Ok then, though the fact that the series was 'notorious for featuring nudity and strong graphic violence for the major duration of its run' seems a bit…wrong for school work.
Bet you Deadman Wonderland is more graphically violent. Bet you Berserk is even more graphically violent. I know Elfen Lied is hella graphic, unsure how it stands up against Berserk though.
Onboi
I still don't know what "Moe" is. :P
You'll understand what it is over time.

All this discussion about anime recommendation and categorization has me thinking about this idea I've had for a while now...

I've always liked Leonard Maltin's movie guide books and thought it'd be cool if there was something similar for anime. I searched to see if anyone made something similar, and the closest I found was a very short but fairly well-produced PDF guide to a small handful of hentai OVAs made by some random internet guy...

So... I've been toying with the idea of making my own anime guide thing. What do you guys think? :P
Please share.

Categorizing is tough. As Yain already said, many things are more than one category. I know it's a pain in the ass, but having one masterlist of recommendations in order of votes and then having sublists per genre where each anime can appear multiple times might make the most sense in terms of utility.

Here's ANN's genres (I combined a couple):
Action/Adventure
Comedy
Drama/Slice of Life
Erotica
Fantasy/Magic/Supernatural
Horror
Mystery
Psychological
Romance
Science Fiction
Thriller - think Hitchcock, Monster is one of these
Tournament

Yes, sports and board games should be combined to tournament.

I probably wouldn't use Psychological as that's usually a thriller.

Historical/Mythological is another genre that might be good, I'd include Moribito and The Twelve Kingdoms there.

Also maybe Tragedy. Kenshin T&B is romance, action/adventure, historical, and tragedy.

Here's some moe for you all.

Yeah, it's mainly on anime girls, the pride of anime! Forget anime boys, anime girls are way more popular!:grumpy:

They're the only ones who matter!:grumpy:

Just because Asuka is in it. Mirite?

NGE is the best anime regardless.

:(

Nah, don't really care, TBH.

You already qualify!

Are you in high school or something?

And this guide is where?

I support this. I would trust your guide.

H-h-h-how... c-c-c-can you s-s-s-say that?!

*cries*

I was referring to Team Asuka but I am going to assume you knew that and I am touched that you care. Do you have an interest in joining? :D

I like this. As far as what AOS- has done so far (which is awesome BTW), I don't think Sci-Fi and Thriller should be grouped together.

Smartass. :P

I hate this internet here. Takes me a couple minutes to load a new page here on TGAT GTPlanet, then it likes to send my posts twice. Awesome.

Anyway, since creating a guide where I review every single anime ever would be a virtually impossible task, and would still be impossible even if I enlisted the help of some of my fellow anime-loving friends. So I was thinking instead of creating a comprehensive book containing reviews for almost any anime title you could think of, I was thinking of just creating a book containing good anime worth seeing. Kind of like the anime recommendation thread we've got, but in book form with brief descriptions of the show and pretty pictures from it.

Tragedy doesn't sound like a category, jeff. It sounds more like the lasting image of a show rather than the base of it. Psychological also sounds more like a sub-genre, I suppose Thriller is appropriate for it. *cues EVA-l33ts' appearance*

Is there an alternative term to Tournament? Sports/Gaming?

I do like the idea of putting Supernatural with Fantasy/Magical as it sounds much more appropriate.

We could make a separate thread in the anime group to accompany this. Just name it "Anime Reviews" or something and put one anime in each post as we go through them. We could compile everyone's reviews (those who want to write one of course) into each post pertaining to that anime complete with pictures and all that and then hyperlink the show in the recommendation thread to it's individual post in the review thread. I may go ahead and make that thread, unless you want to make it, Walter.

.......................
I'm surprised you don't know, considering Japan puts out so many moe shows these days.

New to anime, so I don't know the terminology your use.

Unsure what Berserk is. Unless it's a NGE reference. :P

Well, the website somewhere up there helped a bit.

