures, Dad shot on Kodachrome, which has a color fade rate measured in centuries. We were there from 1964 to '66, so one of those....

We can make that work Greg :sly:

We can definitely make something work! And Swagger is local too :D

That list looks pretty awesome. When you're in Atlanta there's also a Delta Air Lines museum, but I have no idea what that's like yet or if you'd even be interested in commercial aviation. Sort of off topic, but you may not be able to see much of Road Atlanta unless there's an event going on. You can see turns 11-12 (the crazy ones) from the entrance though. If you have other questions about what to do and see in Atlanta (not all that much, tbh lol) feel free to PM!

Yeah I'm up for whatever you guys want to do maybe. I live only 20 min south of the airport, so it's not a big deal for me to drive.

I've been to the Museum a few times. They have Deltas first 767 (601 I think) in the main hanger, along with one of the DC-3 all in aluminum, and two other tail draggers. There's also an L1011 cut-out store in there.

Outside there is a 757 in the old colors, and sometime soon a new 747 will be out there too. Not sure where they are going to put that one though.

@GregTheStig I think I'm going to Petite Le Mans, not sure if you were going. I know @FoolKiller is so I might see some of you guys there.

Nice, added the National Air and Space Museum to the list :) Reading what you said, Kitty Hawk, Bell X-1, Apollo 11, that raises my heartbeat.. Getting on the subway is no problem 👍 I'll be the typical tourist with a camera in his hands all the time.

Yeah I'm not sure about Miami.. I need a place to just chill for a bit after visiting so many Museums and AFB's. I was happy to see that they were close in Florida, maybe I should plan to stay around for a bit there.

I have to show my dad, he is from '60 so who knows!

Meh, Road Atlanta is off the list then. Maybe spontaneous if there is activity..

Yeah I love flying in general, I always take photos of my flights. Even some civil plane spotting too. Sounds like you, Swagger and me could go together? :D I'll make sure to inform you guys way ahead when I'm coming over. Probably late 2016 or early 2017.

Sounds good enough for me! :D:tup:

To stay on topic a bit, some older flight pics...
Boarding in Rotterdam The Hague Airport, near my hometown.

Was looking at some older photos and saw that I've incidentally spotted a Delta plane at Schiphol Amsterdam :P

I really wish I could but there's a wedding I have to go to... of course it's on the same day T__T I'm especially sad to miss it with Porsche and BMW fighting for all 3 championships that weekend. Whoever finishes higher than the other wins it all. :banghead:

If I'm still on this side of the country by then  we could make that work for sure!

And more on topic stuff, Boeing just released images and information on one of their "Quiet Bird" prototype from 1962.

This was a stealth prototype that was meant to demonstrate the effectiveness of design and construction techniques that would be adopted decades later. It never flew and the military didn't have so much interest at the time, so this remained forgotten until now. You can see though what parts of it inspired later designs. Ohhh... I think I remember reading that somewhere else... Need more people for ten hours (well, more like 18 cause I think I need to get there around 6-7am).

Sounds like you, Swagger and me could go together? :D I'll make sure to inform you guys way ahead when I'm coming over. Probably late 2016 or early 2017.
Yeah as long as we get something bigger than a C172 to haul our fat 🤬's through Atlanta... Maybe a C208 would do?

Delta does fly out to Valencia I think a few times a day. Not that far from the F1 track iirc.

Interesting story on the Phantom aircraft...

I had to do a write-up on a Vietnam Veteran in my Vietnam History class. He was a section chief for five other aircraft at multiple airbases as well, but primarily at Binh Thuy Airbase in South Vietnam. The night before there was an attack on the base by Viet Cong, doing minimal damage at the most by only tearing up the perimeter fences. Air support via a C-47 gunship was suppressing the majority of it, but still enough to have a high alert sent throughout the base.

The next day, maintenance work was being done on one of the F-4s and the base came under mortar attack. While standing just a few feet above the horizontal stabilizer, a mortar round came and struck just a few inches to his back. He was lifted off of his feet and thrown several yards down in front of the plane.

After I got back home to make the powerpoint, I spent a few hours trying to find the attack records and the damage done to the Phantom. Sure enough, google had it kept safe. I was able to find loads of info of both the night before the mortar strike and pictures of his aircraft.

Here is a shot of the airbase. Maintenance was held just off of the runway to the left. Perimeter is basically the surrounding gravel road covered in a barbed wire fence. I was told to the left in the marsh like woods is where the offensive took place, although he was unsure as well:

The night before the mortar strikes. C-47 raining down bullets close to the river on the right of the frame above, most likely to prevent damage to the runway:

And this was his aircraft he was standing on. He had never seen this photo he said, and does not remember what it looked like after being hit, but recognized a few things in the frame like the bike off of the sandbags. He also recalled the fuel spillage off the left wing (doused in fire retardant) and that really helped proving this was in-fact the aircraft:

Needless to say, he was very fortunate to walk away, in one piece.
Although interesting story about the phantom when my dad was in the RAF.

One of the pilots was retiring and as he was leaving on his final flight one of the guys bet him that he couldn't fly between the hangers.

He took up that bet.

Not sure what powers the IL-76 but I think they sound sorta similar to some JT8D's on the side of 727s. I know when standing next to those or even MadDogs, that they'll turn your ear inside out, so it could be possible it damaged the recording device, or that the site he uploaded it to didn't receive the frequencies...

Just found out that the Avro Vulcan will be officially retired this Sunday. I never knew much about the plane, but from what I just found, it seems like an amazing plane and I never imagined that it could possibly perform aileron rolls (I wonder what is the largest plane that can perform a roll and still maintain a relatively level). There are some great pictures in this imgur gallery.

One thing that really stood out to me was this B-52 painted in these colors:

It's always a shame to see revolutionary aircraft being grounded. Aircraft like these are what inspire young people and get them interested in aviation. That's why I hope the B-2 Spirit and A-10 Warthog are kept in service as long as possible, not just for their effectiveness, but for their intricate designs and how they were created.

This is probably the most badass music video I've ever seen. Can someone identify the planes used? I'm not good at identifying old warplanes.

EDIT: Here is the far superior source with engine sounds:
