19 Hours into the Le Mans 24 Hour race I'm leading the race by about half a minute over the second placed car. I exited the pitlane and the car shot off to the left (and kind of backwards) which immediately disqualified me even though I had turned penalties off before the race just to be safe.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy this game most of the time but it's obvious that this game was made for PC and then bodged for consoles as a cash cow.

Still trying to isolate what is causing the slow down <> speed up glitch on some pcs. Since my brother is seeing it and I am not we have been trying to determine what is different and either reproduce it on my system or stop it from happening on his. Thus far we have found about 100 things that it is not but yet to find the culprit. I even tried hooking up my other wheel [Turbo S] and installing the 756 FW on it that he is using and still no issues.

I think he is now in the process of re-installing Windows to see if that corrects the issue. Will report back if we find it.

I don't think this was the case because it was developed since the beginning with consoles versions in mind.

What I think it's the case is that they simply didn't have the resources to finish the game on time, hence the delays. And, eventually, they hit a point of no return: they simply couldn't afford delay it again and extend the developing time and costs.

The result is that SMS chose to release an unfinished game to us test it.

If you've ever been in the software testing world, and I'm the testing manager for a big NZ company, then you would know that no software ships bug free. A general rule is that there should be no 'known' critical bugs and as few as possible 'high' bugs. If you were to stay in testing phase until every 'known' bug was addressed, you'd probably never release any software.

I was losing during UK Road Cup so I decided to leave the game, however after exiting final leaderboard popped-up saying that I won the race even though I ended up last. After this, I won whole invitational event.

Me too :banghead:

But the game was delayed when it was "99% ready" and that's what I think most people are disappointed about. We were told it was 99% ready and just needed "polishing up".

That statement from SMS had proven to be untruthful because some of the bugs would not have been in the final release if all it needed was a good shine.

I don't think anyone expected the game to be completely bug free, but there's no way things like AI winning wet races on dry tyres, or Ford Escorts flying into orbit wherever someone gives them a mean stare should have ever gotten past the QA testers.

Again, I love the game, it's fantastic, I don't regret buying it for a second, but it's not in the state we were lead to believe it was in after the last delay and before release date.

It's not OK for companies to release unfinished products and it's not OK for people to say "well that's just how it is".

They could have released the game including the seasonpass for the first buyers as a compensation. They knew what they where releasing and it's sad to see such an amount of problems. The buyers are really used as testers and even though it will improve the game due all the help/feedback SMS gets from the early players, I think those buyers/players deserve something their way.

Also, it seems that even after saving a custom HUD layout on track, it doesn't actually save, it keeps reverting back to the original after leaving a session and starting another.

We are all WMD members without even signing up, or getting rewarded for it.

I know this will sound douchy, but for a crowd funded game where gamers actually test every build, how the heck did it release with this number of bugs? didn't anyone notice these?

I'm not saying I am not disappointed with the number of bugs, but I have at least really enjoyed playing it even in it's current state. I've played 38 hours in just over a week, that's not bad for £38 considering I have only done a single career race so far. I used to spend more than £1 an hour to drive arcade (I mean actual slot machine video games in arcades) driving games before we had home computers.

For the most part you are correct, but I wouldn't want chemical plant planning software or transport/ flight control systems to be developed to the same standards. Then again I don't want to wait 10 years and pay £40,000 for my driving sim designed using formal methods & mathematical proofs.

 @mr_serious. You are correct, all software projects have a risk assessment to ensure it is tested correctly. Software that has life threatening consequences will have a much more rigorous testing effort.

I was responding to posts like 'How was this tested? Why wasn't this bug discovered?"
Most probably it was discovered, and is on a backlog list to be addressed at some point.

90% of non-console specific bugs have been discovered and reported, some of them were introduced in the final week(s) of development. Unfortunate SMS just kind of ran out of time.

I dunno how it's going to be now, but before they started prepping for release we'd have a lot of the bugs squashed very quickly. Now I think they will have to take a while to make sure no new bugs get introduced with a fix, so rate of fixes will be a lot slower.

Anyway, just wanted to shine some light for people who are wondering how we could have missed the bugs. We didn't, for the most part.

Ok I'm experiencing a weird bug on the pc version. I know it's not a question of power as I have a card more than capable of running it (R9 270X), but when I click my garage it freezes for a brief second and closes the game and goes back to the desktop. I have yet to figure out what is causing this and it's bugging me. Someone please help.

Don't know if this was mentioned. Today I experienced a new bug when playing online. Right after the loading screen my wheel tends to move to the left, and stay at about 90 degree position for no reason. I have to unplug the t300 from the usb and plug it back in. It then works properly after that. Unfortunately I've had to do this every time I get into the gameplay. Playing on PS4.

you're not alone and it doesn't only happen online. there's also one where the wheel starts uncontrollably moving left and right until it's turned off. plus the white line bug (as seen in the telemetry) where it feels like the wheel is clipping. hopefully all the different wheel bugs will be fixed soon.