NGE is the best anime regardless.
WOOO!

Good. :D

Yup.

Good idea 👍.

Moe is the most common. It's more common than the screaming in Dragon Ball Z!:grumpy:

That's a good idea and could be part of it, but I'm really wanting to produce something like a PDF so it can be downloaded and referenced offline, and also so it can have style. :P

So maybe we could compile a PDF guide from such a thread on a quarterly basis. Or something like that. Go ahead and create the thread. 👍

Too bad I'd suck at the making a review part. I mean considering it's hard for me to explain WHY I like something, yeah. Though I'm better when it comes to explaining why I dislike something.

I could have more stuff on Chu-Bra!!, a show I barely liked than something like Eden of the East I found a masterpiece, and greatly enjoyed.

You're just forcing me to get corrective, aren't you? Btw Onboy, the pictures he's posted are the OBVIOUS examples of "moe", have a read on Wiki and they explain a more thorough and accurate definition. It's not a "thing", it's not a "type" and it's definitely NOT a genre.

Then help me sort it out.

That's neat for showing off and giving a more in-depth impression of a show for someone whose interested and looking for a new show, I worry there's the chance of someone spoiling content while writing a review (which is out of my control so whatever), but me being so pessimistic, I already sense that there's going to be issues of disagreeing with reviews, as some of us tend to be more critical towards things than others....

Yeah I know you want to make your own and that's a great idea but I think this is also something great for this place. We'd have to sort out where people are to post their reviews so the thread doesn't get cluttered (if you're following how I say it should be organized).

Be helpful and provide a link. :P

I did. Some. :)

That's why it would be reviews only. Reviews will be compiled and no bickering. Just a place for new people to look and see if what others said about the show appeals to them. I know this is the internet and that it sounds better in theory but I think we could pull it off. Hell I'll be in charge of it. I think a good thing to do is maybe just PM whoever is in charge of the thread your review and they will add it to the appropriate show/post.

Laim, we can do a pdf if you're committed to updating the PDF with every new review posted. Or you can update on a monthly basis to save you some time.

We can have that review thread in the clubbbbb and you can have the master list pdf booklet posted in the OP.

We should also have a certain review format, like how it's set up. BTW, could we also have reviews on physical releases here? I could deal with that when it comes to like packaging, any possible bad things on a release (Such as cropped footage in Dragon Ball Z on the Season Sets.), extras, audio options, and more?

It's not that I want to produce the PDF on my own... rather, I was thinking we could produce it collectively.

It'd be useful to us, but it'd also be something that we could easily share elsewhere for others to have a cool and helpful reference.

Hmm... Can judge production quality. Plot comparison.. Drama relation to other series.. Advances in plot. Notion of upcoming events.

There has to be some kind of way to keep the workflow of the reviews easier. Gonna suck for some of the other people who want to write reviews.

Asuka can buuuuurrnnn in various degrees of hell. Or just Tokyo-3. I can't tell which is worse.

I don't see why not. A template can be posted in the first "rules" post with the option to also review the physical release.

Well I guess we could all just submit our reviews to you for the PDF. I guess a thread isn't completely necessary though I think it would be kind of cool. Maybe just throw a link to the PDF in the recommendation thread?

You don't have to talk about mai waifu like that just because of our miscommunication. :(

Besides, do you really wish that on such a beautiful creature?

Thank god you guys are getting premos... don't have to make any more dinky 100px avatars.

I have Jeff 'n James to thank for that...and nk4e, but the little moesaur never comes around here anymore.. oh well, it's good to go play instead of gluing your faces to the screen when you're young.

I might just do some 120x120 px avatars to celebrate... of course they won't be outstanding at all to the people outside TGAT though.

I am always lurking.

It's okay, you know that she's my favourite NGE girl :3

..... Because the rest are all annoying. I'd rather traumatized tsundere than doll or immature bitch.
