Bugs, bugs, bugs everywhere!
I was so tired of being divebombed out of the track, of losing championships because the game sees back markers as podium finishers, and losing my setups that I thought: 'ok, lets practice and hot lapping some cars for a while'. Then the game crashes my PS4.
After that, I deleted the game and downloaded it again to see if things improve because I'm a patient guy and I want to believe in pCARS again. But..
Nope.
I like the game, like the feel of it, the driving is awesome, but all the rest is unfinished, to put it lightly. I like pCARS, really do hope it succeed in the future, but for now, I'm making space on my hard drive to Destiny's DLC.
The game has great potential, but it's broken beyond belief. I would be deeply ashamed of releasing this stuff to consumers. Since GT5, I see Poliphony Digital as a sitcom, a place where common sense is the last resouce, something that is only tried when every other option had been deployed and failed miserably. SMS looks like a place where common sense is a non-existent concept, something which you see easily on some design decisions, like the lack of input give to players (what is the point of simulating wheater and the impact of that on performance if this information is closed to the eyes of the console player?). The UI is rough, there are lots of graphical options (which is a good thing), but you can't set up gamma configurations and the result is that some weather conditions on some tracks makes an invisible asphalt at noon. It's just the kind of thing that I spent the last years making fun of PD design decisions and overall behaviour and now I see in other developer. Developing a sensible racing game must be very, very, very hard indeed.
WMD members will jump on me, patronising and make excuses, but the thing is: any SMS developer would have stumbled on those ridiculous bugs if they had taken the time to, you know, try the game before release. In half an hour, I was already confronted by Thrustmaster T500RS lockup, cars exploding on track, like some guy posted few pages back, and losing setups. Took me two days to suffer from major breaking game bugs that you don't need any effort to reproduce and it makes me wonder what kind of QA is put into those games and if the console versions where really tested prior the release.