I suppose it could be related to your graphics settings or possibly a custom livery if you have added any. The graphics settings can be reset by removing the xml file that is in the project cars folder under my documents if you want to try that.

I will try it and reply, I don't have custom liveries though so I'm hoping its the graphics settings

OK update on my bug. HBR-Roadhog your idea did fix it

This might have been covered already, but I recently drove the Pagani Huayra invitational at Monza and noticed that the flaps on the cars didn't animate properly. They would go up when braking into the first corner on all the AI cars and just stay in the extended position for the rest of the race. The flaps on the car I was driving didn't seem to be animated either, as i didn't notice the ones on the bonnet extend during braking.

I'm playing on a PS4 btw.

Anyway, just wanted to shine some light for people who are wondering how we could have missed the bugs. We didn't, for the most part.

Then why did SMS say the game was 99.9% finished and just needed a little polishing before the release?? This is not what I expected from a 99.9%, lightly polished, game :-(

Do you know anyone who's going to say "our game's got a bunch of bugs, please don't buy it"? I'm sorry your expectations were not met, hopefully they will be in the end.

This statement is for PC version only and not for console ? My mate has PS4 version and now he's not playing it as he had lots of issues with the game, many that are already posted here :( I couldn't play on his PS4 too when I visited his house, as he said he won't risk it as he was pretty paranoid when his PS4 crashing often when playing pcars. He's the type of typical console game players, he didn't care to go through forums to post his issues or anything as he got the game from his wife as present ( my idea ), now he just move on to another game :( When patches arrive in PS4 and actually works to give much less bugs and issues like crashes, I will have to get my mate to play it again. So I'm counting on you guys when the patches arrive :)

I'm baffled though, how can console testers missed a lot of the issues, my mate got his first problem within an hour of playing ( game crashed during the race ) :/ 20 play tester with wheels ( Thrustmaster, Fanatec ) and console controllers playing the Xbone and PS4 Pcars for a week, 8 hours a day both offline career, and online MP, with a set of car/track list to try would have found most of the issues posted here, I'm fairly certain. Did SMS tested online MP of Xbone and PS4 ? How exactly was testing done on console ? SMS outsourced console testers or buy maybe 10 console each ( Xbone & PS4 ) and tested inhouse ( much easier I think ) ?

The devs would have quite a few PS4 and Xbone console for sure as they need to test each build :)

I remember mentioning that particular statement from SMS and how it was bound to come back and bite them in the ass sooner or later. Although it is/was clearly purely PR speak, they still did themselves a huge disservice knowing they would never meet that target - not to mention dissapointing many. You could see it coming from a mile away.

I bought a PS4 to play the game, got it along with Drive Club and I'm not touching on-line or career mode in Project Cars till things are better sorted. I feel for people that perhaps went out and bought a console and perhaps a wheel too for this title due to their excitement and it having a list of wheels listed prior to the game as supported. Yet the actual fact is at release even this aspect of wheels working properly with the game has not been sufficiently implemented.

It's so frustrating, waiting 3 years following this game and it releasing how it has with the fix later attitude that more and more developers are it seems falling into.

For me it tarnishes such developers in their professionalism, not just their cosy forum/member relationship but what seems a lack of attention to customer satisfaction.

Of course the business and contractual aspects of it all, the making money part of it with the pressures likely involved with a games publisher in this case Bandai/Namco are probably factors also.

So are they also to blame? Yet its not the publishers job to ensure the game meets "approved playtesting" what they focus on is release windows and generated sales.

Bandai/Namco alone have a very busy schedule with Project Cars / Witcher 3 / F1 2015 to name just a few games for early summer. For me it seems WMD/SMS got greedy not so much going for several platforms developed together but all at the same time for release, obviously the pressure in this spreading the development team too thin.

Driveclub is another example of poor in-game testing/development. Yet I hope an example of how things CAN be fixed.
Yet the issue also seems evident with several PC/Console multiformat releases in them not being platform specific can create more issues or short comings and needing post release patches...

I applaud Project Cars for bringing "PC Sim" type game to the console formats, but they certainly have done so with a barrage of issues console gamers do not appreciate or will accept as much as PC owners. In particular the wheel/controller plug n play aspect.

Think this will do my own personal whining on the game but hope others share similar views...
More needs done by Sony/Microsoft to tighten the "finished quality" games release in. To ensure things don't continue in this "patch later" direction. Instead release with more satisfactorily testing prior to going gold.

Does such not also tarnish the very platform the game releases on?

Nobody, but they should not have used the phrase "99% ready". I don't even think the PC version was "99% ready", so now you see why people might be dubious about any sort of fixes coming soon. Saying the game is "99% ready" then it being full of bugs lost SMS a lot of credibility.

Agree completely, I'd love to know exactly how many console testers there were, what they were testing for and what experience they had previously with racing/sim racing games. Compatibility of peripherals definitely should have been tested, if not, why not?
