I don't know how to feel about ep14, my "Ryuuko becomes a Nudist" prediction seems to fallen flat on its face.

Also, 🤬 yeah Aikuro!

If you can call it fan service. I find the animation style makes the idea that anyone might find it to be "servicing" altogether weird (although I know a girl who very much disagrees on that front...).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One thing that I've kept wondering recently is why so many anime keep being so obtuse in terms of being accessible to newcomers. Two anime that really spring to mind in that respect are Haruhi and Steins;Gate, which could so easily be supreme gateway series, but manage to mess up in one fundamental way. (In Haruhi's case it's the way Mikuru is treated, while in Steins;Gate's case it's the fact that the series is set in Akihabara.)

^Well Haruhi WAS my gateway series. I also agree with KLKs animation style being a bit... counter-intuitive(I guess) for fanservice.

While I liked Haruhi overall, and it was one of the earlier series (rather than films) that I watched, I've always felt uncomfortable with Haruhi's actions towards her. I get that the whole point is that Haruhi is god, so she can get away with it, but I still think that the series would be much better (and much more popular) if they hadn't done that.

And I'll agree with that, although most people who would have watched it would have had more of an issue with the whole "Endless Eight" fiasco.

I guess I've been around animation for so long that the art style of KLK doesn't even phase me.

Kill la Kill is less blatantly fan service-y than Panty and Stocking was, but there's still a huge amount of panty shots, gratuitiously bouncing breasts, nudity obscured by convenient lens flare and random dick jokes. Which is not entirely unexpected, it's basically the same people making it.

Gurren Lagann had it to a degree in Yoko-heavy episodes as well, but it was less obvious because so much of the show was spent with guys striking dramatic poses that there wasn't much time left for titty-wiggling.

I dunno, if I want to see Ryuko's boobies I'll go read some doujinshi. There's a point at which too much in the show just gets distracting to me.

Well, my question was directed to anyone who's watching it right now.

Well, clearly there's not a lot of people watching it or you would have gotten responses. My question was more intended to give you an opportunity to explain why people who aren't watching it might want to and get them interested. Then maybe you could get some people to talk about it with.

Psycho-Pass

Last show I've watched in full. Liked it too! Then again, I'm a sucker for that sort of thing, so I may be biased.

I do have to somewhat agree, though it depends on my mood. I don't generally mind fanservice, and in some shows, no amount of fanservice bothers me, but at other times, when I'm in a more serious mood, I do find that it actually does distract me, and instead of following the plot, I may be sitting there thinking... was it really necessary to see her panties just now? It's not because of the actual panty shot, but because I get annoyed that they felt like this scene needed to have a panty shot.

That said, I'm all for fanservice where it belongs! :D

Guess that makes sense. The show's basically about a race of sea people who come in contact with people on land. You follow a group of very close friends (yes, they are adolescent kids) who eventually mingle with the land people & become very attached to them. However there's a number of problems that exist when sea and land people intermingle, which I will not say since they're spoilers. Basically this show is a romance (mostly around the group of friends), but it's a pretty good one. In addition the show has beautiful visuals, esp. the sea people who bear gorgeous aqua-blue eyes (as expected from P.A. Works). The characters act pretty realistically as well. As for sexualization, there's very few of them unless you take a couple of indirect ones, which aren't very distracting anyways.

Yeah. Adult shonen (seinen?), if such a thing exists. I mean, the show does spend half it's run time on fan service shots.
Well it is a late-night anime after all... Think for a second what the target demographic for it is with that in mind.

Aaaaaand I watched Madoka's third movie, Rebellion. My head still aches. I don't even, even if I understood it fully. But it's such a sad movie.

Sketchbook ~full colors~ ran at like midnight. Just because your show is on late doesn't mean you have to fill it with breasts.

Didn't and probably will not bother with space dandy. Watched episode 1, no more needed. I have lost NEARLY all respect for the man... He cashed in on a couple of incredible works and started to act like his name was McDonald's.

Your great success will not buy you automatic affection from me Watanabe.

That's cool. And it's something I can make myself.

Oh yeah. It's pretty depressing if you put yourself in the shoes of the protagonist.
