Ok, guess it's not quite as likeable as Chunnibyou, then. Also, I was kinda expecting you to answer my question about that Miyu gril. But nevertheless, I now know that she comes from a Fate spin-off show, that is sort of a Magical Girl parody.

Fate Kaleid is worth the watch. I liked it, at least.

Jokes aside, it sounds interesting enough, but I'm afraid I'll miss most of the funny/interesting Fate-related stuff due to my lack of knowledge about the Fate world. Most of what I know come from the videogames.

With NGE , is the dub or the sub better? The dub aired here but I don't remember much of it.

NGE is much better in Japanese. The American dub is hammy, whiny, and generally over the top and tends to leave people with a negative impression of the show.

Most anime are better in Japanese. The only high profile examples of anime that work noticeably better in English I can think of are Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Black Lagoon, Gurren Lagann and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time for some reason. Maybe there are other examples, but in the end anime dubbing in English is far more of a niche thing than anime dubbing in Japanese is, so the cream of English voice actors and recording engineers and what have you often wind up in local productions.

Plenty of English anime dubs are perfectly acceptable, even if they're not as good as the original Japanese dubs. Neon Genesis Evangelion is not one of those shows.

Black Lagoon English dub is miles better than Japanese, as Roger explained. Highly recommended.

You don't have to speak Japanese to be able to tell that the acting in NGE's Japanese dub is much better than in the English. You just have to hear the comparatively subdued Japanese dub next to the constant high pitched screaming in the American dub.



This gets tiresome fast. Note that many of those who worked on NGE's English dub went on to work on Martian Successor Nadesico's English dub, which worked fine because that style suited that anime. Context is important.

It's always better (from an English speakers perspective) if an anime has a good English dub, and in many cases the Japanese is preferable not because of its own quality but the lack of quality in the English. This is no excuse for bad English dubs, however, and the only excuses for not reading subtitles in one's own language are dyslexia or poor eyesight.

All I really know is that there are people such as Saber and such, and that there's magic involved. Some fighting happens, and the plot is deep(ish) and rich in mythology. And yes, I am not a Fate specialist, in case you can't tell.

You more or less hit the nail on the head; very few animes actually work with a dub that's not Japanese. Even if the dub has a lot of effort put in it, most of time it'll lose some of the character that the Japanese dubs have. Of course, not all dubs are bad (an example of bad dubbing would Cartoon Network's dub of Gundam Wing, rich in "IT'S A GUNDAAAAM!"-related phrases), but finding an actual good dub is the anime equivalent of finding a neddle in a haystack. The one English dub I heard that wasn't too bad was Gunsmith Cats' own dub; most voices aren't over the top (even Natasha's Russian accent isn't too terrible to hear), and most of the lines are more or less decent.

Still, if you have the choice of local language dubs and Japanese subtitles, you're going to be better off with the Japanese side of things, to be honest.

Coming from someone who watched Space Brothers this show hit home for me. No qualms at all for Planetes, in all honesty. Space is a fascinating thing, and Planetes really brought it out with real-life references and with pretty daunting messages.

Just finished up Railgun. What an awesome way to wrap up the series - nothing better than bringing everyone together for one flat out assault. Reminded me a lot of the wrap up for the first series (that also being said, the Big Spider arc in general was fantastic). Great great OST as well, I'll have to throw some in here at some stage.

I'm a wee bit sad that it's all finished now though. At least it was satisfying unlike the terrible excuse Wangan Midnight and Initial D had for endings, though.

It ended up embellishing that that Mutta was now a proud backup instead to heading to space. Ish wasn't completed. For 99 episodes, I was lead into believing Mutta and Hibito were going to go to space together, Mutta would be the first Japanese to land on Mars, build the Sharon telescope, and develop his relationship further with Serika.

Basically, it was all basic expectations I thought they would've played out in the looooong series, but none of it happened. If that is a way of telling that circumstances can change, then I think they could've executed it like they did with Sharon and Hibito's situations instead of telling us how happy Nanba is to be confirmed to go to the moon.... after being a well-trained backup crew member for his other astronaut buddies to go first.

If that wasn't it, I'd be interested in hearing about your reason(s).
