Nice, Run To The Hills is the only song by them I ever hear on the radio. Which is of course their most played I would say.

Run to the Hills, Number of the Beast and The Trooper. Extremely rare. They do a hair metal segment that gets 2 Minutes to Midnight every so often.

Well it was the Trooper and Flight of Icarus. I wasn't too surprised at the Trooper, but Icarus was awesome.

I like Icarus live better. Sounds better when its played faster, same as Die With Your Boots On

I know what you mean about Icarus, but I've yet to hear Die With Your Boots On faster. Personally, I like Can I Play With Madness with a little more speed added in. Gives it some extra energy 👍

Speaking of radio. The Rock 1000 finished on Friday. The good news, Iron Maiden on average has moved up this year. Though their highest placing was lower this year.

#908: Aces High (new to the countdown this year)
#669: Running Free (792nd last year)
#570: The Evil that Men do (268 last year :banghead:)
#431: 2 Minutes to Midnight (667 last year 👍)
#358: Hallowed be Thy Name (373 last year... Should be way higher)
#168: Wasted Years (445 last year)
#153: Fear of the Dark (451 last year)
#132: The Trooper (172 last year)
#113: Can I play with Madness (185 last year)
#100: Number of the Beast (053 last year :grumpy:)
#066: Run to the Hills (133 last year 👍)

And because I can say this. #222: Silent Lucidity - Queensrÿche (520 last year)

Do you think that there is any particular reason that Maiden is overall better represented this year for that? Also, looking at the history of #1 songs for the contest(?), voters seem to really like their Metallica.

Yeah, New Zealand is full of typical metal heads. The ones that just listen to music for heavy riffs and well known played to death metal songs. NZ also likes Foo Fighters, who get the most appearances in the countdown every year. And usually songs in the top 10.

Metal is back on the rise...

Well I'd be worried if there wasn't any metal in the Rock 1000.

Have you guys heard about Steve Harris' solo album which comes out in a few days... I really can't wait to listen to it.

Any idea what sort of genre it is? I'll be buying it if it's anything like Primal Rock Rebellion.

I'm not really sure, but it's most definitely different to Maiden. I mean, if he was going to make a solo album, he would never just write stuff the same as he would with Maiden. It would be pointless. But because it's Steve Harris, I bet it will be excellent.

From what I've heard, not great. But I've yet to listen to it so I'll pass judgement.

Many Maiden fans aren't liking it, but only because it doesn't sound like Iron Maiden. I reckon it's a great album! Just listen to some of the songs, in the harder rockier songs the vocals don't quite fit, but most of the time but Richard Taylor's voice creates a nice edge to the music. I reckon it's good work. 👍

I'm going to have to give it a listen. What should I expect?

I've been getting into a lot of older thrash again like Kreator and Helloween etc because I was getting tired of everything else XD. Man I missed those songs XD

Personally, I think you should expect it to be not too metal-y if that makes sense. It's certainly not a bad album, and the second half is the stronger half IMO, but it's not really my cup of tea if I'm honest.

I'm not quite sure who I'd compare it to (big help, I know :P), but it's certainly hard rock. The playing is good, but the singing doesn't really fit the playing. The singer almost sounds like he's restraining himself part of the time to me. Perhaps I'm just crazy, though. It's worth a listen at least.

Back on topic, I found a DVD with a bunch of Maiden videos on it (Visions of the Beast) and they really aren't the type to make videos aside from them playing it seems, not that I really watch videos anyway. There are certainly worse things to do than watch a bunch of Maiden on a Sunday night :)

Agreed with Kardis. Though in some songs the singing really does shine a lot more, it's quite inconsistent. I'd recommend listening to the closing track of the album. I certainly wouldn't call the album metal.

Found this video of Paul Di'Anno, what a world class dick!

Please, feel free to tell me what he is actually saying, because quite frankly, my sound doesn't and won't work until I think after Christmas when I get my new PC.

The guy in the audience is shouting "Bruce Dickinson! Sing Bruce Dickinson!" and Di'Anno retaliates by saying that he "Can't sing 🤬 Opera!!!!" and telling the guy in the crowd to "**** off, go home and listen to Maiden's records!". Furthermore, he claims that he wrote Running Free and then he offers the guy in the audience a fight!

Oh wow, that's pretty rude... Shows why he couldn't stay in Maiden. Imagine what Maiden would be if he was still there? :scared:

^^If he stayed, they would have split after Killers. I think hes mad he got thrown out and when Bruce joined, Maiden went big.
