TC, I don't care about your 2006 titles, I'll watch any show from any time period if someone reputable recommends them to me. Not just going to sift through titles because they're from a certain period of time.

It's not like we think you should fire up AniDB and search specifically for old shows. I personally jsut constantly search, take note of and aquire any interesting-sounding shows, and I don't discriminate against old ones.

I don't search specifically for new shows for the sake of newness, either. I'll look at what shows are upcoming and I'll take note of any that sound interesting, but they don't jump up to the top of my queue just because they're new. In fact, they don't even go into my queue until they finish airing. And once they finish airing, they usually get placed at the bottom of my queue unless it sounds and looks genuinely amazing, in which case it might get bumped up.

You guys seem to think we've got a negative bias against newer shows because we're all "old school" or whatever, but really I think it's the opposite... you guys are either biased against older shows, or biased positively for newer shows.

Great Teacher Onizuka(currently watching)
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Blood+
Cowboy Bebop(On-hold)
Fate/Stay Night(On-hold)
Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo(Movie)

Enough, now shut up.

Don't know the last one, but the rest kick ass, nice! (okay, FS/N was fun, but maybe only 8/10...)

I'm not biased whatsoever, I just... watch what's been recommended to me or start airing shows because one ep a week is easy.... I stopped hunting for shows when I joined this thread, because why bother? People here tell me what to watch and I may as well watch that for the time being.

TC is telling me to the watch older shows because they're older which is an assdumb reason, honestly. I'm also done taking recommendations from him so him handing me a list from a certain time period and saying "hurr hurr watch these old shows cuz old" isn't helping anything.

The hell do I care? I watch what's recommended to me.

Oh and Bebop is on-hold because the characters are bland and there's no story to keep me interested.

Dude, the characters are bland?

The characters in Bebop are some of the best in all of anime, bro.

If you want to see truly bland characters, see: Clannad, Steins;Gate, Pokemon
:sly:

No story? You just proved to me you don't know what you're talking about.

👍

Especially Spike.

I think the reasoning for watching mostly airing shows is kinda weak... you could watch old shows at a rate of 1 episode per week... but other than that, fair enough. 👍

No story? You just proved to me you don't know what you're talking about.👍

I've seen 6 episodes, if YOU knew what you were talking about, you would damn well know those episodes only consist of Spike and his crew doing odd jobs to live. None of those plotlines interested me btw(aside from episode 5 which is the only episode I REALLY liked)

Loading up episode one of Bokurano, walter.

There's also the fact that they're good. I'm not recommending these shows just because they're old, it's also because they're good. You really enjoyed Eureka Seven, a show from 2005/2006.

With shows these days you get more fanservice, and moe, and at times less of a story. Why do you think a vast majority of fans are frustrated with what Japan pumps out these days? You get crap like Chu-Bra!! instead of shows with a great story.

I overall enjoy older shows more. Rurouni Kenshin may be from 1996, but it's blowing so many shows from the 2000's out of the water for me. Honey and Clover was from 2005, and it's in my top 15. My top 15 doesn't really have all that many titles from recent years in there. I have one 2011 show in there, and two 2009 shows in there. Everything else is 2007 or older.

And I've seen the entire show, and I see it get replayed over and over and over and over and over and over again on [adult swim] every Saturday night. It's been on the channel for over 10 years.

Just because those episodes are like that doesn't mean there isn't a story. You've probably seen shows that play out similar, and admit those have a story.

Cowboy Bebop is about a bunch of bounty hunters, their adventures, the bonds between the characters, and then also there's Spike's past with Vicious and Julia which is a big part of the show. Episodes 25 and 26 heavily focus on that material, and it's because of that that the show's final two episodes are some of the best final two episodes I've ever seen. Everyone in this thread who's seen Cowboy Bebop would pretty much agree.

I have never once stated that I prefer newer shows, some of my favourites are newer, but that's because they're great and I'm a sucker for production values.

And besides, I'm done taking recommendations from you TC.

How many posts since last night?! (Answer: Too many )

-> Ugh, whats with this Kamina glasses all over the place!? :indiff:

Don'chu diss Kamina here. :grumpy:

Well, I took a look into Neon Genesis Evangelion. Now moving into the 3rd episode, I'm hooked. :D A shame it only has 26 episodes, and a movie right?

