And now it's retroville, literally. Astro Boy 1963, a 49 year old show is on, and then the ever so hated Gigantor comes out later.

A Rightstuf TV ad? Also grr, looks like Gigantor is going to close out the block, no One Piece or Rurouni Kenshin.:(

Gigantor, hardly anything interesting is happening in this. I can start to see why lots of people hate it, and [adult swim] (humorously) declares it as one of their favorite anime.

This was basically every night when I was first at college, back in 2003. Almost contacted my old room mate about this, just 'cause nostalgia.

Gendodammit this night of [as] being revived makes me wish I had Toonami! :grumpy:

Btw J.C Staff, explosions do not make something automatically exciting.
They must have went to the Michael Bay School of Directing.
Here, let me list this for you.

Didn't met one grandparent, died before I was born.

Dad's mother died when I was 7.
Dad's father died when I was 8.
Mom died when I was 9.
Dad died when I was 22.

Then the friends of mine that died in high school. One girl was eaten by an alligator (not making this up) in Africa over summer break.

Various extended family beyond grand parents.

Oh and I was married. She didn't die though, but that has happened to friends of mine. Oh and watching my dad deal with the death of his parents back to back and then his wife dying was pretty eye-opening in hindsight.

So yes, your life is rough and savage and full of emotion and death.
Damn. I still have 3 grandparents (my granny on my mum's side died when I was about 9) but a friend of mine died of cancer when I was 13.

WOW this thread got busy again!

What else could possibly be in Asuka that would come off as "attractive"?

Do we really need to go over all of this again?

Nice how I'm being lectured on not crying over Clannad After Story Episode 16 when nearly two years ago, I was told by someone to grow up because I had cried from one of my relatives deaths. Guy was like "Grow up the 🤬 up. When my grandparents died, I didn't shed a single tear. The death of a relative is not worth crying over."

That guy sounds like he is an asshole.

Sad I missed out on retro Toonami. :(

Also, they're going to air Blue Submarine No. 6 after YuYu Hakusho. Should I be ashamed I've never heard of it?

Yes because we've mentioned it before.

And still sad I missed out on Toonami. :(

That was a good time, man; the polar opposite of what AFD is supposed to entail, but a good time nonetheless.

What!
Sorry to hear I missed that...
It would have cool to see a little reminder of what afternoons we like before I was an old man. :P

Anyone remember when CN aired a few eps of NGE?
Or how Adult Swim made its name on a little show called Cowboy Bebop?

Im getting too old for this stuff. :P

I just found out earlier this morning (whilst watching the rerun) they showed NGE in '03.

I was all "WTF?" and everything.

They didn't re-air NGE last night.

They did air NGE at one time on [as] yes, but they'll never air it again. The show as I heard bombed hard (I wonder how much money they lost from airing it). Kinda funny considering they gave into fan demand, but the issue is, hardly anyone watched it when they aired it, despite fair promotion and a pretty good Thursday night slot. Everyone had the DVD's that had been out for OVER 9,000 years, and had seen it OVER 9,000 times.

Cartoon Network never aired such kind of shows here, so Toonami in this country sucked big time. However, and amazingly, Canal 22 México aired Evangelion complete, in japanese, with dubbing they did themselves. That was like two years ago, and we all fans of anime were immediately reminded of the good old times. Sadly, it was way late in the night because it was also completely uncut.

When they ran trough Eva two times, they then aired A tree of Palme, then GITS SAC 1st season. Now they are airing Fantastic Children, a series that my brother has recommended me a damn lot, but I don't want to start watching it in the middle of it all... plus, I already "acquired" it. But yes, Canal 22 is like the last bastion for decent anime here in Mexico.

What about Kai do you dislike?

It's closer in relation to the manga, and it rids of all of the unnecessary filler. Which is, by my random approximation, 66% of the entire original series.

One thing I hate about Kai (the dub, anyway) is Gohan's new VA. Totally and completely messed up his SSJ2 ascension, and they messed up the scene itself. Again. Why is he talking to himself? That makes no sense.

First of all, my tastes are a little weird. I hated the padding, but I generally (there were certainly some really bad exceptions) enjoyed the filler that DBZ got. It tended to be funny when the show was normally serious, and entertaining enough that the irrelevance it had on the main story didn't bother me because the tonal shift it gave the show is enjoyable, giving off some of those Dragonball vibes (similarly, that's why the Buu arc is my favorite the show had, in addition to the awesome Vegeta stuff). One of my favorite episodes of the entire show (that one where Piccolo and Goku get driver's licences), and Kai stripping all of it rubbed me the wrong way even if the final result is more cohesive and focused than it was before. And since you can fast forward through the stuff you don't like when you own it all on DVD anyway...

I also absolutely did not like the original score or the one Kai had as much as the American one. I've tried several times to give them a chance, and there are a few tracks from each that I do prefer, but as a whole I just don't.

I think the Buu saga ended the show much better than the Cell saga did, even though there were a lot of similarities between the two in terms of themes. Just seems like a better cap for the whole thing, as it seems to provide more closure for a lot of little stuff without going too far.

Also, I just don't like some of the dub voice choices as much. They are all better acted and directed, I suppose (and the experience under everyone's belt certainly seems to help), but some of them just don't carry as nicely for the characters (Bulma in particular) as the originals did.

In a nutshell.

Double posting in under an hour's time just to post picture wasn't necessary, regardless how you want to justify it.

OK, wow, I really need to start finishing anime before starting new ones. There are about a dozen I need to watch, including the new one I just started, Lamune. Thankfully, spring break starts Thursday so I can catch up on them. Can you guys please try to keep me from starting any new ones for a while?

That's a goofy request considering how infrequently you post here...

I on the other hand just got free'd from a TON of shows. Feelssogood, sonuva:censored:

:P

It does feel good. I'm not going to randomly start new shows now just for the heck of it lol.

Nice OADA, such long legs. Also, could you at least start the new Matsumoto thing so I can have someone to chat about it with?

Those legs are delicious.

I still need to watch episode 3 but I quite enjoyed the first 2. Really digging the style and that sand ship they're on.

ahahaha got damn three eps already? I didn't even know about it. I'll go search now.

Make sure you let me know dude, I'm way lost when it comes to remembering when the new stuff is out.

EDIT: found 2, but my source is still lacking 3. I'll have to wait.