'Only'??? Given the amount of story those 26 episodes get through, it won't feel like 26 to you.

BTW, what happened to that random guy who also loves Asuka?

The challenger that approached you?

Nobody knows. :ill:

First time I've seen Rei in a while! ...Smiling.

Screw Rei, but Misato's so much better.

Totally. 👍

Do not listen to Dung-Walter, dubs suck, specially Eva's. Watch it in proper japanese.

Agreed. Though the only dubs of a recent anime I have even heard are NGE. It wasn't good.

Would wanna see a clip of a TTGL dub though. Would be good to make a comparison of Nia's voices and see how annoyed the English dub gets me at first.

And don't tell me to actually search for the proper thing because the main dub channel won't show TTGL in my country.

Industry debates aren't really pointless because we're talking about how it's doing, what can be done to help it, etc. It goes onto the fate of the industry.

Debates about debates.

THIS IS NOT THE GT5 FORUM >:(

That's what it ACTUALLY looks like in TTGL

No, ya can't. Ya just can't. If you've got eps on demand as many as ya want, even if the show's just a 7/10, you watch 5 a week minimum, easy.

Seriously, it's different watching old shows vs new because of that, if you start the news right off the bat. And same principle applies to folks who are current on the long running shows like OP, NS, Bleatch.

Buuuuuuuut, Bepop is great. Anybody who seriously appreciates the art of storytelling has to get that pacing is part of the story. Slow open with character development is basic. Get the background and actors established, then BLAM! Blow some **** up! Bebop is one of the greatest stories ever told (sorry Bible..)

And besides, I'm done taking recommendations from you TC.

Is this just because he told you to watch some of his favorite older shows, or is there more to why you aren't taking any more of TC's recommendations than that?

(sorry Bible..)

Don't apologize to the Bible. Mankind deserves an apology from it more than it deserves an apology from any one of us.

/myathiestopinion :P

Jeff is drunk, but here's how I feel about Bebop: I'm not denying that it has a great story, I'm just saying that what has happened thus far has not hooked me at all. People backlash at that, but it's true. I can appreciate serious, I can appreciate pacing, but if what is being displayed doesn't hook me, it just doesn't.

He didn't tell me to watch his favourite older shows, he gave me a list of 2006 shows that he's seen and told me to check out the list. If I was new to anime I'd say "Oh hey, thanks!", but I'm not so I won't. I want someone to say to me "Hey, this show is really good and I think you'd like it"(note: taking into account the stuff I like(besides moe fluff of course, that stuff is for silly entertaining fun :3)

But the main reason I'm not taking recommendations from him anymore is that I just don't like him as a person

1. I know you haven't, but I see you picking up pretty much titles that are like 3 years old or younger.

2. No matter how good the show may be, the many great reviews it gets, and if other members here greatly enjoy it? Durarara!! is up there on the recommendations list.

Honey and Clover II ranks 56th on MAL. Code Geass is up near the top IIRC in the recommendation thread.

Go ahead and watch episode 17.

It doesn't really matter if you watch some of Cowboy Bebop out of order, because a lot of the episodes are just self-contained adventures as you've already noticed. In fact, I originally watched Bebop out of order myself. And if you inexplicably don't enjoy that one, then I don't know what else to say... drop Bebop for all I care.

And you should have realized I wasn't being 100% serious on that. I just picked the year 2006 at random.

Also wow, the last line being the real reason? Sure I may not like certain people, but if it's a recommendation, I'll still take it. I may not be fond of you, but I still take your recommendations into consideration.
I might be angry and utterly confused as to how he didn't like it, but...

only a love for NGE is mandatory to participate in TGAT. :P
Crap.:grumpy:

I can't have a love for a show I never watched.:(
I never even bothered to start watching Bebop and yet I'm still part of the family?
Because you didn't drop it. Dropping Cowboy Bebop be considered a sin in these parts.:mischievous:

mmmm 2/3 guilty as charged... but seriously, how much time do we have in this world?... by some accounts, not nearly enough. But by others, more than enough. And if you feel, you've got some time to spare, then please, take some time, and watch Bebop throughooooo (read that back in Gospel sing-song) But yeah, 20-some eps, with so much acclaim, just try it, what can you lose?

EoE won't come until it comes back into print.

Nothing, he'll just be brought to his knees going "What did I just watch? This is amazing!!".:P
